Now in this video we're gonna be answering all the big questions you have on Squid Game including why Il-Nam created it, what happened to the front man and also why Gi-Hun did things like dying his hair.
And it's beyond it looking great.
Now the first thing we're gonna be going over is why Il-Nam created the tournament. Though very little is actually known about the character, we learn in the series that when he was growing up that the character played lots of games as a kid. These included all of the things that we see in the show and this also explains why he's so good at playing them.
Il-Nam's entire life is centred around games and well, gambling. Even on his death bed he still attempts to play a final one with Gi-Hun in which he bets whether anyone will help a man passed out in the freezing cold. Just as he loses this he loses his life and everything is all tied together in such a way that it makes for an awesome final scene.
Now firstly I wanna just take the reason why he won at face value before going into what I think the hidden meaning behind it is. We learn that Il-Nam built a vast fortune for himself and because of this, money was never an object. Whatever he wanted to do he could but this also came with it's downsides. Nothing was out of his reach any longer, there was nothing else that would prove a challenge to him and thus everything became rather pedestrian. It reminded me a lot of an old twilight zone episode called a Nice Place To Visit due to the psychological aspects in it. That episode followed a man named Rocky who was shot dead after robbing a pawn shop.
In the afterlife he meets what appears to be an angel that tells him it's job is to give his heart whatever it desires.
Initially he believes he's in heaven because he wins everything single game that he plays and he's loved and adored by all that he comes across.
However as the episode goes on he realises he's in hell because everything goes his way no matter what and that the need to do better and improve has been stripped away from him.

Season 2 should be a prequel showing the first squid game. It would be interesting to see how they recruited the people in red.

oh someone made a theory about this, there isnt any proof on it but it sounded legit enough. but basically it was theorised that the people in red are the same as the players. remember in the very first ddakiji game, gi-hun had to pick either red or blue, and he picked blue and become a player. so the theory was that if he picked the red one, he would become one of the staff. espcially since the staff is exactly like them and have just slightly better living conditions but they were still trapped and if they, like the players, "broke any of the rules" (for example taking off their masks) they would also die. the theory sounded cool so thought id share it

When The Front Man tells Gi-hun to get on the plane "for his own good", it could hint that he had tried to infiltrate and put an end to the games himself before getting pulled completely into that world, and he's warning Gi-hun from making the same mistake.

Nothing really angered me about the episode. They were all faced with a difficult predicament. But there was one thing. The man who engaged in the game with his wife. Instead of sacrificing himself for her and throwing the game. Then, hanging himself and not even honoring her sacrifice.

It's hard to actually "hate" him for it, as we didn't see how they handled their game, and possibly they figured that a grown man would have a better chance of surviving the next game than a woman would so it would make sense to have him survive... that being said.. that dude should've protected his wife. Made me want to hate him to see him as the victor. Then he killed himself and it was like yeah I get it, I'd probably want to do the same thing but you are pretty much obligated to suck it up and do your best otherwise her death was for nothing

Oh Il nam, also can be translated to “1st man/son”, while Gihun’s mother’s name is ‘Oh Mal Soon’ which translate to “last daughter”. You can see Gihun’s mother name on the credit card. As they have same last name(Oh), likely they are sibling. The theory is Gihun is Ilnam’s son and was abandoned and left with Ilnam’s sister. This is backed up by Ilnam’s quote during meeting Gihun in front of grocery store. He was there to meet someone who he owe something. (Definitely not money..)

@@zprzo3703 my theory is that Ilnam did see his sister. And probably he also left the ⭕️🔺🟥 card at the door. However, I think Gihun’s mother already passed on at that point. This way Ilnam found more motivation to take care(or invite?) of his abandoned son. Also, Gihun’s mother was is super critical situation so I don’t think it’s a stretch to assume her death.

All the characters death was foreshadowed in EP.2 itself. Ali is eliminated because sang- woo took his marble the same as he took his boss money. Deok- su jumped on the bridge as he eliminated in the game by falling of the bridge. Sae-beok was died because she was stabbed on her neck same as she threatened someone with a knife on the throat. Sang-woo almost committed suicide on the bathtub and was eliminated by killing himself. also the oldman died from a brain tumor. Gi-hu swore on his mother's life and his mother died in the end.😢

At the marble game we all know that Il-nam acted that he was demented. The reason because of this was that he needed to be the last losing player. Otherwise the other players would have seen that he didn't die. So it wasn't only because of the neighborhood or anything, but it was all meant to stall some time.

The original plan was for him to not get picked for marbles, so he could walk away and the other players would have just assumed he was killed. But of course he had it covered if he was picked.

I think I’m fine with it either way. Great cliffhanger to lead into a potential next season with some sort of rebellion against the industry creating the games. However, if it ends this way also, I’m completely fine with it. Cool ending that shows almost everything you’d want to send off a show. Although I was slightly dissapointed in him leaving his daughter hanging again. Even if it is somewhat justifiable.

My concern would be if it goes in the route of most horror/suspense movies like Escape Room where it'll only focus on the games and no real progression; all the characters here were done so well in keeping you invested that it would be a challenge to do it again with new players now knowing only one can come on top. A reunion with his daughter would be great, finding out the cop survived the fall, and some more links to fallen characters.

If you watch Red Light Green Light carefully, a woman gets shot literally next to il Nam and he's not budged or shocked by seeing it (he even ignores the massacre and keeps smiling)...it's like he is "used to it" or seen it before, so he focuses on the game itself. It's another hint that he's involved.

Keep in mind he has to play that first game in such a way where it's not obvious (to us and other players) he won't be targeted by the snipers. He keeps his feet wide apart yet close to the ground so it is easier for him to maintain a still composure quickly.

they showed so many people get their brains blown out on this show, that if that cop was shot and fell to his death but they didnt show his body fall and meet the ocean water at such a velocity and resistance it actually was like falling onto concrete, then i don't believe the cop is dead. I mean they did the same thing with the old guy-didn't show it, didn't happen.

@@acesharpshooter1400 they didn’t, but later his dead body was shown, at the very beginning of the next episode (I believe episode 7?), showing that he was actually dead. however, il-nam’s body was never shown after he was supposedly killed, and he turned out to be alive. many people thought han mi-nyeo was killed as well after she couldn’t find a partner for the marble game, and she was still alive too. jun-ho’s body wasn’t shown either, making it very likely that he’s still alive, since there is no evidence in the show that he is dead

We get hints for the deaths of the main characters. Ali steals the moneybag = his marble bag gets stolen and he dies. Jang jumps of bridge = dies from the fall of the glassbridge. Cho tries suicide in the bathtub = he kills himself in the last game. Sae holds a knive to troath of the banker= dies from a knivecut on the troath.

If they had explained the elimination was from life, not just the game, I think a lot of lives would’ve been spared in the 1st game. It’s good that Il-nam gave everyone the chance to quit but over half the players died before this.

The old man was suppose to fake his death in round 3 cause no one would pair up with him. But then MC chose him, the old man couldn't possibly turn MC or (his son) down. That's why the crazy girl that no one paired with, gets a win pass.

Theory: the recruiter at the end of the show wanted Gi-hun to see him. They want Gi-hun to try to stop them so they can eventually get him to replace Ilnam. Just like In-Ho was able to join somehow after he won.

HS has conjectured that Ilnam might be his dad, that they could be setting up Gi-hun to come back and take over the games. Nothing about Il-nam is good. He looks down upon people, treats humanity like shit. He may have given them a chance to return to their lives but he still killed all those people with that red-green / light game. Betting on horses is not that same as betting on the lives of humans. He could’ve done something great with his money but chose this, what a sick and twisted old man. But round of applause for the actor who played Ilnam, that acting was spot on.

One thing I noticed is that when In-Ho shoots his brother, he shoots him in the shoulder rather than in the head or the hurt. This shows that he still has some loyalty to him and didn't want to deal a lethal blow to him but needed to show that he was strong and loyal to the game.

He even told the others to bring him back alive after he found out the identity of the intruder being his brother. Seeing how he even tried bargaining when he could’ve easily just killed him the moment they cornered him, he definitely still cares about his brother.

I think that the United Bank is over everything. Remember the last episode when he is called back to the bank and the manager tells them they have a special thing for “VIP” guests if he wants to join. Also when he is given the card with the money on it, it’s very hard to believe a bank would allow that type of deposit without it being traced back to a depositor or at the very least questioned with such a high deposit amount. And they open and deposit these ridiculous amounts on bank cards every year so the only way that wouldn’t raise eyebrows is if it’s the bank owners themselves involved.

I didn't appreciate this show immediately after watching it as much as should've, but as i thought about it for a couple of days I realised i had come across a really good and a worthwhile show, the foreshadowing, and the parallels of real life this show shows us as the viewers are just incredible.

Maybe this isn’t any master level movie, but finding tons symbolism and hidden meanings itself is another riddle that watchers can enjoy. Besides that my personal thought is that this movie done a great job on melting so many different genres with master-level transitions between them. You’ve just watched a comedy, tragedy, human drama, fantasy fiction, action, suspense,.. and am I missing something?

When they show the mother's credit card of the mother in the first episode, her family name is Oh. The old Man's name is Oh Il-han. His family name is Oh as well. The main character took his mother's maiden name. Also, remember when they are going through the recreation of Il-han's neighborhood in the marble game. And the main character kept saying ot really reminded him of somewhere he lived when he was really little? Also, they do specifically say in the opening that those boys created squid game. They made it up. Il-han had talked about how he used to watch his son play games and the son never knew he was watching? Squid game itself is only know by a handful of people who created when children.

One thing overlooked is the bomb that was shown to Jun-Ho by 28. You don't put it out there if it isn't going to be detonated at some point. In the end, everyone who works, and runs the game will die when the island is destroyed. The only question is who pushes the button.

Gi-hun being his son honestly makes a lot of sense because someone that sociopathic probably wouldn't care about abandoning his son, and Gi-hun is a bad father because he didn't have a father figure to look up to growing up thus repeating the cycle. Also I don't think the old man ever intended on being selected for the marbles game so his plan was probably to leave after that assuming he would have been the odd one left. and he let Gi-hun win so that he didn't have to play the next game...the next game also didn't seem as much like a childhood game like the previous ones did so maybe he didn't pick that game like the other ones

The bridge game was very much like games I had done on "team building" games in youth groups. Just not on a bridge high in the air for obvious reasons lol. But I think he mainly wasn't planning on participating in that game as an easy way to the next round as the person left automatically made it through.

Yes, I’m really into these kinds of social commentary/allegory. The English version of Squid Game is nothing special and pretty problematic (I’d be more willing to forgive these if weren’t for all the hype/native advertising). Learning about the cultural subtleties/mistranslations fixes some of the issues. One I can’t quite figure out is how did the doctor understood the next game would be tug-of-war from an egg? When I googled it, I just got articles about cellular “tug-of-war” in certain eggs, which the doctor might know, but doubt the guards would

I feel like somehow Gi-Hun was always destined to win. Looking back at events like when old man Ill-nam gave him the marble and said, 'YOU WIN" to the total amount of the prize money being, 45.6 billion South Korean won, of which when you take the first three numbers you get Gi-Hun's actual game number 456.

I liked the foreshadowing when Oh Il-Nam gives his sweater with the #1 to Seong Gi-Hun. Even though it was obvious he would win, being the protagonist, for me, it sealed the deal that he would.

I like the idea of Gi-Hun becoming one of the head orchestrators of the game, with the cop somehow working to take it down. Then season 1 can basically act as the antagonists origin story, and play on how absolute power corrupts absolutely.

An obvious element that I missed was that because these participants are compulsive gamblers, they would be far more likely to choose a horrific game than the rest of us. Their debt was hopelessly out of their ability to repay (many owed the US equivalent of a million dollars or more). That means loan sharks were coming after most of them - and would most likely murder them. It would be intriguing to see how 400 random strangers would have voted in comparison. I think even with the prize in the tens of millions of US dollars, the vast majority of us would decline.

My theory is that the old man IS the debt collector. He knows that he will never get his money and so held the "games" as a form of punishment. The protagonist was kind to him (something he didn't expect) and so forgave his debt and let him win. I don't think there was meant to be any survivors of this iteration of the games. I'm probably a 100% wrong but who cares. Ive not had this much fun discussing a show for a long time now.

*Wait, hold up....you forgot a massively important fact...* The Squid Games are held in many different countries! Remember episode 8 when the VIPs came and said that this year the games in Korea are really interesting implying that there are multiple nations where the tournament is held including previous years most likely in several locations around the world (however, they might have had a different name). This also begs the question...is there only one series of games per year? Think about it! I know it's a stretch but if we look at the files, there were multiple files per year and technically the VIP said the games in Korea this year were interesting (I'm paraphrasing here), possibly implying that he wasn't talking about all different games but referring specifically to the one held in Korea! *Oh yeah, one more thing...LOL, that marvel set is mine! ;)*

Nah, my theory is that front man wanted to come back to put an end to squid enterprises like gi gun does but he failed and they offered him the job as the frontman and he would be killed if he didn't accept, and so that's why he tells gi hun to not come back in the final episode as he doesn't want him to suffer the same fate

I binged the show Saturday/Sunday and was left completely shook. My stress levels were high. I started crying in like the last two episodes. I was a mess! Theory: The players' loan sharks were already paid. Remember when gihun didn't pay any money to his loan sharks after he won? I feel like the players we're somewhat 'bought' from the loan sharks, like horses for the race. And I also think the loansharks are somewhat included in recruitment process, cause if you think about it they all signed (I think) body consent form of something. Also why do they need to let them sign a form when they can just take them and harvest their organs before selling it to the black market. So I really believed they we're bought to play the squid game through the use of consent.

Something I noticed just now is that the room with all the record folders reminds me of the police unit's case-files rooms, which would hold missing people's details/unsolved cases. This could suggest that the players are the forgotten ones in society, hence why they were chosen to play (because police would be less likely to come search for them). But The Front Man also said 'you think the police are competent enough to come search for you?' which means this plan was already thought out about the players. Plus, they are deserted island, so chances of being found are slim. Lastly though, The Front Man was a player of the game but his file was removed from the folder and kept in a seperate drawer. A drawer that looks like a cage - this could show that The Front Man has locked himself away, removed himself from the folder (the folder meaning the rest of the group, also meaning society) and he is (on his own free will) trapped there.

What people never talks about and find peculiar, is the front man. He's supposed to be filthy rich but when his brother came to look for him, you can see he lives in a small apartment and forgot to pay rent. So I'm wondering if the apartment is just a show so nobody knows he's rich but why not pay the rent then. Or if he spended all his money and now being poor made him joined the games, a bit against his will, to get some cash.

I dont think the cop is dead tbh, you can see from one ep that when the cop shot the guy in the head and pushed him into the water, he floated immediately which means he is dead. But when the cop got shot and dropped into the water, his body did not float up like the dead bodies of the past eps. He probably survived but is wounded

i dont think he's dead either but when the cop shot and killed one of the guards, he fell from quite a low height meaning his body would show up on the surface faster than the cop falling off a cliff ya know? also iirc, the scene where they show the water after he dropped was very quick right? but i do agree that he aint dead

The frontman/brother did survive the shoulder wound, so that means the police officer survived, just faked his death, but we'll find out for next season which will probably come out next year or never 😅

The show was really as good as people said it was. The twists and turns from the betrayal that killed Ali to the identity of the frontman made the show really enjoyable. I hope season 2 reveals the origin of the game and how it started.

I just kinda assumed the old man was the man in charge from the red light green light game, he was enjoying it too much and its a twist used often enough to just kinda expect it now. The cops brother being the front man, When he showed up as a past winner I thought the brother would likely be one of the people working for the games, I didn’t specifically guess front man, but if he won and had all that money why would he never have gone home? So his brother would never have been looking for him.

I knew the Front Man was the cop's brother pretty early on because of how most of the scenes show the Front Man and his brother paralleling each other. Another hint was his extensive knowledge of the police like how he knew the fire arms were from the Korean Police suggests he was a former cop and possibly his brothers were partners. Also I didn't catch his brother showing up as the winner as I couldn't read Korean.

Fun Fact: Il Nam got out of the game before the stepping stones game because 1. He had to welcome the VIPs because he was the host 2. He didn't continue because the federation was scared that Il Nam's dementia will make him loose in the stepping stones game

SPOILER AHEAD : II-nam was actually right in the end he said that people are selfish ,as in the marble game II- nam was betrayed by his best friend . Ali was also betrayed in the marble game by his teammate implying that people only care about themselves even if you are innocent.

Yeah it was an awful plot twist that made no sense and was incredibly predictable. It was obvious that the front man was someone who was important or related to the brother (why else would they make it so dramatic) and the only one important to the brother was his brother.

Theory: gihun has had no problems with the loan sharks after the games (as u can see he didnt spend any money of the 45.6 billion won and he didnt lose a kindey and a eye (if i remember that correctly) and anyways the gangster fat guy maybe had something to do with it and since hes dead now the loan shark wouldnt have to chase after him anymore

I also confuse with the loan thing. He should've pay the debt right after he won the game. His debt is A LOT. Maybe he has a job to cover the debt, but still it will take a long time to pay it all back. If Il Nam is behind all this, just to make him play the game, that will be crazy. Cuz remember when he fight 1:1 with the man at the train terminal, he knows everything about him, even his financial situation. I don't know...

I don’t think il nam was trying to find an heir. He couldn’t have chosen gi hun because he showed his morality each step of the way. He wouldn’t have been a good front man and il nam knew that. He asked about the homeless guy to show gi hun, people are horrible and to justify his game with the questions gi hun was asking. But gi hun had faith, the entire time he was amazing, from calling on the guards for the man beaten to death and 067, to choosing an old man as his partner, (I wouldn’t class tricking the man, it’s life or death at this point and he was torn about it), to finally asking to quit knowing he was going to win. And not even using the money either. The relation theory gives a reason to why he was chosen but I think finding his gunban, il nam was trying to find his faith in humanity. And wanted to ease his conscious before dying.

@@edlawn5481 Although I have changed my thoughts slightly. Maybe he was at the beginning, trying to find an heir AND find his faith. I read a comment that reminded me of Il-nam giving his jacket to Gi-hun and that definitely felt like a pass the torch moment. But as the games went on, I think he knew that Gi-hun wouldn't do that - even down his last dying breath.

The Frontman DID win the game, 100%. In 2015, Player 132. Hwang Jun-ho found a manifest of previous winners, that's how he knew to look in the 2015 folder. Also, the bit of choosing red or blue is NOT true. You can see when they show them the multiple videos of people playing that people there also chose red.
