YOUR RELATIONSHIP. I know every relationship has its secrets and battles but you two, on camera, brighten my day with your teamwork, kindness to each other, quality of your crafts (wood, garden, animal husbandry, etc.). A real joy to watch your video.

Hi Katie and Greg. I absolutely loved the opening 3+ minues with all the crew out for a relaxing walk. The sight and sounds of the rushing water was so very enjoyable! That must be close by so why can't you get the water from that source, rather that the other setup? The fencing / gate project came out great - well done Katie and Greg!! Watching you both is an absolute joy. Over time, it has been a pleasure to watch you both change and grow. Greg, you are very skilled and a master homesteader IMO and since you were able to quit your job, you have gotten much more relaxed and outgoing and provide a lot of narrative on the videos which is nice. Katie, I have said many times, how impressive you are and how very proud I feel watching you do what you do and this video was no exception. You have come so far and grown into a true pioneer woman who is skilled and self sufficient in every sense. Greg, you are a luck man; you two seem to bring out the best in each other Have a great week. Larry, Central Valley, Ca.

On your chickens, clip just one wing instead of both when you're trimming the feathers. They will attempt to fly but that throws them off balance to where they can't fly.
@davidbennett7190
@davidbennett7190 2 ай бұрын
Another thing to consider is choosing breeds of chickens that don't fly so well. The old boring heavy breeds like White Rock, Buffs, etc were the standard for a reason, they like to stick close to home and sleep in the house. I've raised many flighty birds that would give wild jungle fowl a run for their money and it is fun, they sleep in the trees if given half a chance and don't grow old, they are no competition for the birds of prey, foxes, dogs, etc.

Woohoo so exciting. The fence is great. I used to live on 17 acre lot with my then girlfriend, we had 70 goats, and we lived in an old timber framed house right next to a massive forest. These wood posts are good enough for a couple of years and in my opinion, they look great. But I would start considering concrete posts, I had 1/10 of the plot fenced like this right next to the barn, so a sizable plot where i could spread hey in the winter, so they had some activity, and in the summer they had a stable supply of food that they had access too in a case when I had to go to town etc. and its indestructible. A good measure for when a caretaker has to come and take care of the animals for few days max. People who didn't keep goats don't know, but they are one stubborn animal. The grass is always greener on the other side for a goat. They will try to destroy every fence you throw at them. For those who might misunderstand we had to fence them to protect them from wolves. My neighbour lost 30 sheep overnight, wolves didn't eat them, the mothers trained the young on the sheep on how to kill. He lost all 30 of his goats and had to somehow deal with the aftermath of this, so its not easy especially because people are attached to their animals.

Watching that spring runnoff makes me think that you might consider upping your cistern capacity; for your convienence as well as having water on hand for fire suppression and irrigation. Living rural means having to be prepared to fight fires and keeping a fire suppession zone around your home.

What you do for your animals is great, but it's not so easy to make everyting so close because the animals always find something where they can escape from your property. You have done everything to make it like a Fort Knox, it's fun for them to escape. Have a nice weekend and greets from The Netherlands.

Greg and Katie I couldn't help but notice the creek with the waterfall, that would be a fantastic place for a turbine for Electric power to keep batteries, charged or other functions you can purchase a turbine for anywhere from 100/ 500 bucks and have an emergency back-up power if that small fall doesn't freeze during the winter you will always have to the Homestead

Thank you for the nice reply, as I'm always watching your video and what your doing on the Homestead, I am trying to think of things I would do there, One being putting a Turbin in that creek, I think only 3 wires are required a ground common and neutral to make it work I THINK LOL

When we had chickens growing up the same problem happen. So Mom only clipped one side of the wings. It makes them a little off balanced and they can't fly over fences. It doesn't hurt the chickens but makes them unable to fly very high.

@ 27:25 lesser known thing is if you tie a string to that hole in top of latch and drill hole in post the sting goes through the hole and you tie to a washer and the gate can be opened from the inside by pulling the washer that is tied to the string that is knotted to latch

I always used to have problems with my chicken getting in my garden all the time until I put up stuff that the chickens can't see the garden and haven't had problems anymore Seems like if they can see anything green that tried to get to it no matter what I've caught wings I usually end up cutting both of the wings but they can still jump 3 or 4 feet high

What do you do with a spanged ankle? You binge watch This off grid life with Katie and Gregg of course. Started watching from 3 yrs ago. My goodness how far you have come. What an accomplishment. You built your own home with your own two hands. From nothing to a beautiful home. I especially loved when Gregg left to go rock climbing and Katie realized that life/work just doesn't have balance without one another. I was fearful about you being all alone. Lions, Tigers 🐅 and Bears🐻! It warmed my heart seeing you hug on Gregg and you said "I got my man back". That's right girlfriend hang on to that amazing man! Roofer, electrician,, home builder, plumer, Break dancer to boot! I LOVED the episodes when you two reveal how much you two really complete one another. How much you mean to one another. Its something I miss. Being single for 20 yrs i miss having a partner...Thank you for sharing...note please no more butt hole t-shirts that was gross😅

Garden fencing. Looks really good. I wonder if the goats might push thru underneath it. (They are in their own compound later though?) A Length of wood at the bottom connecting the posts would solve this, if it is deemed a concern. Best regards, phil 🇬🇧

Oh, how I LOVE, LOVE your videos!! I’ll say it again - you two work together soo well. Katie, you will do anything, or give it give it a try. Greg, we all know that you will not turn your head away from a challenge! When Katie as cutting off the extra wire on the gate, and struggling, Greg magically stepped in and gave her the hammer to finish the nails while he finished cutting the wire. My point is that one of you step in to help when you see that the other needs it. Your Texas grandma/aunt is so proud of you and what the two of you have accomplished!
