Springbok Scrum Tribute 2021 | The Most DOMINANT Scrum In Rugby

Here is a video I did on the Springbok scrum throughout the 2021 season. The Springboks had the most dominant scrum in rugby this year and they used it as a weapon. I can't remember the last time a team had so much depth in the front row, it's honestly scary. No matter who starts up front or who comes in at half time, they Springboks still poses the most dominant scrum in the game.
I was especially surprised with Ox Nche, I always knew he had the talent to succeed at international level, but nobody could see him develop at such a quick rate. The way his scrummaging improved in the past few seasons bodes well for South Africa and their title defence of the World Cup in 2023.
This forward pack of the Springboks will be one to be remember when it's all said and done. The likes of Trevor Nyakane, Vincent Koch, Steven Kitshoff, Frans Malherbe, Malcolm Marx, Bongi Mbonambi, and Ox Nche all played their part making the scrums a weapon for the Springboks.

@@jonathandavis8599 Absolutely. Don't know why nobody saw it. They scrummed inwards and injured one of our players doing so. Always on the opposite side of where the ref was. They did the same with lineouts, pushing early before our locks hit the ground to neutralise our mall. They did however slow and stop our mall legally by having one player on both sides of the malls pushing on, preventing the mall from turning.

I think it was Kobus Wiese (lock) in the '95 world Cup that said to his front row on a crucial scrum 'you can go up, down, left or right - but you're not going backwards'... Nowadays it's simply 'we're going straight through'... SA it's blessed with Incredible forwards, and to have 2 complete sets of dominant scrums must be an absolute nightmare for the opposition. Long may it continue.

Thing is,the world has been so conditioned to a certain style of play by a certain team to an extent that this is labeled as boring rugby, but for the rugby purist, this right here is a thing of beauty,a marvel to behold, and any team who comes up against the Springboks are forced to go back to basics of rugby, the technicals,no airy fairy, walking on clouds type of rugby, even a certain team is forced to go back to basics when playing the Boks, its just splendid

Yeah, it's really on a different level. The last time I saw a scrum like that was the Argentina team with Marco Ayerza, but he was the only guy making that scrum dominant. With the Springbok pack, no matter who is in the front row, it's going to be dominant. They don't rely on a couple of player, they have a ton of depth who are equally as good in the scrum.

The Spicy Plum - Steven Kitshoff - is the best loosehead prop in world rugby. Unbelievable player. But for me the guy to watch in this video is Vincent Koch. Dominated all the teams at scrumaging. This why I say the Biks can improve by 10 or 15% by adding Kolbe, PTSD and Fassi in the team. But how will the other teams improve their scrums, this is one place you can't hide. Sure England tried a few tricks and won them a penalty or two, but then the Boks dominated again.

Small stuff I can help with, even though I am a flanker not prop in my team, is the entire frontrow is taking very small steps forward. Small steps mean more traction over time compared to big steps. Another overlooked thing is the shoulder flexibility and strenth of the Springbok props, meaning they can move their mass ever so slighty into an advantageous position "over" the opposing props whilst keeping their centre of mass very low, and then pressing downwards. This results in immense forward pressure and especially lots of pressure on the opposing props neck/traps while the boks use their necks/traps as an upward folcrum from that higher shoulder and lower head position. Keep in mind while our starting props are pretty short Frans Malherbe who is our best pure scrummager In my opinion is 1.9 meters tall. He does the shoulder manipulation trick very well. Hope this helps you spot it in the future.
