Solder a resistor on the pot to change the value. Its much cheaper than buying new pots. For example a 150k resistor will reduce a 500k pot to 250k. Go to electrical supplies shop and try different value resistors untill you find the ohm rating on the pot that you want. Solder the resistor between the 2 outer lugs of the pot and thats it !

That's a great idea Malcolm, I hadn't thought of that before. I am 100% going to experiment with that one for sure and it is indeed far easier to try and then remove if I don't like it. Thanks!

Bridge is fine. Locktite the height screws on it, shim the neck so the bridge sits high. It will stay in tune.

Have one just like yours that we are using at this exact moment for work travel so we won’t be heartbroken if something happens to it. Agree with your assessments and in our opinion the stock pickups feel somewhat compressed, overly midrangy and missing some top end so glad to see you have replacements in yours.

I used furnace tape that has conductive adhesive for the bridge posts. Then the bridge ground still conducts through the bridge for sure.

Nice review. I just don’t have any tuning issues. I’m not doing dive bombs on the tremolo. I’m just doing flourishes but having no issues. I’ve got around 20 guitars including a couple of high end US fenders and I’m loving this Squier.
@AudiomoMusic
@AudiomoMusic 2 жыл бұрын
The problem is the bridges are notoriously inconsistent and a significant amount of people that buy these have the bridge posts recess into the body without using loctite to fix the issue. This still happens to this day on some guitars, even the 40th Anniversary Jazzmaster I just demo'd. You're fortunate to not have one that had that issue, I'm just amazed Fender has been aware of it for years and hasn't addressed the issue.

$320 is an absolute bargain. I'd really recommend putting some electric tape on the bridge posts, it will greatly help with the tuning stability once you start using the trem a bit more.

Hey James I appreciate it! If you are fine with tweaking offset guitars especially the bridge on this thing you can make it a player, but the problem is out of the box it's just going to be a gigantic headache regarding tuning stability.

i been playing Jaguars for years I have a 1962 abd 1965 Jauar guitars 2017 I purchase the Squire Fender VM Jaguar they all sound the same as to the bridge it suppose to float with the tremolo arm. This the feature employed by Leo Fender The Bridge has to be set up I have no problems with strings flying off the bridge saddles. Jaguar guitars are set up that way I have a kink of replacing parts on a guitar that was originally designed. All players are different I am 80 years old been picking for 75 years. These Squire guitars are great for the money they can not be beaten and still get the same quality of the Fender original. In 1962 My Jaguar cost me $369.00 A months salary for most Americans at that time so you can amaigin the cost of these things. Lucky I had a job working for Union Oil Co. Most peoiple who had these guitars came from parents that had money to buy them All Fender guitars were built to Order if you paid cash for it half went down when the guitasr was completed you paid the remainder Some times you will see a floor model but not for sell back then Now days a lot of oppertunity of owning anything Fenderr makes as long as youi have the money

I bought a CV Jag and really didn't like it, especially the bridge pickup. I changed it with a Hot Rails, and still didn't love it. Finally found a buyer for it. Still, there's something nagging me to get a Japanese Jag some day...
@AudiomoMusic
@AudiomoMusic Жыл бұрын
I feel like with the CVs unless you are really happy with it out of the box you're just going to enter a money put that will end up costing more than just buying a japanese one would cost to begin with. I still have this guitar because it was a gift for my kid on christmas but the only part that is original is the body. They really are not the greatest instruments imho.
@somethingelsedoesmatter

@@AudiomoMusic that's fair. I put an hour of work into each of my CV guitars, and then they played and felt pretty good. But I won't miss that Jag. I loved my CV Jazzmaster, though, and recently got a Japanese Traditional that I love even more (except the pickups, which I think I may replace down the road). I got the Squiers originally because I wasn't sure if I would prefer the Jag or Jazzmaster. Now I know!

What's strange is the fact that my Classic Vibe Jazzmaster also suffered from the issue of the bridge getting stuck towards the front of back. Not sure what causes this. Shimming the neck helps, but not entirely. Might be the internal shape of the thimbles on the CVs in particular. Or maybe the strings glide across the bridge too easily, when they should actually stick to the bridge and force it to rock (like with the threaded saddles). My Fender jaguar never had this issue, with or without a shim. It has American thimbles and an American threaded vintage style bridge, which leaves it plenty of room to rock back and forth as it should, but it always returns to center no matter what.
@AudiomoMusic
@AudiomoMusic 3 жыл бұрын
It's quite literally size of the thimbles on this specific bridge on this specific model. For whatever reason Fender did not go the traditional sizing, thus creating all these problems. I thought mine was a one off because I couldn't believe it myself, but after talking to people a whole hell of a lot smarter than I am with these they did the measurements and came to the same conclusions. Jags and jazzmasters get a bad reputation by people that don't know how to set them up or troubleshoot them but like you said, when it's done right with the rights part they work flawlessly even with major trem abuse.
@JulianA-tr6pt
@JulianA-tr6pt 3 жыл бұрын
@@AudiomoMusic Size, or I was thinking possibly the angled "dip" in the bottom to help center it. I had the MIM thimbles + bridge, which always returned to center as well. These thimbles were very narrow. The USA of course is considerably wider, and there's no issue there either. Never measured them to see how the CV stacks up though. I recall them being pretty large with lots of space around the bridge posts.

Great review, I am thinking of buying my first guitar and I am a little undecided, can I play punk with this guitar?
@AudiomoMusic
@AudiomoMusic 3 жыл бұрын
I'm going to be totally honest, on a Jaguar you can play punk 100%.. However with how hard you're gonna be hitting the strings playing it and all of the palm muting that requires you to kind of lay your hand on the bridge I wouldn't get this exact guitar because of the issues with that. If you want to stick in the squier line you can absolutely pull off punk with a mustang, it's a short scale like this and easy to play but is way more stable.

The problem I have with that guitar is that trem use puts the strings slightly out of tune. I changed the bridge to a Mastery and a luthier worked on the nut but trem use is still a detuning problem. Also string action is still too high because if I lower the strings more they choke when bent.
@AudiomoMusic
@AudiomoMusic 3 жыл бұрын
Have you considered getting a .5 shim from stew mac? Will run you about 9 dollars and makes a world of difference for the choking at the higher frets. It's frustrating we have to do all this work to make these guitars stable, especially when you consider they run about $500 new these days. Once they are dialed in they can be great, but it's a headache.
