I had the same problem. I have a birdhouse on top of a 18 steel pole. Then about 5 ft below I have a feeder. The squirrels would jump from the fence to the pole. So I greased the pole. Now my neighbor sits on his patio in the morning drinking his coffee and watches the squirrels jump to pole and slide down....over and over again. He says it's his morning humor.

Man, the sound track takes me back to the 70's I could just keep the sound track on repeat, grooovin' through the day. We're making the squirrels evolve. They'll be ready to take over when Humanity destroys itself. Edit: Smoke coming out of those little ears, you can see the electrons flowing in that little brainiacs skull.

There's a really easy way to deal with squirrels raiding bird feeders- just get or make a feeder for the squirrels. Put it in a place of easy access to them, filled with peanuts, and they will ignore the bird feeders. Squirrels are lazy, and take the path of least resistance to food, unless you try to make it difficult for them, and then they become relentless.

'Zakly! [Squirrelese speak for 'Exactly']. They are so clever and industrious. My parents' back yard is very much like Chunk's [the epic groundhog '20 social media viral star!] Heaveny haven with many familiar squirrely tenants. One in particular has a relationship with my father (mechanical engineer) where it's respectful kindred souls' 'Innovation Outdoor Lab' (i.e. playground). Even though Dad's furry has a nice lunch from a wide open pile of goodies with his yardmates, little dude usually heads over to check out latest modified contraption and does a bit of exercise. I could swear that he looks a tad disappointed if it looks the same. 🙁😂🤣🐿❤🙏 - he stares at it much longer. New cool challenge is met with a flying leap! #NerdBromance

Squirrels can be pretty friendly little creatures. I started feeding one at my brother's house, went on for a long time. He got to the point he would climb right on my knee and take food from my hand. They problem came when he told his friends about me. It made me nervous to go out in the morning and see 15 jittering squirrels all sitting in the driveway not afraid of me. Waiting for a hand out. My brother was pissed 🤣🤣🤣

Just got ourselves 2 bird feeders and a "squirrel defeater" (yep! That's the brand name as well). The bird feeder does it's job. The squirrel defeater also does its job, kinda/sorta. As long as it is set to the right height, no squirrel has been able to get to the feed. But those squirrels, though. You can see them look up and scheme their attack -- my wife finally told me, if the squirrel makes it to the top and gets to that feed, I am going out and placing the feed on a paper plate on the ground for them! They've earned it. :D

13: was delighted to see a Baltimore Orieole. We had a pair come to our property two years and never again. The 1st year 2 males fought along our fence line till they were so exhausted they lay motionless (10 minutes) I finally went out to see if they were even alive. They were and flew away! All sorts of sparrows, chickadees, occasional nuthatch, 3 species of wood peckers and 3 species of hawks come for lunch (till we let trees grow in so there is no "swoop room" for the redtails) We go thru as much a 300lb of seed over a fall and winter.
@dalesql29693 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing about six months ago. Worked like a champ. Now the squirrels prowl the ground underneath cleaning up all the spilled birdseed. Every once in a while I see one staring at the pole like he was contemplating climbing it, and then returning to scavanging the ground underneath.

If the squirrels, just like the squirrels around here, had any sense, they wouldn't have to climb up to the feeders. The birds are so messy, they knock more out of the feeder than they eat so there's more than enough on the ground. lol My dad wrapped the feeder post with sheets of aluminum with the top sheet overlapping the bottom one so the squirrels couldn't jump up, get their claws on the top of the bottom sheet then work their way on up. Worked pretty good. But your way is way more fun to watch!
