Woodturning - In this video I use the fridge method to achieve color separation when combining two colors of epoxy and using some banksia pods from Australia. The banksia pods give a dragon skin look to the piece so that's where the title comes from. Please like and share with your friends, thanks!

My Dad made a lot of items out of Banksia. He said you did an amazing job, and I agree 100%. You have inspired him to pull his tools out and do some more work even though he is in his 90s and has trouble walking. Dad made his own tools out of old files.

The seeds are removed in nature, by a cool burn bushfire - the smoking helps the pods open & the seeds fall easily then & propagation is quite easy. They prefer a black sand seaside aspect, though grow coastal in well drained sandy soils. High nectar producing for bees & birds. The purple was the greatest choice for contrast with colour of the pods & the green was wasted - just not necessary - really lovely item - beautiful! Think about some grasstree timber - it's special too.

I have noticed in other wood turning videos I catch, they duct tape the piece where the steady rest wheels rest. That might prevent your piece from heating up, or at least get rid of the wheel mark. Or it's just needing one more day to cure because you used the fridge. Successful experiment, beautifully finished 💖

I’m an Aussie and yes Banksia grows everywhere here The flowers are stunning and honey for birds. 173 varieties and named after Sir Joseph Banks. I use them as Christmas tree decorations Absolutely stunning piece of art. It would look amazing in orange too. Well done ❤️

Ah, who needs green? I wasn’t so keen on last week’s piece, but this was spectacular! The shape of the bowl, the crazy shape and texture of the pods, the shimmer in the epoxy, and the way the two colours of the pods and the purple play off each other just blew my mind. This is far and away my favourite ever of your pieces. I watched the beauty shots over and over. Jim, you a a turning maven! ❤❤❤

Those banksia pods sure do look cool in your piece. If most people were walking through the woods and see these things laying on the ground, they would never guess how you could use them to make such a beautiful piece. Any yet . . . you can . . . and you did!!! I love the color. Great bowel. You are very talented. God Bless!!!

Yes, a banksia pod pepper mill is now necessary! The size and cylindrical shape of the pod is going to work perfectly as a pepper mill! And with that silver colour you didn’t use this time. I look forward to the video, Mr. Jim.

I refuse to use the same words, like amazing or beautiful, each week. This piece is impressive. Eventually I run out of words. You are such a great artist. It is not by chance that every week you come up with something so wonderful. Your hard work really pays off. These pots don’t look so hard, but based on your video, wow. I wonder why a plant would waste all this energy to create such a hard, temporary structure. Maybe just because it can, haha. I love your teachings. It‘s always a pleasure listening to you. It looks so easy what you’re doing. And I know it will take a lot of exercise and patience. Also, I do like thick walls.

I know many people like the multi-color effect, but I personally think that this piece is absolutely perfect with the purple standing alone. I am also someone who loves the pearl effect, though. Beautiful work, Jim, sorry you had a rough go at hollowing it out.

LOVE this beautiful project!! Reminds me of our beaded dragon, Skylar, we used to have, so you weren't way off in saying dragon, etc. 😊 I'm trying to catch up with your videos today as I do some of my crafting today. I have no clue as to what those cone-like things are, but the final project was amazing! Designer Epoxy
