Idk if I'd call that intelligence. It's just watching it move and aware that it's going slowly enough for it to get there. Experience doesn't necessitate any in depth understanding of the mechanics... if it was "smart" it would've realized it couldn't climb it in the first place.

@hashaskinner I know what you mean, but I'm not sure if that innate sense of relative speed rally qualifies as "smart"; in sure with how quick they are, the world kinda feels like when time slows down for fighters in movies Also, even the ability to perform complex tasks isn't REALLY "smart"; slime molds find their way through mazes, but we still don't consider them intelligent. Capable isn't necessarily cognizant. But squirrels are pretty crafty. It really just depends on the definition of intelligent. We use the same word for many different things.

They are super friendly once you've earned their trust...! Titch, Screechy and Stripy and their friends demand peanuts from me every morning..! Why are people against feeding the squirrels? I don’t care if they eat from my bird feeders. I enjoy watching them.

Because if a squirrel can reach it a rat makes ist also. And they hoard it. I had a costumer, which I was supriesd to see her again. She bought a 35 tits balls the day bevor. She didn't close the bucket tightly enough and a squirrel emptied the whole thing in one day 😂😂😂 I thing the squirrel found her kind of treasure 😂

There's one squirrel who keeps my apartment balcony as a closely guarded secret. So I have a really good bird food mix in my feeder including dried meal worms, nuts, seeds, and all that kind of good stuff birds love. Well, one squirrel has figured out how to jump from the pine tree to my balcony and he sits there and eats whenever he likes. I know it's only one squirrel doing it because the food would be gone a whole lot faster if he had friends/rivals coming to the feeder. He sits there and eats to his heart content, provides my cat some very much deserved mental stimulation, and I love watching the little critter too. He's a beautiful addition to the flocks that visit my balcony. So every morning I get to watch the songbirds, blue jays, and squirrel come to my feeder to eat. Btw, blue jays and squirrels alike LOVE peanuts still in the shell. Bought a five pound bag, gone in 2 days flat. I now have a slow feeder so the blue jays have to work at it to get a peanut because they will fly away with 2 or 3 at a time

Then watch your own squirrels eat from the bird feeder !! (squirrels are not birds !!)

It's not about feeding them or not feeding them. It's about them ruining feeders. They never stop eating. They hog the whole feeder and then chew it and break it. I've tried a ton of different feeders and they break them all. All while I'm feeding them seperately on the ground. They have PLENTY of food yet still want more. Squirrels don't leave any for birds. I even have to feed my chipmunks separately.

Because then the birds can't eat and that's who you put the food out for I presume

i found the best way to keep the squirrels out of my bird feeders is to give them a couple of their own. ever since i did that they've stayed out of the birdfeeders.

Pam all over the stand....I watched several squirrels try to hit my feeder....they jumped up...slid right down. Began wiping paws on grass.

How clever was that!!?? Animals never fail to surprise me I think we , definitely me, can sometimes under estimate an animals shrewdness, not their intelligence and emotional side I’d never question those .
