Thunder Junction Play boosters got mashed with the BIG (aftermathy set), so it did have way more rares/mythics than Karlov Manor, so Graham was incorrect in that statement.

At least it takes some heat off of a Suspicious Stowaway in the Waterfront District, and the Dockside Chef and Grizzled Angler at Rishadan Port don't have to look out as much for Coastal Piracy.

Invasion of Alara -> Fetch Quest -> Cemetery Desecrator is a pretty cool thing you can do with that one specific battle, anyways. t3 Topiary Stomper -> t4 Invasion of Zendikar and immediately flip it is also...... well, disheartening on the other side of the table, but "cool"

It's interesting that hear Graham describe how he interacts with Secret Lairs and nodding along thinking "Yep, same". I do try put as many cards as I can into decks, but more than I care to admit sit in my binder. I just like the real pretty / unique art!

About the last question. If you are purely looking for background noise I think the Set stories (dont know what else to call them) are great. I loved the WOE story and providing story context may help immerse your students even more into the MTG backstory.

From my Thunder Junction prerelease, can confirm it is VERY possible to get a sealed pool without any bombs or barely any rares at all.

After watching the last year of PTs, I have to agree with Wheeler's take about how much sideboards bring to a competitive environment. Sideboard plans and sideboard constructions are really interesting to listen to.

I personally enjoyed limited far more when it was more distinct from constructed without set-in-stone draft archetypes, eternal-legal bombs and sign-post uncommons everywhere.

They've said that they've gotten a little, reductive, derivative, idk the right word. But basically they've all started boiling down to long joke names and aren't really adding anything new.

I love Walking the Planes! I rewatch it yearly. I had it on last year and even my girlfriend who doesn’t play magic wanted to keep watching more. It’s a great show!

I agree with wheeler about unbanning Panopticon Mirror. I believe the main issue was people using it to get infinite turns but not only there are easier 2-card combos to pull off but also there are cheaper ways to do it. I'll never understand allowing 1-card wincons like Tooth and Nail or Emergent Ultimatum and banning Panopticon. I'd much rather they banned Dockside and other stupid snowbally cards that can only be truly stopped by countermagic instead (and while at it stop the nonsense that was allowing companions to work in commander).

I think you are confused. "Masters" implies a pure reprint set. The only exception was Commander Masters which still was only reprints in the main set, but had some new cards in the Commander precons. While a theoretical "Canadian Highlander Masters" would likely have higher than average booster prices, it's not the same as sets like Modern Horizons.

I agree with Wheeler. I play commander, not MTG! I used to play (multiplayer) MTG, but after failing to find people to play with for a long time, EDH turned out to be my playgroup's savior. I just don't know why there's so much "discourse" about ward, but I do think Voja is kinda boring in that it's a one card combo with itself (ish) in a way that's been happening more and more lately.

I never buy secret lairs. The import tax on them just kills any appeal and value of them.

The bit about not committing to formats as much in the modern age resonated with me, and I really appreciated how you phrased your points there. I don't play much Arena, and between that and the release cadence, I feel like I barely touch a format nowadays. Before I've done my second draft everyone's decided that 17lands has solved the format anyway. Felt like it was just me. Thanks folks.

Just because lots of people seem to call early on that a format is solved doesn't mean they are right. There have beens lots of recent examples of people claiming a color is bad early on then it proving to not be the case within a few weeks or less.

You are right, of course. The emphasis on data does make the conversations around the format less fun for me though.
