Barely finished just before the end of May...
This is definitely the most ambitious project I've worked on in terms of visuals and audio, taking about three months from start to finish.
This is a parody of the original video Marisa Stole the Precious Thing by IOSYS, with inspiration taken from countless other remixes, especially RazQ's remix (also a shameless reference to Mowtendoo's Bonkumiru). Is it still a Meet the Spy YTPMV if there's no footage from the source?

I can answer that being a shitlord from back then. It was because the TF2 mercs were a unique cast of characters that didn't have any built out story. So everyone was basically creating lore for the characters. Touhou was also ridiculously popular around the same time period for very similar reasons- a cast of characters that had these stories in game, but were much more interesting out of game. So two groups of people had the same idea- make their own lore of their favorite bunch of characters. It was perfect because the creativity created community.

@@DrBlueHigh a lot of people played both, but honestly idk how anyone could be a fan of Overwatch now. They basically rereleased the game with a new payment model because they weren't milking their audience enough. It's under the guise of it being a new game with a staggered pve release, but the gameplay in the game now is the same as Overwatch 1 and they made playing the "original" impossible now. What a super shitty business practice.

@@catchy9665 The TF2 and Touhou community have been crossing over with each other for a super long time. There actually used to be a TF2 server called Touhou Hale, which was the Saxton Hale gamemode but every boss and characters were from Touhou. Sadly this server shut down but you can find videos of it on youtube

That was definitely the hardest part of making this video, but here's a fun fact I learned. The font used in the beginning section of the video is the same font used in the smash bros newcomer trailers, which is DF Gothic W12. I typed the words into a preview font generator and edited a screen shot of it lol

Man. This made me emotional. I'm over 30, and this brought back a lot of good memories of being a late teen getting into tf2 and touhou back in the golden era of the internet. I dont play them anymore, but the memes still living on is a testament to how impactful they were to internet gaming culture back then. For a moment I felt like it was 2009 and it felt good.

Genuinely this is exactly how I felt making this. I've wanted to make this video a reality for so long but I didn't know about how to do much of anything when I was a kid bingewatching Touhou and TF2 YTPMVs lmao. I was honestly surprised after all this time that there wasn't a TF2 parody for this song especially given how popular it was. Thank you for your comment, it really spoke to me

youtube has a spam detector, if you comment a lot you get assigned to it, for instance i sometimes have to resend even 15 times, i assume its people who dont know it didnt go through

Ey, not sure if you'll see this, but it's been happening with both the comments I post and the comments other's post on my stuff. Not sure why it happeneds, but it's kinda weird and just stupid. However, something I do know is that you gotta "censor" swears and such or else KZfaq will absolutely delete them There have also been a good few times where KZfaq just disables my comment section everytime I upload, which I have no idea why cuz I set all of my videos as not for kids All in all, KZfaq's comment section is just a mess

@@washys That's simple. Marisa Stole the Precious Thing is my favorite BGM and I often seek out YTPMV utilizing my favorite sources and/or BGM. I'm surprised MY YTPMVs of all people inspired you, since I've largely stopped making them due to a worry that I'm not good at it.

@@TJ-Henry-Yoshi ah yes, i've had the idea for a looooong time, but i've never had the skills to make it up til now. at the time i was inspired from your old videos just from the fact that you made original content and had the confidence to upload it online (not trying to be mean), which was something i struggled with for a long time Nowadays I still have that feeling as I'm usually reluctant to share these videos I make. I really hoped this one would be up to snuff since I wanted to do the Touhou x TF2 crossover proper justice which was quite tiring a lot of the times (being stuck in quarantine helps tho) but in the end I'm glad to see that you and everyone enjoyed it so much

I really hope I'm not the first to notice, but I absolutely adore the attention to the small detail on the lights behind soldier when the specific ones light up when the red spy is in the base at 0:43 mark. Quick edit: I also love the subtle detail of the waving helmet straps at the same time too.

At first I thought the vocals for the main bit were made using that new neural net voice generator that was released recently that included the TF2 cast, but looking at the date, I guess it wasn't out yet at the time this was made, meaning he had to actually do all that splicing manually. Hot damn.
