I have the surge I have the pressure code and no eml. I must say though it is intermittent, doesn't do it every time you floor it, 50% maybe but it only happens on full send accel

It's like watching open heart surgery! The complexity of these things is fascinating, and if anything it's a wonder there aren't more common issues, gives you respect for the engineering involved and also how important a specialist is when it comes to cars like this. Also, the W211 is one of my favourite cars, from a time where comfort was king. Big luxury barge of a car :) Was in Cyprus recently and 90% of all the Taxis there are W211. That was very interesting. And you're the first garage I've seen that uses a procedure manual built from experience with the parts included to make sure nothing is missed from the job. It must make a great training tool also. I'm surprised more garages don't use this. 11k views from 7k+ subscribers means there's a lot of sharing and recommending being done. 2 other common issues I have found over the years is the PCV on the back left head faiils which allows the oil to travel down the pipe and into the "Y" pipe and then out of the large orange seal. The turbo ends up being changed thinking it's leaking oil when infact it's the PCV thats failed instead. The other one is the large green O ring in the inter cooler pipe at the top of the engine. It's either missing or not giving a proper seal.

This is one of the best engines Mercedes made after 2000 . I've had it in many vehicles including jeeps . As long as you keep it up with preventive maintenance and change the oil every 8000 km it runs and runs and runs ... as long as you're not scared to do some stuff yourself , it's not really expensive . Love it , recomend , 5 stars , 10 out of 10 .

@@MoesKeckeEcke Because he's parroting internet stories. The v6 is more sensitive to bad maintenance compared to the older i6, that's true, but that's about it. It's only issues are with the oil cooler and the flaps getting stuck, but the flaps can be cancelled with a resistor and the oil cooler can be kept an eye on. I've seen fleets of sprinters with this engine, all around 650-800k km and still running. Some oil leak here and there, but still ran strong. 1 went over 1 mil km before being finally retired, but not because the engine was bad, but because the truck bed and inside the cabin was getting really worn out.

Sorry but I had an E320 Bluetec with the 642 engine and it was dreadful. In the span of one year: New swirl motor (twice) Oil cooler seal (twice because the dealer screwed up the installation) New turbocharger Three new fuel injectors New motor mounts New intake manifold Numerous oil leaks. Car was serviced at the dealership at the correct service intervals. They never did fix the real problem. Car ran fine until you needed to accelerate to get onto the interstate and the car would go into “limp home”. Twice I almost got killed by a semi truck. Best engine? Nope!

The other " while your there" job to do is replace the O ring on the EGR cooler plumbing where it pushes into the inlet manifold. (7.10)The other end of the cooler from the flange. I had to do this whole job because that O ring failed and leaked coolant at a huge rate. Within a couple of days of first seeing a leak under the car the engine wouldn`t hold any coolant. This was an OM642 in a Jeep with only 140k on the clock. Good excuse to do the Oil cooler seals before they leaked so no big mess in the engine valley to clean up.

An oil catch can circuit between CCV & turbo inlet would reduce substantially amount of oil that cascades down into valley from batwing turbo inlet seal. In my opinion, that is true source of most car om642's oil leaks. It soaks swirl flap motor, splashes all over turbo pedestal & then pools around oil cooler before draining through that weep hole in valley near bell housing. These issues don't really exist on 642s from Sprinters because they have a much better air intake system & larger oil pan that can accept 5 more quarts of oil. Every time I see another om642 oil leak video, I thank my lucky stars that I still have an om648 w211 on the road.

I have all the faults you’ve covered on my ml320, I had the oil cooler done a year and a half ago, at over a £1000 , but it would appear that my mechanic stitched me up it is now leaking water and a bit of oil not as much oil as before, so it’s lying in my driveway now doing nothing , being a pensioner I can’t afford to get it done again, I also had a new turbo fitted 4 years ago and the car started the kangaroo bit when I accelerated hard, but again couldn’t get anyone to diagnose the problem at the time, 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ but thanks for your video very informative cheers 🙏👍👍👍

Excellent work, preventive maintenance is the cheap way to maintain a good car, good to see. Isn’t it criminal that Mercedes and others shout about sustainability and how they work for recycling parts, yet don’t make a simple connecting rod for the inlet, throwing the whole manifold away so wasteful!!! Should be an EU law against it, my 2013 C class coupe front callipers have a Mercedes name plate that covers the gap on side of calliper so you don’t see pads, it’s fixed by two dowels, one fell out, Mercedes said I would have to buy a new calliper to get it 😱😡just doesn’t make sense, and so wasteful !!!

This vid gave me flashbacks of when I did the cooler seals on my R class. It was fortunate that I did it during furlough as it took me a couple of weeks (a lot of that was waiting for parts though). I found the previous owner had done the resistor mod to delete the swirl flap motor. I took the opportunity to reinstate the flaps with a new motor and an aluminium rod kit. The previous owner had also fitted a chineseium actuator to the turbo but I ordered a genuine refurbed one from the states. One little mod I added was I added a shroud made from an old drinks can to cover the swirl flap motor as even though I was replacing the turbo inlet seal, I have only ever known them to leak. The shroud is shaped to guide any oil that drips down behind the flap motor and into the V. I'd be curious to know if you have a definite fix for the red seal leaking?

Hi Amazing tutorial, I had exactly the same problem with oil cooler seals, and also the same wear in the inlet manifold swirl flap arm. It was all fixed by a very competent local mechanic but I took it to Austria last year and the Turbo would cut out and would always reset when ignition switched off/on. I still haven't got to the bottom of this problem and wondered if you have any ideas! I was thinking maybe an Actuator or Map sensor but It's really just a guess. I have had the codes cleared and the only code I have now is 2783, which is friction of torque converter lockup clutch is too high. When I got home from Austria the following codes were stored. 2783 friction power of torque converter lock up clutch is too high. 0741 actuation of torque converter lockup clutch is not possible 129700 Dpf filter is defective (although soot/Ash lever zero) 14Ac00 Component B19/11 temp sensor upstream of turbocharger has internal fault 15FD00 Lower limit value of component B28/8 Dpf differential pressure sensor has not been reached. Many thanks in advance, any info would be greatly appreciated.

Good Day, I am from RSA and do find a jerky ride on a random base. I suspect a turbo problem as you explained. No fault code,no white smoke, jerky ride once-off with hot engine and not again until engine is switched off, adblue deactivated and start and idle, smooth. 2014 ML 350 om 642 with 100 000 km. Any advise?

How much to have this/these jobs done,I think my cls 320 cdi has these issues (does the kangaroo) and loses power like the turbo isn’t boosting

Hi, I have a CLK 320 CDI and when accelerating it gave me the same jerk. Then driving along a slightly uphill road the car didn't go beyond 100 kilometers per hour, I thought it was the turbo actuator and I had to downshift with paddles on the steering wheel. A few months earlier between February and April I always found oil stains on the ground but the Mercedes workshop told me that it wasn't the oil exchanger but that the oil was coming out of the turbo and seeping from the plastic manifold in front of the turbo which I then changed. While for the tugging the workshop told me that it could be the exhaust manifolds, where it carries a double chamber and from here small pieces come off and hit the turbine wheel, but in any case they say that my turbine is still good, why did you change the turbine? Don't you have problems with the exhaust manifolds? I have to have the exhaust manifolds changed in September.

I Had the kangarooing on my Clk 320cdi a few years ago. I took it to a Merc dealer trained specialist near me in Sheffield who said the gearbox needs a service and other gearbox stuff. I did say i suspected boost issues. A lot of money and a few days later it’s back kangarooing and The specialist wouldn’t recheck the car he claimed it wasn’t his work. Watching the SPR channel, Just shows the ‘’specialist’’ I used had zero clue and wasn’t special at all.

the manifold actuators wear out because the flaps get stuck with carbon residue. Replacing the actuators by metal type is not recommended, as they will not wear, but break the flaps which will be sucked into the engine causing capital damage.

Thanks for this awesome video with tons of valuable info, even the parts list! Question: Looks like you got a new turbo? So the stuttering was caused by a faulty turbo or was it the faulty/worn flaps? I do have that stutter every now and then, but only when I floor it. Normal acceleration doesn't produce that issue. Don't want to buy a new turbo if it's probabaly only the flaps. I'd come to you but living in New Zealand it's a bit of a challenge 🙂 (2007 CLS 320 Cdi, 220,000km) And yes, I have an oil cooler leak as well...

Hi Sam! I have a 2011 W212 E350cdi,with the OM642 engine. I had these jobs done(oil and turbo) and the car works amazing. My question is,the car has now 191.000 miles, should i worry about the distribution chain? When the chain gets replaced or it doesn't need to? Also, how often does that oil cooler job gets done? Amazing videos, keep up the good work ,only a few people will do what you do,taking care of the car and the owner's poket👍 👏

If the chain starts to stretch you will get a rattle on start up lasting around 3 seconds. There isn’t an interval the chain but when it rattles that it letting you know It wants a new one. Oil cooler hasn’t really got a pattern. I’ve seen it happen at low miles and also not leak until high miles.

While you are in the "Valley of Death" the injector seals can be done. The seals from the Honda 2.2 diesel are the same size but do a better job than the Mercedes ones as they are slightly softer and seal better .
