Woodturning - In this video I use some curly Ironwood to make this awesome hollow form. I'm also using one of the new hyper shifts from Designer Epoxy and love the results. Thanks for watching!

I've been turned off of epoxy by some people who seem to be using it as a substitute for material and imagination. You are using it as an enhancement, emphasizing the wood rather than the additives. Very tastefully done! And I personally think it has the perfect amount of being. Good job!

Wood turnings are nearly eternal examples of skill and beauty. Epoxy isn't eternal, though it will last a while before becoming scratched, brittle, and cloudy.

No! The pigment is strong enough! Love it not "blinged-up". I think the resin and the wood look like a unity, like it is one material, not two put together--just enough contrast but not shouting out contrast. Balanced, rich, harmonious, elegant, gorgeous. This will get more beautiful to the eye every day.

Hi Jim , Yes that’s a BEAUTY! You asked if the viewers have wood that might be suitable for Unique Turnings! I have a Lilac Root about 12”x12” round maybe! It’s been outside for several years, we use it to hold open the back gate! Quite heavy, Lilac is tough wood! It’s yours if you’d like! I sent you Myrtle Wood a few years ago!

Wow, Jim! This is going in my top 10, for sure! Definitely top 5 as far as hollow forms! As soon as you cut the wood in half, I was silently chanting "hollow form, hollow form, hollow form! It's been a while since he's done one!". The movement in it is truly artistic. It's moodier than you usually do your pieces, but I LOVE it. The color of the Epoxy Resin hypershift is beautiful! I can appreciate a bit of transparency, so at least on this side of the camera it compliments the wood perfectly. The wood has so much character, I love that it's center focus! See you next week, Jim! We'll get to 130k. I can feel it!!

Hi Jim, it turned out beautiful. I looked up the iron wood tree. The buds are like the colour of shift. And the flowers in the tree are yellow . The common name for tree is Hop-Hornbeam comes from the fliwers of the Ironwood, which resemble clusters of hops. It a beautiful tree. The light through the pot is so pretty. The colour you picked pays respect to the tree, I think anyway. The wood is so detailed now the tree will live on another way. Great job as always. Have a great weekend. Take care.

I think you picked the perfect Hypershift blend from Designer Epoxy for this one, Jim! It compliments the wood nicely, but I think I'll have to agree that it really is the wood that made this piece shine! She's gorgeous, elegant, and perfect!

That piece is so beautiful. The shape, the color and the wood itself. You have achieved a pinnacle. There are some Ironwoods on Catalina island in California, but they are on Conservancy land. You can probably source some from them, if there are any that have died or are fallen. They have a team of botanists at the Nursery. Its worth a try. They also have Moutain Mahogany. They are small trees, but you can work with anything. Hoping the house sells soon. ❤️ Designer Epoxy.

What a beautiful hollow form!! I love the grain of the ironwood. Gorgeous wood. I am a huge fan of turning the natural edges to face each other. The epoxy accentuates the wood rather than being a distraction. Awesome work, Jim, as usual. Cheers!! Designer Epoxy

Another stunning piece, the wood is awesome and I love the shape. The resin is also great but I agree with you that a little more hypershift would have made it perfect. I look forward to your videos each week, sitting on my couch with a coffee and watching you create such lovely items, thank you.

Jim: nice choice of epoxy for the project. The colour blends in with the grain. Makes the project sort of look like an alien. I have turned ironwood and found that it was easy to work with. Good to see that you got a few buckets. They most likely go through a few hundred a summer. Take care and enjoy.
