I have two fake Benchmades, and I'm really happy with them. My latest one is the Full Immunity, it's a gem! I bought it for €15, it works very well, I can't stop having fun opening and closing it, it has no defects. I sharpened the blade and it cuts like a razor. I will never in my life spend €150 or €300 on a Benchmade. Cutlery stores are so bad at selling them that I've seen 30% off deals on knives that weren't released very long ago. Benchmade owners often complain that the price is too high compared to the quality. This also happens with some Spydercos, including one costing €600 ! An owner of this very expensive knife made a video of it, it's a shame for this price, it's bordering on a scam. These are just knives made on a chain by machines. I would spend €300 without worry on a knife from a craftsman blacksmith cutler who makes everything by hand, but never on a knife made by robots.

Thank you for giving me confidence. I have just seen DBK's video about the AD-10 fake and began to wonder about mine. After watching this i am certain i have a real one, which is a relief. thanks again.

Thank you for pointing out all the differences between a fake one and the real one. Now the clones have been corrected and it’s almost impossible to tell the difference so you might be buying a clone and you don’t even know it.

Don't typically see someone make a video solely to show others how little they know about the subject. It's obvious this guy had just started collecting knives within the month and had never seen another knife video. 😕 If that isn't correct, do today's high-school kids believe having 2 or more of something makes you look like an expert, and that others will automatically believe anything you say?? 🙄

I appreciate you taking the time to watch my video and share your thoughts. You’re right that I’m still learning about Spyderco knives and the broader world of knife collecting. My intention with the video was to share my journey and evolving understanding of these tools, rather than to present myself as an expert. I believe that sharing this process can be valuable for others who might be new to the hobby as well. I’ve certainly spent more than a month exploring and using these knives, and my goal is to continue learning and improving my knowledge.

Great info. I really appreciate your side by side comparisons but my issue along with many others, I'm sure. How is the best way to spot fakes in the field if you don't have a real one with you? If I was to put a syperco in your hand, could you identify if it was real or fake? If so, what is your go-to method?

The real knife blade is much harder. You can use the real one to scratch the fake one, but not the other way around. I ordered a fake, I just sharpen it more often. It costs only a 1/10 of the real one. You get what you pay for. Unless you are planning to use the real one for chopping down tree, a fake is good for EDC.
@danielb6472Ай бұрын
I just recieved a fake, a few things that I noticed on mine are that the scales are "milled carbon fiber" on the tops, but the sides look like layered wood. The real benchmades are milled all around. The blue on the fakes all seem to be lighter than the real one too, even your video shows that. My pocket clip holes look more legit than yours do, plus my pocket clip is indistinguishable from the real ones, other than a rougher finish. The biggest give away is that the blade is just horrible. There are pits everywhere, the milling on one side is drastically worse than the milling on the other. I wish I could tag a picture to this comment, one is clean but very basic, the other looks like they got done then decided to run 2 lines lengthwise for some reason. The steel itself is also weird looking, like forged carbon fiber almost... Almost like irregularly sized patches of metal flakes pressed into a metal finish. It might be cool if it was done uniformly and on purpose. This is a $8.99 gas station knife that cost $28 because it looks like a $250 name brand knife.
@danielb6472Ай бұрын
I just recieved a $28, (shipped from China), fake that I obviously knew was a fake beforehand. I wanted to see if it was at least a good size and at all fidget-able for an edc knife. I dont live near any retailers that sell connesoir level knives, so I've had issues in the past where I go off reviews and recieve a $150+ knife that I dont like to carry for one reason or another. This way I get to buy it, try it, then really buy it if I like it. For what its worth, first impressions are that the release mechanism is too small for me, it also puts 2 of my fingers in a bad spot when closing. Saved me a couple hundred dollars getting this thing, and I still have a work knife that shaved my arm hair out of the box. I'm happy with my chinese junk so far.
@lombro1262Ай бұрын
C'mon, the proudly made in USA argument doesn't hold water anymore. The fact is that many genuine Spyderco models are indeed made in China like the Tenacious, Resilience, Persistence and many others. And while the genuine PM-2 is US made and comes with better steel, it's frankly terrible value for money considering the overinflated price. So yes, the Chinese clones make a lot of sense, even if the steel are a little sus, it's still excellent value for the money. Besides, nobody in their right mind is going to believe they are actually buying the real thing at fifty bucks or less, right? 🤨
@ronaldmercer9616Ай бұрын
I agree with you buddy , I have numerous American made knives ,they're all overpriced and the clones make good beater knives for the tree work I do , as far as Chinese products being inferior, Chinese were experts in metallurgy a thousand years ago when eastern Europeans were still hunting with rocks and stones 😂

My big question is how good is the fake for use? I own a demko sharkfoot. I mean if a fake one can do the same things as the original.
@MikesCarInfoАй бұрын
It is about the same. Edge lasts longer on the real one and the lockup is better but other that that it is about the same to use.

@cleancut-edcАй бұрын
I mean this isn't good. They should not ride on the Demko name, but man I can't help but also feel ripped off by the US Brands. If China can give you that much for so little...it does lead me to think that US Brands are taking advantage of their customers. I hate fakes especially straight up fakes like these, but at the same time I also hate being ripped off while being a loyal supporter of something or someone. If china didn't fake this, but just came out with a new design using the shark-lock and having all these features, most people would gladly pay upwards of 100 dollars, given that the steel is true and heat treated properly.

The attention to detail is excellent. I would really like to know the actual steel quality of the fake. For example, are they made with real D2 and S90V. If they are made with actual quality steel, then U.S. manufacturers are in trouble until the imports are stopped.
@MikesCarInfoАй бұрын
The blade steel is similar to AUS8. Good heat treat. Easy to sharpen.
@gregorygolden1296Ай бұрын
D-2 isn't that bad of a steel. It ALL depends on the Heat Treat. If S90V has a bad heat treat it's shit also.

Fender makes Telecasters in America, they also make them in China and Indonesia to save cost but still make sure to capture the most amount of the market for that product. The fact that American knife makers dont have a sub brand overseas it negligence on their part. This is a free GLOBAL market. Spyderco sort of does this but they mistakingly think that making their sub brand slightly different pushes people to choose the real flagship products over a fake, they are very incorrect.
