Video for those who lack “applied” metalworking. No music or long conversations. As they say, “less words, more action.”
There has long been a desire to make the cutting process on the IZH 250 ITV lathe less stressful and more automated. The machine cuts in manual mode a little better than TV-shki and in case of the slightest carelessness it breaks the cutters, damaging the parts. This process would probably go more smoothly with a constant supply of coolant, but in hobby mode with infrequent use of the machine, this has a bad effect on the latter and increases the time spent on cleaning.
The solution is quite simple, make a spring cutter with a retractable blade and a replaceable plate. Such a cutter works best with coolant, but can work normally without it.
In this case, a blade for 3 mm thick plates is used. Unlike narrower ones, 3mm plates are already shaped for better chip removal and can compress the latter.
The manufacturing process is almost the same as the previous cutter shown earlier on the channel. There is no practical difficulty, but in order to do everything quickly, you need specific equipment in good condition. For example, a rotary table capable of milling without preload. In this case, an HV-6 table is used with an installed nylon bushing with tension; such a table always rotates tightly, but actually has no backlash. When finishing the ends of the holder, the cutter removes metal from the entire thickness of the plate, and this is more than 18 mm, which is no longer trivial for the NGF 110.
