People always talk about how it’s so unlikely and unrealistic that the main character always wins. However, have you ever considered that they’re the main character because they won?

The guy who calculated the odds of which glass tile was safe is so underrated

The guards state "If you just follow the rules, you can leave this place _safely_ with the prize money we promised." This is a lie! When the glass bridge exploded at the end of the game, Sae-byeok was mortally wounded from a shard of the debris. A chance event like that breaks the integrity of the game, where everyone is granted equal opportunity. It felt way too much of an outlier to ignore.

Honestly at that point selling a kidney is just the better option

Reason 1 why you wouldn't survive: *You are NOT the main character*

Trust me after watching the show for myself I know exactly why I wouldn’t survive Sang woo would honestly find some way to make sure I die

Not sure if people understand how difficult sugar honeycombs is, considering that the show made it seem like even a triangle is easy in 10 minutes. The sugar isn't airtight, there are tiny holes in them, just like any other breaded item like a crouton. No matter how careful you are, it might just break on you for zero reason if it was cooked in an unlucky fashion. Good luck doing that in a timed environment, ain't no way 80% of the the people lose on that one realistically

It was never clear how many people could win the game... logically, if only one person could win then it's not worth it...but I was under the impression, from the way the game was presented, that there could be numerous winners at the end.

Remember, when signing a contract for a game, ask what they mean by "eliminate".

It’s obvious they thought more than one person would get out alive. They talked about sharing prize money, winning together, etc.

Notice how every single person who got pushed on the glass stepping stones got pushed onto the wrong tile? So getting pushed has an 100% death rate. Therefore, if someone comes to push you, just jump to the other side, it saves you 100% of the time :P

The panicked running away in red light green light was very realistic. That’s exactly what I would do and I would get killed in Round 1. Those who think otherwise might be forgetting the terrifying psychological shock of realizing that “eliminated” meant murdered. Would you really be able to make that adjustment?

If i was in the squid game, i'd envy those who died by headshots in green light, red light. They got as good as it gets a death.

If I would have survived first round, I wouldn't have came back when given the second opportunity.

This was more of a recap instead of explaining why you wouldn’t survive.

The best unwritten off rule was that an inside employee can profit on the dying bodies via "organ harvesting" the Rouge pink guys would've made bank if they didn't cheat, heck the game maker said "I don't care what you do to those bodies, cheating is unacceptable".

I personally know that I won't survive this game because I would die from the pressure. But there are people who want to assume that they are the main protagonist and will survive these death games with flying colors and assume that cold hearted trickery, betraying and murder will be an easy thing to accomplish. But they are completely underestimating how strong fear and panic can affect your ability to think. People in these movies are "dumb" because they are in a state where they couldn't think properly because of the stress their minds will be in. The main thing that's different from these characters and us is that we have the foresight on what's gonna happen unlike them who are completely unaware of what will happen. I want to rant a little bit longer but I think this is enough to express how, at times, I can get annoyed with people who think that these will be a walk in the park.

Surviving the games is a torture in itself, the dread of what comes next and knowing your demise is out of your control. It comes down to luck, and that's it. The marbles game was the cruelest cause at that point you choose someone you trust.

I feel like a big problem with the squid game is that there's an unwritten rule that there can only be one winner. Because of this the best strategy would be to kill as many people as you can so you can have the best chances of survival. This unwritten rule is enforced by how none of the armed guards tried to stop a player being beaten to death and players killing each other in-between games were actively encouraged. This unwritten rule is very disingenuous because the rules were that you only have to survive the 6 games to earn the money, not that you can be the only one left standing. If this is the case, then the best strategy would be to team up with other players so everyone had the best chances of survival. But the nature of the games and the organization behind them seem to encourage betrayal through the unwritten rule.

Once enough beds are gone you can actually see the games painted on the walls. Once you know what's left based on the paintings if you've survived this long, you can actually have a strategy

This is so random, but I just thought about how the vent in the bathroom that was left unscrewed and foreshadowed was never brought up again.

The luckiest people may be the 7 percent who willing did not return after red light green light. Survived, and could expose the story to the press for some compensation

I feel like, if a sane person somehow survived this ordeal, and came out a winner, there would still be detrimental effects on your mental state. If you are a normal person, watching over 400 people die before your eyes for various reasons, how could you go back to normal living? That would be soo awful living but knowing what you know.

The boss says the game needs to be equal and fair, but it’s unfair that he turned off the light after finding out that guy can tell between regular and tempered glass. You can’t just change the game in the middle of it to make it harder just cuz someone is good at it, he didn’t cheat or break any rule, so apparently you can’t survive cuz they “cheated” to make sure u don’t survive

As far as the why of why hasn't this game be revealed to the masses, I think the simplest explanation is the fact that not many people would believe you even if you tried to expose it.

I would've died in Red Light, Green Light, either because A.) I was one of the slowest runners in every year of P.E. Class, and would likely not reach the finish line in time, or B.) I am hypersensitive to certain loud sounds in real life like gunshots or fireworks, as soon as the shooting from the doll, started my body would be uncontrollably shaking by the time she calls out red light.

You don't need plot armor to win, you need to be Sang-Woo but kill Gi-Hun before the final game instead of Sae-Byeok. Kill the healthy guy with his back turned, then your opponent is a dying girl and you're virtually guaranteed to win.

There is really not such a thing as “fight or flight”. In nature it is: fight, flight or freeze.

Everyone thinks they would survive the first game, but I garuntee you, at least half of them, if they heard someone get shot and realized they were death games at that moment, they would react, jump, cover their mouth, retreat, all of it.

I talked about this a lot with my friends at school and they said that they would survive the first game without a doubt which I know is not true at all. They would lose the first round immediately after realizing that being eliminated means getting murdered, same thing goes for me. The first game is more realistic because that’s how I would legitimately react, I would be to scared to move which means I would die once the time ran out.

Lol, the IRS joke is actually a good point. You wouldn't be able to use that money for long without authorities being suspicious of how you got it. The moment you put that in a bank you'll have to justify it.

Another thing with the glass bridge, I'm not saying in any way that I could pull this off let alone making it that far into the games, but it's something I've thought as possibility: At the start, have all players hold their shoes in their hands (no rules were said to actually leave them behind). Throw the shoe as hard as you can at a glass panel, whichever doesn't break is likely to be the tampered glass. You can check the other panel with your remaining shoe. Alternatively, you could sit down, reach as far as you can without falling and kick the glass in front as hard as you can with the back of your foot. Players can pass their shoes to the front if the leader runs out. _"You have 16 minutes to cross the bridge."_ Why not even just monkey crawl along the metal bars holding the glass? It's also totally possible the guards won't allow it and might even kill you for trying. I'm saying jumping to your probable death is the last thing I'd do with 16 minutes. I'd consider every possibility that comes to my head.

Finally, someone has made a Saw/Jigsaw comparison! While it’s not all the same, the elderly, sick man that “wants to play a game” is definitely comparable!

The reason people did this was because their lives were worthless to them. Most of us here have SOMETHING to hold on to. A reason to go on. They didn't. And that's the point. When you're at the end and somebody gives you an out, you take it. They even tried walking away but couldn't.

Whenever I watch a death game, I know I'd never survive. I'm such a coward and can't handle physical tasks. Even if by some god's grace I managed to survive even one task, the glass bridge would be the ultimate roadblock to me. I'm so scared of heights I can't go up one flight of glass staircases, nevermind a glass bridge I know is trying to kill me

Though it seems the chances of survival is 1 in 456, I will argue that the odds are slightly smaller than that. It's actually possible for all players to die. If not for plot armor, Gi-hun should have died on at least 3 occasions during game.

I also believe that every single game has a simpler solution to solve the problem. For example, when everyone took off their shoes you could take them with you and throw on a glass (since its probably fragile) to check if its tempered or regular

The marble episode was awesome. I like how it showed the warm side of the main character while also making it clear that he's ultimately going to save himself when it comes down to it. To me, that was one of the better episodes of TV I've seen in a while.

My view on the main character “being lucky”: I think that the plot focuses on a certain character BECAUSE they eventually do win in the ending of the show. Not the other way around. I think Gi Hun is the main character BECAUSE he wins in the end, and the plot would only be interesting if the main character wins (in this kind of show anyway). What I mean is that in this show, if the main character dies in the first game, would the plot be as interesting? No. For example, if the main character was that one guy who died in the first game, it would be a short ass series that wouldn’t be interesting at all. I think that the plot focuses on the person that wins the game to make the series not boring. See? The main character isn’t LUCKY, the main character is the one being focused on in the series. Saying that, however, the plot would’ve been just as interesting if Sang Woo or Sae Byeok won, but that’s only because they made it to the end as well as Gi Hun. Think about it, if Sae Byeok or Sang Woo died early, they wouldn’t have been nearly as interesting. It’s the same with the main character. If they died early, the show would not be interesting at all. The show could’ve chosen Sae Byeok or Sang Woo, but they died in the end, and we wouldn’t have seen all the stuff that happened after the last game AND there wouldn’t be a SECOND SEASON! That’s what I think, u can disagree if u want 😊

To everyone: Don't forget that at its core this show is trying to say something about human nature and its flaws, on both sides of the game, the rich and the poor. The greed. The 'me before you' mentality. Survival mode. Like, sure there could've been more than one winner, but in a situation like this, you might not even think about that because you're so focused on winning and thereby staying alive that you might forget to be truly strategic. Also, you don't know what to expect, and the fear and confusion will change you and cloud your judgment. You would become primal, and your worst side would come out even for the best of people. A lot of things could have been handled differently and better and lots more people could have survived if not for the flaws in human nature.

Yeah, I was feeling fairly cocky about the games at first. The solo games pretty much rely on your self control, ingenuity, problem solving, etc. Then the games shifted into "Yeah, no half of you will for sure die, it's basically just luck at this point" Then the damn platform game came up which statistically was designed to kill you if you picked the wrong number... like, fuck me for sure at that point.

You have less of a chance of survival than the Hunger Games in the Squid Game, I would rather be in the Hunger Games where at least your survival is influenced by skill

The glass exploding seems like a flaw in the game, why wouldn't they clear the players first. Also imagine betting on one of the players only for them to win the second to last game but die because someone wanted exploding pains of glass.

The behind the scenes videos are very interesting. For the Tug of War game the teams didn’t compete against each other they were actually pulling a robot and then the scenes were put together.

I don’t remember them ever stating only one could win. You just had to survive all the games, if more people survived the glass bridge, the teams would get bigger when they played the squid game, meaning a team could potentially win? Splitting the price between them

Seems like the strat to win here would be to just become a serial killer and off as many opponents in their sleep as you can between rounds.

The only game I think that should've been much easier to win was the glass bridge. No one tried to test the rules like people did in other games. Why didn't anyone try and straddle the middle support of the bridge? Or cross on all 4s? That's a known tactic for dealing with thin ice: distribute your weight across a broader area. Even if the guards may have executed you if you tried this, I'm just surprised no one at least thought to attempt it or ask a guard. We saw people hide behind others in redlight/greenlight. People lick the cookie right in front of the guards. And people choose any method they wanted to collect marbles. I'm convinced that there were other ways to get across that bridge that likely wouldve been allowed given the previously established liberal interpretations of other games.

There's an old saying, "If it sounds too good to be true, it ain't". These where desperate people looking to get out of hardship, so when offered the chance to make billions of dollars playing a game, of course some are going to take it. I think my main take away is that we shouldn't bank on some sort of lucky break to get us out of poverty or hardship but rather, perhaps we need to be there for each other and build something that might be worth living in. I haven't played the lottery in a long time, cause at the end of day I was blowing money for a one in a million chance that I could be rich, Squid Game is kind like the lottery in that sense, you probably aren't going to get what you want but instead of getting shafted 10 bucks you get cremated.

The marbles game does not require 20 marbles. It requires you to have the other player’s ten marbles without violence. Each pair could swap their marbles and both satisfy the win criterion.

Tug of War: “For a large majority of us, a lot of us are going to be falling to our deaths.” It’s literally half. The odds aren’t 50-50, wrestlers have higher odds than old men, but as for the number of people eliminated it is literally half.

A few people watching this video would survive, I guess. Not me, because I wouldn't have gone back after the red light/green light if I lived through it. I know my limitations, and I'm not going to be able to handle the sound of the gunfire. At best, I'd freeze completely.

I think the ironic part is that the competition itself is set up to where multiple players can win, so a lot of the backstabbing really didn't need to happen. My biggest problem with the show itself is it went with the cliche ending of only one winner.

I think I'd be okay in round 1. I've been in the middle of shoot-outs in my neighborhood and my automatic reaction is freeze and obey. Unfortunate for then, but very useful for a murderous red light, green light! Then I'd immediately die in round 2. I didn't know the game and before they revealed it, I thought the umbrella was super cool, so I would have picked that and got shot. At least it's in the head and an immediate death :)

Red Light, Green Light would be easy to play. First, once the game is explained, make your way to one of the walls and lean on it. It helps stillness and allows you to move however quick you want. Preferably you want the right side since the robot's head turns from the left. This gives you ample time to stop and still your body.

And if I somehow do win, I would have PTSD and would like go INSANE I don’t have trouble watching gore but in real life that would leave ANYONE messed up. honestly.

Although I had it spoiled for me (not by this video, thank goodness), I still went back and watched it. I have to say, Korea has some interesting shows and a great writing team.

Depending on my fight, flight, or freeze response, I’d die in game 1 playing red light, green light. It would come down to luck for me in that moment if I’m being honest.

There wasn’t a rule about only one person winning, theoretically speaking only one game splits you in half before the glass so 228. then you substract 16 and just believe every person who moves forward one dies, 214. And then the last game would split you in half again, 107. So theoretically it was fully possible for the money to be split 107 ways, then you can do your own calculations about how many ppl who would’ve died would’ve left the game and how many alive would’ve left so I’d say with all things said and done it’s a good chance for it to be 50/456 chance instead of 1 Edit: 456/2 for tug of war, 228. 228/2 for marbles, 114. Glass had 18 so, 96. Squid game would prob split you in half, 48. Take account for idiots and ppl who would’ve survived leaving, it’d be more like 20/456 chance of winning.
