I love the advice you have to offer. I thought it was really interesting what you had to say about piggies needing a quieter environment but that they are actually quite good at adapting to noise. I have 22 male piggies that get to roam the garden during the day and get locked up of an evening. The first week that they were outside the next door neighbor had some construction going on. The pigs didn't care one little bit because they were comfortable in their environment and knew where they could retreat to feel safe if needed. They're not even scared of my dog doing zoomies in the yard because they're so familiar with her just doing her own thing and paying them no mind. They used to be scared of me coughing a lot too, but they're not phased anymore. I love that you touched on the fact that naturally they are herd animals in the wild and that gives them a sense of security. They 100% feed off of each other. They all have their own personalities and some are more curious than others, I love to watch my nervous pigs watch and learn from the confident ones. It's so effective. They are very smart critters.

I was really happy to see that you made this video! I have two relatively shy Guinea Pigs, they live indoors. My Guinea Pig, Bumble, is the most timid pig and doesn't enjoy being held and starts teeth chattering if she thinks i'm going to pick her up, she's a year old and I've tried lots of taming tips but Im hoping she will become more social soon.

Thanks for another brilliant video and some great tips-you really are a true ‘Piggy Whisperer’ !! Isn’t it funny how the noises familiar to them never bother them at all, no matter if they’re really loud like the hoover or TV and then sometimes they all just scoot for cover at a sound you really wouldn’t expect would bother them. Mine hate the sound of my keys jangling and if you dare to sneeze 🤧 in their presence… they’re gone in a flash, bless them! Love 💕 to you and the herd as always xx

They really are the ultimate source of happy hormones - and always good to remind myself (for the future herd!) that it can take a long time. I remember as a youngster being in tears the day we brought Acorn and Basil home to their hutch (this was a long long time ago when we didn’t appreciate piggy well-being like we thankfully do now!) and I couldn’t catch them. I still feel bad for it but the future herd will be showered with so much care and love thanks to KZfaq piggy whisperers like yourself!

My piggies have definitely started to trust us more than when we first adopted them, they will eat from our hands and allow me to stroke their little paws when they put their feet up on the sides of the cage, excited for treats. However, if I try and move my hand to gently stroke their heads or anywhere else on their body they'll instantly run away. Picking them up is a bit of a nightmare, but maybe it will get easier in time!

My senior boys are so much easier to bond with. They enjoy treats and pets and get so excited when I walk in the room. I rescued 2 girls that were severely unsocialized 9 months ago and I cannot even touch them. They got to the point they get excited when I come in the room and wheek from a hidey. They will take a treat from me if they really like it and if I'm calm and quiet they will move and eat in front of me. But it'd hard to bond when they are just so petrified. I think I'm going to try regular daily lap time to see if that helps.

lol my friends have guiniea pigs for the longest and one in particular just won't stop running no matter what. You can walk in the kitchen or that Ginny just thinks you are coming in and they run immedietly. I once put a spoon in the sink gently but it did the smallest tink against a glass and they all scattered lol. Most of them come to me when I am feeding them they will even eat food from my hand but that one ginny pig seems so hopeless no matter how much I try and I've been here for a few months trying to get them to be comfortable. They had them for even longer before I got here but that ginny is more of a chicken then a ginuea pig lol.

I took care of my 5 "grandpiggies" this past weekend at their home and every time I went there, they scurried into their hidies when I came near their cages and refused to come out except to eat. I wanted to pet and cuddle them, but they would have none of it. My son & wife say they are very friendly with them. I will try some of your tips next time I am asked to care for them. Hi. I have had guinea pigs since I was young but I never binded with them or took that much responsibility for them. I am now a teen and have 4 piggies (2 pairs of boars). My older 2 are now tame. My younger 2 are so nervous. I have seen this video when it was posted but wanted to watch it again as they are so nervous. My 2 young boys niw take nuggets and veg from my hand but I am getting nowhere with handling them. I try to guide them into a hide but they kniw what I am doing and avoid all the hides. Amd they just run around like mad. I have tried cornering them too but they just jump over my hands so I end uo kind of having to grab them which I feel so guilty about but I am always as gentle as possible. And when trying lap time they are nervous and solid not really relaxing at all Im a bit stuck on how to get them more comfortable. Any ideas? Please help!

I'm not sure if I'm right about this but if your guinea pigs are too shy to come out and drink from their water bottle/bowl, give them cucumbers as it can hydrate them, but don't give them too much as it can cause an upset stomach and diarrhoea because of their high-water content.

@debbimor8003
@debbimor8003 6 ай бұрын
Unfortunately some piggies just will never get along, if you end up with 2 males who both want to be the dominant one, it can end very badly. I'm not sure of your set-up, but if you can, make sure they have plenty of room and 2 of everything, so each can have their own food bowl, hay, water, hide, toys, etc. and set up each piggy at the opposite end of each other. This may help them as they won't be fighting over the shared items. If they are still fighting, you may have to separate them, put a fence across the middle of their cage or even make the decision to rehome one and try to introduce a new younger male to the one you keep. ❤

They are definitely a commitment and many live 4 to 7 years. Think where you'll be in that time and who can could look after them if you have other life commitments like studying away where you can't keep them with you etc. Day to day their care is not too hard but you need to be knowledgeable about them, their health and be able to take them to an experienced vet when they need it.

I watched so so many you tube videos before I got mine. I learned so much about caring for them. Now I have two pair pigs and I love learning more and more about how to make them more happy and healthy everyday.

I'm not allowed to keep my guinea pigs inside 😭 they r kept in a hutch (they have a run) all year round... My parents think that it's ok to keep them outside and that I read false information 😭 anyone know how to convince my parents to let me keep my piggys outside???? I've already lost 2 piggys to weather, and they barely made it through this winter😭 plz help! Anyone got any tips...???!

I think the fact that you've lost piggies to the weather must be reason enough! There are so many benefits to keeping them inside so I recommend researching as much as possible and presenting the information to them. Also come up with a cage plan and care plan for them inside to proof that you want to take full responsibility for them and they won't smell or anything 😊 best of luck!
