I finally ran across the correct name for the compound flowers - fasciated! Google has a couple of interesting articles about it. Roots and Refuge was talking about them today. She showed one that had rot problems. We tend to get bugs in the nooks and crannies of the split parts. That is probably not an issue for you guys in the greenhouses. Thanks again for all the knowledge that you share!

The cat faced tomatoes on some plants taste good, but we have found that, at least on some varieties there are a lot of sections that are unusable- kind of weird, susceptible to rot and lots of tough skin. It will be interesting to see how they work out on your varieties. As always, thanks for all the tips. I just desuckered our greenhouse plants again yesterday. Have a great week!

Two of my tomato plants have two branches that make a V like y'all showed in the video of pruning pepper plants. The V starts right above the ground and is not a sucker. Should I get rid of one stem?

Would you both consider using a scissor or knife for a cleaner cut or do they consume more time? I was thinking just snapping they off would increase more injuries to the plant?

Great video! As you have so many plants, how do you manage to ensure the tomato flowers get pollinated in the poly tunnel? Do you leave the sides or ends open once flowering starts?
@im_a_farmie_girl5530
@im_a_farmie_girl5530 5 жыл бұрын
Our tomatoes are self pollinating! We have bees also to help and opening up the sides does work:) We have used electric toothbrushes in the past but we found shaking the plants have done great! Thanks:) Haili
@SimonKirk
@SimonKirk 5 жыл бұрын
Im_A_Farmie_ Girl thanks for the insight! Whilst electric toothbrushes sound intriguing I think I’ll try out the shake’n’pollinate once I get a bigger garden and grow tunnel (my 50sq ft London garden isn’t very accommodating!)

I have a determinate "Husky Red" cherry tomato. Last year I de-suckered it, and I had fewer than normal and it grew more like a indeterminate ( tall and lanky). I've left it this year, but there is so much foliage I worried the fruit won't ripen. Should I leave it alone or prune it?
@im_a_farmie_girl5530
@im_a_farmie_girl5530 5 жыл бұрын
I would do a light prune to get the air and light through and see how that does for fruit production, also if you can get your hands on some Tomatoe and Veg by (Organique) that is a good food for them!:) Hope this helps and you get lots of delicious tomatoes!! Haili😊

SMN Gardener Community Supported Agriculture 🙂 Customers buy a share of the grower’s produce and either pick up or have it delivered each week. Rather than choosing what they want at market, they receive a portion of whatever is growing each week. Sometimes there are choices, too. It’s pretty popular where I am!

Hmm, unless Brandywines are different in Canada those don't look like Brandy's... Brandywines have very short leaf branches and are a potato leaf variety. The fruit is usually smoother and not ribbed...
