If you watch any of the behind the scenes footage, you can see that the scene with Ji-yeong was particularly difficult for Jung HoYeon. Like you said - it was her first acting role, and this episode is heavy for someone with such little experience. She did an absolutely incredible job; but in the behind the scenes footage, repeatedly obtaining that extreme emotion to get the proper take for that scene was clearly taking its toll on both actresses.

Played them here in Brazil too, though the names might differ. "Into the hole" was the one where you made a circle in the sand/asphalt and had to aim your marbles to end up in there, preferably knocking out opponents' in the process? We used to visit repair shops to ask for metal ball bearings from broken parts, they were much heavier than a regular marble and would be hell to knock out. In my street we played for keeps, with the only rule being that someone's last marble couldn't be taken, it was super fun

the scene when ali was looking for sangwoo, he said "hyung"...netflix apparently didn't subtitled and emphasized the meaning of "hyung" because it may sound awkward in english...they just translated sangwoo...in korea "hyung" means "older brother"...and u don't get to casually just call someone older your hyung..u have to somewhat earn it, or be close to that older someone to be able to call a person hyung...sometimes they grant their juniors to let them use the "hyung" or it happens naturally....so imagine how hurtful it was to hear ali walk around like a little lost boy looking naively for his older brother, after realizing that he was betrayed...it felt more painful cause it felt like your own blood brother abondoned u....It BURNS

It's telling that Deouk-su; to some extent, is more upstanding than Sang-woo. As out of all of them he actually went to one of the guardsmen for assurance they could play another format with the marbles. While Sang-woo only chose to manipulate Ali, rather than actually consider his manipulative suggestion could actually be a possibility. Shows he was and is in it for himself only. Yet conceivably, he would know such an interpretation of the rules can be deduced, as he brought up clause 3 as a means to have a way out.

I wouldn't go that far. Nothing in the series suggests that Deok su has any compassion for his fellow participants. He definitely also was and is in it for himself only, there's no question about that. Sang woo is just simply a lot smarter, which allows him to be more cunning and insidious than Deok su. At the same time, though, isn't a big part of his trust in Sang-Woo BECAUSE he's an immigrant? Like yes Ali has a big heart, but part of the reason he's so quick to trust Sang-Woo in particular is because Sang-Woo is one of the first Koreans to treat him, an immigrant, with any decency. Ali's Korean boss doesn't pay his wages, Han Mi-nyeo (212) says racist things to him, etc. While Sang-Woo lets him use his phone, gives him bus fare, and refers to him using Korean honorifics, which is huge in Korean culture to my understanding. Ali is naturally trusting, but the fact that he, an immigrant, is treated with such respect by Sang-Woo is what leads him to trust him so much. Ali's trust and his status as an immigrant are pretty interconnected I'd say.

The old man knew the whole time. Remember, he only started "forgetting" who won what hand when Gi-Hun was about to lose. Like, literally, he lost his last marble and Il-Nam gave him the chance to change his answer. Also, extra heart break at Ali calling Sung-Woo "Respected older brother." They didn't have to do that to us. That wasn't ever necessary 😣😣😣

You’re making it sound like Netflix had anything to do with the production of the episode.

@@lalalarose8197 It did, or else the director would never had a chance to make his series unless it was a film considering how South Korea treats their drama with a certain censorship. 10 years of pandering and finally got Netflix.
