Vintage is such an amazing brand. Very friendly staff and communicative. Wish they were well received in the states, not enough retailers sell or carry there instruments.

Maybe because of Squier/Fender putting some pressure on those retailers...(?) Because they know Vintage's quality is good enought to compete (?)

Thing sounds killer with the flats, it's more of a V54 as the tummy and arm cutaways were introduced in 1954. I kinda need a 54 Pbass in my life...

Aha! That would be a more apt name then. Thanks for the wisdom!

It sounds killer, I love the aggresiveness and the unrefined sound that the non split pickup produces (I think Leo got it right the first time). I can't wait to see the review of the v4!!

Been playing a Vintage V4 icon Precision for a few years now. Highly recommend. Had compliments from other bass players as well. The bass just seems to 'sing'. They're beyond the classic vibes and closing on the cheaper Fenders. Pretty sure I couldn't pick one from the other in a blind playtest. As for resale value, that was a bonus: bought it second hand, with case, for 180 euros. Very hard to beat.

Amazing! I’d say the top end Squiers beat the low end fenders anyway!

The belly cut and forearm cut would make it a 54 body. That's when Leo did those contours. Interesting bass, not available in the states it seems. I think the name of the brand is holding them back. If you google "vintage bass" you don't get Vintage bass. A Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound single coil or their Stinger (Dusty Hill and Sting played it) will bring the low end and in my opinion are an improvement over the 51 sound. I really like the low end thump. I'm not a fan of the QP in general, but their single coil sounds really good. For bass I'd like to see, a Vintage VS4. I am really curious to how they made that one.

Just to clarify, the "Thumb rest" is placed there to rest your fingers whilst playing the strings with your thumb according to Leo Fender's original idea. Otherwise, nice videio.

Fret sprouts have nothing to do with factory fret jobs, its the quality (greenness) of the wood used and occurs after production. The wood shrinks as it dries but the metal doesnt.

value for money, do some minor setup & ready to gig... all the "vintage" bass specs just reminds me of my squier CV 60s pbass coz i also changed the squier stock hardware to the wilkinson (WBBC 4 brass saddles bridge + WJBL-200 machine head) 😂 except for the pickup, i just love the stock pups from squier

I am interested in vintage basses. I like pj basses so would go for the V42. If you can get a hold of one for review that would be nice. This V51 also sounds great. Nice review, thank you.

Hi Jonny. Happy New Year! Im a left hander. I dont see the Squier 50s PB available as a left hander, so the single coil 50s RI options are the Harley Benton PB50, the Sire D5 or this Vintage (though the Sire is actually a split coil pretending to be single. What would your choice be, out of the three?
@JonnyDibble

Honestly, I like the Sire and Harley Benton! The HB was incredible for the price. The necks on the passive sires are very very hard to beat though 🔥

Hello Jonny, thanks for the great vid. i have bought a second (or third) hand Vintage V4 (split coil Precision) that I like a lot ! It is resonnant and has a great tone with flats in my opinion. I have removed the gloss on the neck, shielded the cavity and changed the pots. It is also very light (3.7kg). I didn't have the opportunity to try one of these V51. Did you notice if it this one is particularly light or heavy ? thanks
@JonnyDibble

I think Vintage brand guitars and basses are an absolute bargain on the used market - you get a LOT for your money. Even if they need a bit of a seeing to from a luthier, they're worth the investment.
