Something folks are missing (or at least glossing over) about Il-Nam and Gi-Hun's last scene is what this final game is REALLY about. Gi-Hun could at any point have helped the dying homeless man himself! BUT he did not. The thought didn't even occur to him. THUS Il-Nam won in the end because he proved that he and Gi-Hun are the same. He got Gi-Hun to watch someone die all for the sake of (betting on) a game. Gi-Hun was watching the man die just like he was watching horse races at the beginning of the show. He's already become just another VIP.

One of the VIPs mentioned the “Korean games” are the best ones, as in there may be other squid games being ran across the world in different countries, that would make for a cool season 2, kid games in Russia, Germany, etc

Seong walking away from his flight to his daughter and choosing instead to confront the games' organisers is similar to the story he told after Red Light, Green Light, when he chose to stay with his dying co-worker instead of being with his wife the day she gave birth.

The only thing I want for season 2 is Jun-Ho to return. Definitely my favorite character in the show, and his "death" was left super open ended.

The old man is the father of the main character. This is from a youtuber named Minhoaurs, he made this video speculating that the old man is the father of the main character. 1. The main character runs into the old man front of a convenience store near his home. The old man say he doesn't live here but came to see someone that he indebted with a gratitude. He also tells the main character that maybe them running into each other isn't too much of coincidence. After their meeting the main character finds an invitation to the squid game underneath the door. High possibility that the old man left the card there. 2. The drama never mentions about the main character's father and there were no pictures of him at his house. 3. During the marble game the old man tells the main character that he once lived in a place just like this and the main character also tells the old man that this place reminded him of his childhood neighborhood as well. (Main character was probably a young child so obviously he wouldn't remember it 100% accurately, but the place does reminded him of this old neighborhood). 4. When the old man finds a house that looked exactly like his old house he says he lived with his wife and a son. 5. When the main character asked for a chocolate milk instead of a regular milk, the old man said to him "you must've gotten spanked a lot as a child." The main character asked him "how did you know that?" The old man replied "my son was just like you." 6. The old man asked the main character. "Does your mom gets good food made by your wife? The main character tells him he is not married, then the old man shows little bit of disappointment. (Probably felt bad for his ex-wife). 7. When the old man passes away there were no one, not even his family around him except for the main character. (The old man probably never got remarried after leaving his family to make money). 8. After the first game, the old man was the last person to press the button to either go on with the game or end the game. He pressed the button to end the game because he probably felt bad for his ex-wife who her son didn't even get married so he might've wanted him to go back to his mom. Also the old man might've wanted to give some money to his ex-wife so he finally visits her but finds her dead, so he couldn't give her the money. That is how the old man ran into the main character front of a convenience store near his home. Then the old man tells the main character he was in the area to meet an old friend who he owes gratitude. 9. The old man probably didn't wanted to just hand over the money to the main character since it was the main character's immaturity that his ex-wife lived a harsh life and died alone. The old man probably wanted the main character to earn his money and learn some valuable lesson. 10. While playing games the old man teaches the main character some wisdoms not to trust anyone, and while playing marble game he tells the main character that he is naive that he was lying about the number of marbles to win the game against him. 11. Almost at the end of the marble game the old man tells the main character that his son's birthday was June 24th. Well, the main character's birthday is April 26th. If you just write this in a number 624 vs 426. If you just switch the first and last number it is the same number. The old man probably got the month wrong just like the main character who is not good with remembering his daughter's and mom's birthdays. Also old man tells the main character about how he promised his son he was going to buy a robot toy as a gift for his son's birthday but forgot to do so just like how the main character got a wrong toy for his daughter. Father like son. They are so similar in that way. 12. Throughout the drama the old man was giving the main character hints that he is his father by telling him about how he spanked his son because he wouldn't drink regular milk, story about how he sneak peek to check his son playing, and telling him about his son's birthday. 13. When the main character gets out his mom's credit card, it shows his mom's name Oh, Mal Soon which is the same last name as the old man's. It could be that they have the same last name. Or, since this show was originally made for not just Korean audience but for international audience as well. For example in America, women adapts their husband's last name so maybe the director was using that idea to give a hint to the audience. 14. When the main character asks Sae Byeok for a knife to cut the ropes after they were thrown into the street she refuses to give it to him. He then says he won't betray her by promising under his mom's name but yet as soon as he cuts the rope he betrays her and asks her for his money. Also at the end of the drama, when the main character is about to get into the plane to see his daughter he turns around to join the game again. This shows how the old man and the main character are alike. The old man leaving his family to make money when he was younger and the main character leaving the plane to join the game instead of meeting his daughter. Thanks, hope ya'll enjoyed it.

The seemingly "innocent" old man had gotten a lot of people killed in his games because he wanted to feel like a kid again.

What if the Frontman is actually foreshadowing what the main character will become after winning the game? Remember that the Frontman also won the Squid Game in the past and somehow, he may have decided to stop everything the reason why he decided to become part of the organizers of the game, to know more from the inside. Seems like this is what the main character will do if there will be season 2, although instead of infiltrating the organization, he will play again. It's also possible that he shot his police brother in a non-critical spot for a higher chance of survival since he's not done yet with his purpose of completely taking down the organization behind Squid Game since his brother also has the evidence with him to reveal everything in public.

This show is really insane. This show had okay marketing before its release. And now, it's the biggest pop culture phenomenon right now, and the biggest Netflix hit series currently. Wow! So many questions, so much twists and turns and so much heartbreak. I really, really want a second season.

Personally I think a season 2 wouldn’t be the best idea, cuz this season ended on a pretty satisfying note for me. Like it was a cliffhanger but it had a very final feeling to it. This was the original script and I think it should be left that way.

I did think it was weird they never showed Il nam getting shot. They showed every other gruesome moment except his, but then I just forgot about it and thought he died lol

I honestly wanted them to do a prequel so I could see the old man again. He was my favorite character by far.

Why is no one talking about the marble game. Where Gi-hun’s marbles are not counted to decide if he really won. Plus he had one marble in his pocket on the bridge game? So how could they declare the old man lost? 🤔🤔

This might be a theory. 1. Essentially the entire Squid game starting from "Recruitment game" (slap game) all the way to the last are basically games of luck and choice. 2. The slap game or the Recruitment Game; Squid Corp has the same list of people they wanted to recruit, is just that at the beginning they've given a chance to what they'll become in the game. If a person chooses the RED paper card.. He/She becomes the guards, if the He/She chooses the blue, he/she becomes the player. Players Jacket (teal), Guards Jumpsuit (red) 3. Guards ranking: Circles are workers, Triangles are enforcers, and Squares are leaders 4. In the Marbles Game: Ill-Nam was supposed to be the weakest link (or the outcast kid) in the group since he is only the only old man (less desirable) to get a partner, however Kim Joo-ryeong (noisy annoying girl) was instead the outcast and escorted back to the waiting room. 5. In relation to Theory 4, the objective of the Marbles Game is to compete with the closest person; best friend, wife/husband that you know from the game to avoid player teaming up against the game in the Final Round (Rule 3: states that when everyone (majority of the player) agrees to stop the game, it must be stopped) which Gi-Hun attempted to use.

What a great show they did a really good job on this series was very surprised with how good the last episode was

Thinking back on the tug o war game, the old man's team would not have won based on his tips alone. It seems a precautionary measure to keep him alive was that the team did not die with the loss or fall, but rather when the rope was cut.

It's kind of messed up but also poetic that right before the marble game Gi Hun picks Il Nam as his partner because he thinks that's the only way the old man might have a chance to survive... even though pretty much every game up until then suggested that partnering up with him may get one or both of them killed... Turns out not only did he pretty much guarantee his victory through this act of kindness... it was the only way BOTH CONTESTANTS were gonna walk out of this game ALIVE. Good show. Very good show.

Honestly I don't think they should make a season 2. The story was told so well that anything added on after the fact would only sour what millions of people loved about it. Dont chase the money Netflix(yeah right) let this go out on the highest possible note. I do think though that a 2 hour movie might be a better canvas to tell a little more of the story without compromising what we've already seen.

Also, there is a hierarchy in the worker system. The more corners the shape on your mask has, the more powerful you are. The square has the most amount of corners (4) and is respected by all the other shapes. In fact, there is usually a group of a bunch of people with circles on their masks (which has 0 corners) and they’re being led by 1 guy with a square mask. I can’t seem to figure out a deeper meaning behind the corners/vertices.

As a society, we are all getting more and more desensitized to all forms of sadistic "entertainment" of all types. As time goes on for many, the WTF factor in Squid Game will be normalized...and like a drug, we'll all need a more potent dose...

The frontman reveal as the cop's brothers didn't make any sense, timewise. Seemed liked he was missing maybe a couple weeks, not 5 years. And the shot off cliff fall and final scene turn around at the airport are only to set up a season 2 which won't have the shock factor. Can't see it being anywhere near as good as season 1, plot holes aside.

What's odd is that I still shed tears for the old man on my second rewatch of the series in the Gganbu episode, despite knowing in hindsight who he really was. The actors are that good at displaying emotions.

Just like all great shows, the first season was so awesome, how can they possibly top it! It was brilliant! Netflix, the director and the writers will have to have many meetings to create a plausible next season storyline! It will definitely be a task! Fyi, the cop did not die when he fell off the cliff. His brother shot him in the shoulder because the is a survivable injury.

The pictures on the wall of the different games I didn’t notice that until the last episode when they were eating their garment meal. I was like those pictures looks like the games they been playing I caught that part. See I was watching this at work so I wasn’t really focused bc I had to keep pausing the show and lost track on some of the parts you explained but it all made sense wow! Believe the hype, with this Korean tv series. It’s actually one of the best series i’ve ever seen. Like Heroes (season 1-2), Game of Thrones (not season 8), Lost, and Breaking Bad kinda levels of quality tv. Better to watch Squid Games in Korean with subs.

My understanding of the end wasn't that sang woo sacrificed himself for gi-hun but that sang woo still wanted money above all- money for his mother. He came back the second time because he was going to kill himself anyways might as well take a shot at the money. If sangwoo and gi-hun walked away without the money it would have been a bigger eff you to the creators of the game (we're not just animals who will sacrifice ourselves for money) but in the end, money won
