I just had a brilliant idea to make the ride smoother for those squares. All they have to do is go from one with 4 points, to one with 8 points...then 16 and so on. Then just continue adding points until the ride is perfectly smooth. I will call my invention: the wheel.

15:00 - 🤔When calibrating the test equipment to determine the smoothness of the ride, they forgot to take something into consideration. The square wheels and tyres were solid and operating without a cushion of air; the original round/circular car tyres were pneumatic and so gave an excellent ride for 2 reasons: shape and composition. For the experimental data to be valid, the soft, squishy pneumatic tyres should have been swapped for solid steel round wheels with airless tyres stretched over them. The ride would have been MUCH rougher. Remember bicycles before Mr Dunlop introduced pneumatic tyres? They really were known as 'Bone-shakers'! With solid wheels for both tests, the only difference would be their shape, and the vibration measurements would have been directly comparable. If manufacturing solid round wheels was too time-consuming or expensive, they could just have let all the air out of the regular tyres. Anyone who's ever driven with a flat will know how rough things can be at speed!

Maybe this comment will come a little bit late, but the reason why the 90° degrees turning didn't work, besides what they mentioned about the traction control, is due to how they are turning the wheels. I can guess they have close to none experience driving with a trailer or something attached. You must consider in which direction you want the point joining both cars move to. For example, the car that it's pushing, in order to turn left, for the car that it is being pushed, it's front part must go to the opposite side, so the car pushing must turn the wheels to the right (opposite direction of the curve), instead of the left, and the car that is being pushed, must turn the wheels to its right, as it would do when turning in that direction going in reverse. This way the force of the car going forward would push the point of the car going backwards, out of the curve. Of course, the back tires of both cars must slip because they will never follow a defined path. This is the reason why, when the cab pushed the sedan, he intended to turn left, but they turned right. Of course, an all-wheel drive car won't allow this maneuver to happen, it's traction system is designed to keep the car in the direction intended, not slipping, unless you turn off all the electronic assistance. Much like what they did with the 360°.

There's the legend that when the cavemen invented the square wheels, Humankind's first engineer took a good look at them and quickly saw the inherent problem with a four-cornered wheel. And, being Humankind's first engineer, took upon himself the task of improving the square wheel. And as the main problem was the corners, he decided to reduce its number and created the *_triangular_* wheel.

@xiro6

@@nicholascrow8133 corners make vibrations, so... Infinite corners equals infinite vibrations. Your idea is the worst you can do. Im amazed how little people thinks nowadays. Its a very simple concept. Even a child can get It, but here you are, with even less mental capacity. You need to reduce the source of those vibrations, the corners, so less corners than a square IS a triangle. We have to get into negative amount of corners, like infinite negative, to have a smooth ride, and be able to develope a transport machine, to move people or even goods without effort across long distances. I even have a name for It: Cars. Its like flying but across land, i swear is not that hard.

@@xiro6 The irony of your ad hominen attack followed by you demonstrating that you do not understand the concept, and then dig in further for your original concept which is fundamentally flawed (i.e triangles) It's not just about the frequency of corners, but the severity of the vibration induced. Roll a square wheel vs a dodecagon wheel down a hill and you will get the idea. Infinite corners = a circle, you cannot have a negative amount of corners in a 2d/3d world. A negative corner is a corner in the opposite direction. Again, that you resort to ad hominen attacks to iterate your point is a good indicator to your thought process. I swear it is not that hard...

@@xiro6er, No, the more corners, the less lower vibration, and smoother the ride. Lets say, for example, you made a steel wheel, but with 360 corners, each 1 degree apart!!! It would 'almost' look like a circle, with the addition of a tyre, like they used, clad around the wheel, that would effectively smooth out the transitions between each apex. Which would reduce vibration significantly compared to a square. If you truly believe what you wrote, I strongly suggest going and studying Geometry for a while. 😁

Do you know what the Citroën 2CV is also famous for? It shows us how front wheel drive works! The drive shafts to both front wheels have a joint, allowing the wheels turning left or right. Well, those joints do have a problem: when doing a U-turn, you can feel that the wheels are not turning a certain speed anymore, the wheel rotation speed starts oscillating. In most cars the engineers opted for a more expensive driveshaft joint, but at 2CV engine power, this effect is not a serious problem. It is just one of the interesting things we can come across in Car World. Compare it to the way a Volkswagen Beetle was constructed. For racing cars, that is called a mono coque, but the original Beetle had that too. It has a chassis "cloonked" out of one plate of steel. Very light, very strong, but also very easy to mass produce. A huge press made the entire chassis of a Beetle. Not many cars are constructed that way. But okay, today it is 2CV.

That should be obvious. That's literally the reason for the ride smoothening. It's how humans run as well. The exact reason for wheels being circles is to make sure they have constant contact with the surface, so by definition something that is not circle will not have constant contact with it. A star with enough arms may being close to a circle, but square? Heck no. It's not riding, it's literally hopping ahead after the speed is high enough for the energy to actually cause some sort of lift.

When the conjoined cars tried to corner 90° Grant should be steering left while Tory steers right. Probably still not help much. Also the 90° turn wasn’t busted as they did one in the opposite direction - so if you know what you’re doing you could turn 90° or if you just messed about you still could. 90° confirmed. And the 180° - watch the replays and Kari never even turns her wheels at all. As for the psi of the square wheels - there isn’t any. They should have made pneumatic square tyres.
