Thanks my childhood house has a sprinkler system working ok but I can never find the valves there are 9 total I have 4 zones in the front yard and 5 in the backyard and I believe this method will help me find them btw when I saw zone 2 shut off I heard the valve sound in the bushes I’m like OH! I think I can use my ears and fowllow the sound very cool video thanks

Absolutely! Sometimes ears can be a great help in finding valves.

This is a suped up version of the Klein circuit finder we use to find regular electrical circuits.

Hello, i have a zone not working so i tried 3 different valves to try turn on manually but i dont see water or anything from all 3 valves i checked. What does that mean? Thanks

It could be in several things, number one if you have a master valve, you want to say anything, also, if the valves do not have water, you wouldn’t see anything, and finally, if the valves and cells are blocked. Somehow, you wouldn’t say anything.

@sprinklerrepair4L oh ok so that might be a major fix to check all of that. If I have a master valve if that's blocked or anything that will shut off the rest of my zones right? If blocked I will have to take each one out to find out where it's blocked?

@@thismarcus4926 it’s very unusual that everything would be blocked at the same time. Most of the time it’s going to be from somethings systemic like a turn off, master valve, backflow.

Ok I try keep looking at the rest of my valves and everything hopefully I can find it why this one zone not getting water when I turn it on. Thanks for your help

Great video thanks. I have an electric gate I believe one of my valve wires follows. To remove interference will simply turning off all of my electricity at the main help?

Yes, I assume your trying trace it with a valve finder? If so, yes turning the ac off will help or using a digital valve finder. Good luck!

4L Irrigation Repair yep actually I'm planning to get an irrigation shop out to have a look. I just wanted to check it would ease their job by turning off the mains. Thanks for the quick reply!

You replied to me and it came through my notifications, but doesn't make it possible to reply back. My comment does not appear at all on the main page. I'm the one that asked how to locate pipes and sprinklers from the valve. It looks like whoever installed this system kept all valves near the water source and ran something to the sprinklers. We know where some of the sprinklers are and there is water coming from some of them when we turn it on. We were hoping to use some sort of locator to find the pipes to discover the other sprinklers. All of the wires end at the valves. So I don't think a normal wire tracer would work because I think it could be plastic. I understand that some installations have a tracing wire in the pipe? If I could put a tone on it, I could trace it. Would it be embedded in the pipe if it exists? If so, how would i hook a wire to it?

I am not aware of any systems in the north Texas area where I’m located that have a tracer wire. We are able to find main lines because the wires for the valves are ran in the same trench. I am not aware of an instrument that will find just the PVC pipes. If there is a tracer wire I assume you could put a attach to it with a Valvel finder on it and trace it. However I have never experienced a tracing wire.

@@jpvoodoo5522 I have heard of guys using metal wire fishing tape and inserting it into pvc pipe and tracing it that way, but I’ve never done it.

You can check a valve manually by either turning the solenoid to the left or opening the bleed screw if the valve has one. I use an Armada Pro 9000 for tracing and a Pro48 to remotely test the valve. Hope this helps.

wouldn't a metal detector be a good tool to find a valve box?

I’ve never tried it so I’m not sure if it would work or not. Most fouls only have metal screws to hold on the bonnet. I’m not sure if that would be enough or not. The Val finder actually sends a signal down the wire, and it works pretty well.

This particular valve finder is a greenlee 521a. It works well but the one I use daily is an Armada pro 900.

What does the, "CPF" and the "DVF" stand for, in Rain Bird irrigation valves please?

I'm checking on the exact meanings from Rain Bird, but the difference is the C series is made for the homeowner and the D series is their pro version. Here is one case study on what they saw as the main differences... www.watertips.com/tutorial/prograde.htm

The good folks at Rain Bird sent me the definitions and CP stands for Consumer Products and DV stands for Diaphragm Valve. The F in both stands for flow control which not all valves possess.
