At Rock Hill Farm and Homes we upload new videos at least 3 times per week, about our 20 Acre hobby farm, our John Deere 2038R compact tractor and other equipment, and the businesses that we run.
These businesses include a manufacturing operation, a Christmas tree farm, real estate investing, a lawn care business, and an online retail store. I demonstrate how I am able to use these ventures to earn a good living without a traditional job.
We have some cool toys and always think outside the box on our little homestead so come along for the ride.
You can expect new videos from us every other day, usually around 8 AM.

2 years ago I tried to do the same thing on my field gave up and tilled it all (1 acre) then smoothed it out with box blade land plane. then I planted 50 lbs of fescue and lightly raked it in now its come in full and green

Thanks for sharing. The tiller smoothed it out fairly well but it’s so fluffy I think I’m gonna work at some more

Thanks for the video! I was thinking about getting a tiller for my tractor, and now I'm pretty sure that it's the way to go. I sometimes struggle with getting different dirt types to do what I want. Adding a tiller seems to give the proper array of tools needed.

Yeah, Taylor is definitely not just for gardens. You can do a lot of leveling with a tiller and a bucket It at least loosens it up enough that you can work it

Tried a very similar thing with my landscape rake Sunday and experienced the same results. I did notice that extending the top link all the way out did slightly increase effectiveness. A dethatcher or something with wire-type tines is more effective, but clogs up alot.

Thanks, ive been wanting to do the same in my front yard but not sure how it would turn out. Would love to see a follow up video if you seed it and what its like to mow after the grass is back.

I just went out there to work at a little bit more and I think I may make a follow up video because it’s really not finished. The tiller leaves it too fluffy

@@RockhillfarmYT I spread dirt over old lawn on a small area but made the mistake of compacting it down with the tractor so the grass didnt really catch after seeding with wet straw. my next plan was to spread dirt over old lawn with box blade, leave loose and try seeding that, but im not green fingered lol

Not sure why this tends to make a difference for me, but turning the rake around and using it to push rather than pull seems to be more aggressive for scraping

I wonder if you could have mowed off all that grass? I've moved a lot of debris with good mower decks. Start in the center and mow out.
@RockhillfarmYT
@RockhillfarmYT 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a good suggestion I had already mowed it once but the problem is the ground was so uneven I had to mow it with the deck up really high to keep it from bottoming out on the dirt

@@RockhillfarmYT I see. I wouldn't run my new 72" deere deck in the dirt but I would set my old Dixie chopper deck right on the ground. Good thing is you got past the matted grass clippings. Btw.... I always hit the like button at the beginning of the videos. 🙂🚜🇺🇸

I don't have a landscape rake, but I wonder if you had angled the rake whether it might hang on to the dead grass better and drop it off to the side. Just a tho't.

Sorry for not responding sooner. I like to answer any questions right away but I don’t want to give a bad answer To this one. I can give you the link to the one I bought but I actually don’t think I recommend it for a couple of fit reasons I could give you A link to the one tractor time with Tim recommends but they’ve been sold out for months. I think I’m gonna buy another one and make another video on the channel about it soon
