Fiji: The little island with heart, against the bigger nations with cash. So in the light of their historic win over France, how did Fiji develop the passion for the game that inspired their latest scalp, and how far can it drive them forwards?
If you've enjoyed any of the channel's content, you can also support Squidge Rugby on Patreon by visiting / squidgerugby , and help me stock up on Daleks so I can do a full 16-man scrum next time.

And finally, even though I forgot to mention it in the video, Malawi are trying to get a national 7s team off the ground for the first time ever, and need help to get them to the African Rugby Championship. You can give them a hand at www.backabuddy.co.za/malawi-7....

Truth. I played for a few years with and against Fijian teams and everyone, including the 40 year old, 21 stone prop, thinks they're a back. And that's because everyone, including the 40 year old 21 stone prop plays like a back. With just a teensy bit more structure, any structure, they'd be incredible. I loved it when they put one over against the French and would love to see them do a few more teams.

The IRB really needs to fix the bias in international rugby. Giving the world cup to Japan to spread the game was an excellent idea, and I hope it's a success, but most teams outside of tier 1 are effectively locked out of fixtures and don't get anywhere near the game time required to see progress. The island teams luckily live, eat and breathe rugby so can still be competitive, but there's little chance of any new teams being given a chance. If we are serious about spreading rugby, we need to leave this $$$ mindset whereby Wales for example HAS to play most of the southern hemisphere bigwigs every single year without fail. Why don't the big teams do international rugby a favour for a change and play the USA, Georgia, Romania etc in their home countries. Give those nations a big fixture to ignite rugby there. As it stands rugby is locking itself in a vacuum which is not good for our sport in the long run.

They love the collision aspect of league and union. I don't know what the NRL would do without them! PS. I'm not sure if money has anything to do with success in rugby at a national team level. You might explain that in another video. Best wishes.

Do a video on Birmingham rugby tbh. It's a really sad story the west Midlands used to be a stronghold of rugby and have some of the top teams in Europe, but recently rugby has faded.

@@barryirlandi4217 yeah, in general rugby has done a poor job at reaching out to communities of asian descent. I can only think of one asian-british player in union.
