And we have Megan Mulally to thank for this episode. Nick was originally going to pass on it for another project, but then she read the script and more or less told him (according to Nick), “You’re doing this.”

Aww come on, murray was good, but Nick absolutley CRUSHED it. He took a relatively unlikeable character from the game and managed to somehow turn him into the most hilarious, heartwrenching character in the whole show. Hes the best performance in the series bar Bella Ramsay

big big agreed on that, like nick offerman really transformed an otherwise unmemorable character from the game into a highlight of the franchise. i already loved TLOU, but offerman’s performance in the really elevated the series as a whole.

What I love about this scene is it adds value to the ps4 game. Now that we “know” Bill, we can love his cute albeit terrifying town all the more. This is why we have writers. This is lore. World building. It is everything.

@@Catdad666IMO you can spot the exact moment that Show Bill splits off from Game Bill. It all comes down to their argument where Frank wants to paint the houses and cut the lawns and make the town look pretty and Bill doesn’t want to waste the resources. I feel like Game Bill put his foot down and said “no, we have to prioritize conserving resources” and thus he ended up a sad man all alone, whereas Show Bill agreed and he had a happy life with the man he loved and they died in each other’s arms.

This, *THIS* is how you end one of your main characters, you make us ready for their outing rather than just giving us an abrupt execution that has no meaning or relevance, nor a violent, abrupt brutality that feels less of a conclusion to a story and more like an insult for all their efforts. Saddest part is, this was for one of the major side characters!
@Izawwlgood
@Izawwlgood 6 ай бұрын
Yes that is one way to do it. Or, alternatively, you can make it abrupt and horrifying, violent and brutal, an underline to consequences of their action and the world they live in. And set the stage for those that loved them to respond to it, to grow from it. Like Sarah's death. Like Joel's death.
@connerthewubbzler1062
@connerthewubbzler1062 6 ай бұрын
@@Izawwlgood I suppose that is a fair retort, though I do feel like what happened to Sarah was more of a Tragedy that could've happened to anyone, while what happened to Joel felt way more like a "Deus Ex Machina" pulling the strings considering the events that line up oh so conveniently. But I'm not gonna argue that, I actually have an alternative question for you... How would you feel if the show did things in a different order than how the game initially did it? Like, we learn about Abby first, don't know her connection to Joel until Episode 2 where we find out her Dad was the doctor, and then we cut to Ellie's part of the game. (There's a couple of other changes that I think can help give people a better experience with this Season, but I'm curious about what you think of the idea of us getting to know Abby first rather than just having her show up as a sociopath right off the bat.)

@@Izawwlgoodyou know what? I disagree. I’m tired of stories where suffering is the teacher of the story. Because in real life, suffering isn’t a teacher, nor a good one either to be honest. People suffer, and that’s it; sometimes it’s their fault, most of the times it isn’t.
