Spray Roses are a favorite go-to for boutonnieres, corsages, bouquets, and any other floral arrangement! Spray roses come with 3-6 buds PER stem and offer a wonderful size of bloom to nestle into the greenery. Spray roses are hardy, versatile, and predictable all season.
Special care notes for spray roses:
Give them a fresh cut and place in fresh, clean water with all leaves removed below the water line. Be sure to remove any guard petals!

Wow your videos are so unbelievably helpful! I am getting married in November and am doing my own flowers, have you got any ideas for a white bouquet for flowers available in the winter?
@FlowerMoxie

Thank you so much! The possibilities are endless for a white winter bouquet! You could always add sprigs of spruce, brunia berries, or Dusty Miller to lock in a more winter vibe. For the flowers, are you wanting a more organic, asymmetrical look or a more rounded vibe??

Hello thank you for all the information! Quick question some of my spray roses won't open. I am not a professional florist but I do sell flowers and I notice I have that problem alot.

Yup, I feel you, sometimes it be that way. It boils down to the specific breed of spray rose.....some blow out and open, and some will always stay a closed bud. I really love Majolikas because they are good about blowing out, and the variety I have in my hard is a garden spray rose variety that can be hard to get sometimes. I believe it's Bubbles or Peach Parosal. They're not grown in the same way standard roses are so it's harder to get specific varieties. Maybe ask your supplier about garden spray varieties or go with a Majolika. I hope that helps! XOXOX

What should we do if we want the spray roses to stay closed like small buds for a bouquet.

Some varieties never blow out, though most eventually will. To keep any flower closed, keep it in the cooler or fridge. XXX, Amy

How do spray roses do in the heat/sun? I'm considering using them to line the aisle using floral tubes stuck in the ground at a spring outdoor ceremony (likely ~70-80F). However, they will need to be set up in the morning for a 4pm ceremony. If these wouldn't be suitable, do you have any other recommendations for that roses lining the aisle look? Thanks!

I think they will be fine! I would spray them down with Crowning Glory, though. Sprays can go floppy quicker than a standard rose, so I would let them open and then keep them in the cooler until wedding day instead of them being in room temp for 3 days.

I was hoping that you would address the thorns and stickers on spray roses. how do you clean the stems so that you can handle them. I've purchased some varieties that I ended up throwing out because I couldn't handle them. There are so many small stickers that it was impossible to clean and be sure that you wouldn't get stuck later on. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thorns always make working with roses tough! You can use a a leaf and thorn stripper, we carry one on our Supply Site at diyflowersupply.com! You can also try wearing gardening gloves or nitrile gloves when working with spray roses, they should protect your hands from the thorns!

I have a question on mini spray rose, it looks like they dry out very fast, even when sitting in a bucket of water with ice, no cooler. Do they require special treatment?
@FlowerMoxie

Spray roses are actually very hardy! They need the same care as other roses - give them a fresh cut, place them in clean water, remove any guard petals, and remove all leaves below the waterline to keep bacteria at bay. If you need to encourage them to open, you can place them in a sunny spot. Otherwise, keep them in a cool room away from direct sunlight. Never put ice in the water as this would likely damage them. Spray roses are one of our favorite flowers to work with!

How do you keep these fresh in a bouquet if you're cutting down the buds and it won't touch the water?
@FlowerMoxie
@FlowerMoxie 16 күн бұрын
We'll typically cut down the shorter blooms to use in boutonnieres and corsages. We keep the stems in bouquets long enough to be in water so they stay fresh and hydrated!

Anything that's going to be hardy and hold up out of water will work best! Carnations will work, but typically I would use the blossoms from dendrobium orchids and string them together.

Whenever I get spray roses they seem to wilt and get floppy super fast, like within a couple days. I give them a fresh trim and get thin in water immediately but I don’t know what I’m done wrong. Same with standard roses

Try changing your water everyday that you have the blooms and making sure to give them a fresh cut often so they continue to drink! Also, keeping your blooms away from sunny windows and heating vents helps too!
