Great tactical performance by Golan who has shown how you have to play to beat Gawad. He is always going for the volley and plays fast pace, if you defend with good lobs, vary the pace and wait for the oportunity he can be beaten, although it is easier to tell than execute..... So great match by Golan, well deserved victory!!

Love it when Golan gets the wrist snap going, literally impossible to read. Combined with the tight counter drops, the only way to beat him is to play it to the back every shot and grind it out. Nick Matthew managed to beat this kind of Golan a couple of years ago, and the mental discipline in that game was the most impressive I've ever seen.

In the match I was thinking of Matthew actually played loopy drives and lobs 70%+ of the time. It was a true display of patience and class against an opponent that was simply too deadly given any attacking opportunity. It was not Golan's body that was beaten at the end of 5 games, but his mind after the gruelling build up of frustration due to being contained so well. Matthew was able to do this despite being match balls down and having to come back through multiple tie breaks to win.

Amazing match, no one expected Golan to play that good even when he is happy as he said!

When he plays with this kind of patient, measured, razor-precise inventiveness, Golan is my favorite player in the world.

Great stuff. What does it take to recover from a herniated disc so quickly and completely? I'd like some of it whatever it is!

SCALP ALERT! Golan not even in the top 20 rankings and he beats the world #2. That's the world #1 and 2 out, interesting. Good on yer Borja!

When Golan is firing and focused, he is close to unplayable.

When Gawad served for game point in the first game 1:55 his left foot was outside the box before he hit the ball. What is the rule concerning that situation, should Golan have got the point or reserve?
@kckcmctcrc

If the Server's foot is NOT in contact with the floor when the ball is struck, it's a fault and thus the receiver's point. In this case it was pretty close, in fact I couldn't tell until I slowed down the video...nonetheless you are correct his foot was off the floor. The referee will generally side with the server unless it's a gross fault giving an advantage to the server.

Yes, they're pretty sloppy about calling these. They should give more warnings in my opinion or else there are going to be some unpleasant surprises when some ref decides to follow the rules.

Great match, Gawad's hamstring is probably what screwed him over here.
