He won a ton of British opens and didn’t start until he was past 30. Imagine how many he would have won had he started playing them at age 20. A couple of stories. He played an opponent and hit the nick with a shot, and the opponent complained it was a lucky shot, so he took the ball and did it again, and again, and again. Another opponent complained that he got everything because he was always in position at the T, so he took position behind him, the other player on the T, and invited him to do his best, and he still got it. He said “squash player hit tin is like carpenter hit thumb with hammer.”

The Competition for No1 in squash will always be between the two Khans .Both Jahangir and Jansher khan are the legends of squash. Nobody could beat jahangir khan for straight 555 games including each set ...That's insane...A world record of any and all sports in the world The rest in the video list are just excellent players but no where near the consistent and legendary skills & qualities of the Khans.

False, the game has evolved so much that the top Egyptians we have today would defeat the khan brothers any day of the week. It’s the same argument with other sports like soccer (Pele, Maradona, etc.) where people think the best players in history played several years ago but they just wouldn’t compete with the modern players. And in 20 years, the best players in the world will be much better than those of today.
@1967briano
@1967briano 3 жыл бұрын
@@bbgm808 Yes. Fair point. Same applies in athletics. Seb Coe’s 800 meter world record stood for at least 16 years. Ali Farag is in the top two or three in the world; his game in particular is tailor made for Jansher. Jonah Barrington said Hashim khan was better than him when khan was almost 40. If the khans has access to modern equipment, training and technological advances of today. They’d be more dominant than the players of today. Although I think there is more depth now.

Thanks for your efforts, PSA -- but this is, of course, the fans' view, which is likely biased in favour of more recent players (for example, Geoff Hunt and Michelle Martin with their outstanding records coming in only at #8 is odd -- and Jansher Khan at #4 astounded me -- in my view, the only argument about Jansher was whether he or Jahangir should be #1!) Anyway, thanks for a very interesting journey (and the players' biographies)

Here's a better ranking: 1. Jehangir Khan (undisputed king of the game) 2. Geof Hunt (no one before him had dominated the game like that) 3. Jansher Khan (absolutely dominated when the game was transitioning into aggressive, attacking forward play - with efficiency of court movement unmatched by any player before or after him - literally just walked around the court) 4. Ramy Ashour (embodiment of exciting squash - great influencer and a brand in himself) 5. Rohan Khan / Chris Ditmar (title tally don't do justice) / Amr Shabana

That is why all “greatest ever” debates are mostly based on that. 20 years from now another “exciting” player will come and people will forget ramy and call the new guy “greatest”. The khans will reign supreme even then. P.s. the recency effect is a bitch

Jansher & Jahangir clearly the top 2 . Beside Jahangir a real threat , rests top 3 opponents of same era only beat Jansher like once or twice over that 10 yrs !! (1987-97). For Jahangir , in 10 yrs (1981-91) beside Jansher , only 2-3 players ever beaten him more than once. If all play in same era , Ashour and Dittmar should easily make top 10 G.O.A.T .

They are all great, without racking them. JK and JK reined supreme. Amr and Ramy brought back the Egyptian dominance. Different times but all great

If you take this on Championships won you can go back to Hashim and Hunt and the take it from there with Jahangir and Jansher in the '80s.........that is if you want to be objective about it.

Wrong analysis more than 6 time world champion more than 5 time British champion more than 5 time world series campion and thats no 4 jansher is much better player than ramy ashour there is no comparison if u play tight shot then even ramy can't get it or in technical terms jansher is complete player stemina power wrist drops reach he just walk in court and in today's conditions jansher and jahangir like players will easyly won....

Depends on your scoring metric....but since you asked me....personally it's Ramy. The Lionel Messi of squash. The quality that I admire (much like I do with Messi) is the imagination. Seeing things I don't and enriching my understanding and enjoyment of the game.

1. MOHAMED ELSHORBAGY - SINCE THE EXIT OF SHABANA, ASHOUR, GAULTIER AND MATTHEW FROM THE TOUR HE2MATURED AND HAS BEEN QUITE DOMINANT. I PLACE HIM AHEAD OF ASHOUR BECAUSE AS TIME GOES BY PLAYERS AND THE GAME IMPROVES. ALSO HE STILL HAS A CHANCE TO ACCOMPLISH MORE SINCE HE IS NOT RETIRED. HE IS A STREET WISE BEAST. (not particularly my favourite player but he cannot be denied one of the top spots). 2. RAMY ASHOUR - GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE SPORT AND ON HIS DAY WAS LEAGUES AND BOUNDS IN FRONT OF HIS CONTEMPARIES.(did not like his attitude at the end of his career he would resign matches when he was close to defeat but his talent is unmatched and cannot be denied the number 2 spot here). 3. AMR SHABANA - MOST BEAUTIFUL PLAYER TO WATCH. MOST NATURAL ORTHODOX TECHNIQUE AND THEN SOME. GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS WAS DOMINANT FOR A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TIME. (my favourite player. I could be biased but I am putting him at number 3). 4. JANSHER KHAN - WALKED ON COURT AND CONTROLLED THE COURT SO WELL WINNING RECORD OF 19 WINS AGAINST JAHANGIR WHILE JAHANGIR WON 18 TIMES. GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS AND BEAUTIFUL TO WATCH. (I am a Khan so I am a littles biased on this one. You will note that generally younger players are rated higher on this list because of the general improvement in the game and players as time goes by). 5. JAHANGIR KHAN - GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS LONGEST WINNING STREAK IN SQUASH HISTORY. (In my opinion boring game to watch. I am not much of a fan). 5. NICK MATTHEW - TENACIOUS AND STRONG WILLED. COULD HAVE ACHIEVED A LOT MORE BUT HE HAD A TOUGH BUNCH OF CONTEMPORARIES WITH ASHOUR, SHABANA AND GAULTIER. (mentally toughest player ever aside from maybe Jahangir). 6. PETER NICOL - ACHIEVEMENTS CANNOT BE DENIED. WAS ON TOP WHEN JANSHER SLOWED DOWN AND STAYED ON TOP FOR THE MOST PART ALTHOUGH HE HAND JONATHAN POWER JOCKEY FOR TOP SPOT UNTIL AMR SHABANA CLEARLY BECAME DOMINANT. (brought a new level of physicality to the sport). 7. JONATHAN POWER - THE MAGICIAN. ONE OF THE MOST ENTERTAINING PLAYERS TO WATCH AND A BEAUTIFUL GAME.A LOT OF HIS ARGUMENTS WERE WELL FOUNDED. THE REFFING TERRIBLE BACK IN HIS DAY. (One of my favourite players to watch. Slightly biased as he is my countryman). HONORABLE MENTIONS (HASHIM KHAN, GREG GAULTIER, KARIM DARWISH, GEOFF HUNT, JONAH BARINGTON, DAVID PALMER, JAMES WILLSTROP, ALI FARAG AND MY SECOND FAVOURITE PLAER KARIM ABDEL GAWAD.

Players playing in khans era had poor stats only because they entered in the sports when khans were in charge. That was their bad luck.

Don't agree with these rankings at all... Everyone knows JKs are 1 and 2 - you can debate which way round that is. Really not sure about the other three. Rodney Martin is just as talented as Ramy and Chris Dittmar was a beast.
