She's helping them to survive the coming winter. I never knew until recently that squirrels are not gluttons---they have to have a certain amount of fat on their little bodies in order to survive the winter. It's literally life or death for them. It's why it's heartbreaking to see people grease bird feeder poles then laugh at the squirrels' desperate attempts to get to the food. Why not toss a bit on the ground for the squirrels? I feed the birds AND the squirrels in my back yard. I love to watch them. Squirrels are so clever and adorable.

Because the human race has many bad people in it. No sense in doing that to squirrel except mean hearted. I feed squirrels in my yard about 2 lbs peanuts day. Birds eat too. I also have 2 groundhogs under our shed. Peanuts carrots and peanut butter sandwiches and water. Squirrels and groundhog drinks water together lol. Female deer come and I feed her too. You don’t have fo be an animal lover like me. But people done need fo be mean for their amusement either. Some humans are just scumbags

There is a town in Tennessee (Kenton) know as the town of the white squirrel. The town is full of white squirrels where people go there just to see them. Once a year they have a white squirrel festival. Parades and all to celebrate the white squirrels.

It's nice to see others helping the animals, where I live in the country is all birds. The owner of the land I live on has driven all the squirrels out with chemical spraying. I'm a nature lover and some complain about an animal doing this or that but they don't see the beauty of the Love you give to them and in turn they give Love back to you. Nature is the free gift you can have every day. Have an Awesome Day All!

Years ago we’d feed our local squirrels but not by hand they were too skittish instead we built a food box attached to our fence and fill it with goodies. We could watch them from our kitchen window. They are so precious funny and clever each with a distinct personality. I miss those squirrels! Thanks for sharing your squirrel adventures.

When I was a kid there was one that we could hand feed sometimes, I also remember tying some fishing line to food and doing a little bit of "tug of war" play with it. If I laid down on the grass with some food on my chest I could get it to climb me. Red squirrel (the more skittish species).

It's amazing how she let you rub her. I wish I can do that to the squirrels I feed everyday. Today I fed them with my window open. Usually after I put the food on my window sil I close the window and watch them eat. I think I'm ganing their trust . Actually, one was knocking on my window this morning wanting his breakfast.

If there were such a thing as a grey squirrel competition like they hold for pedigree dogs, Smoothie would have a good chance of winning with that fantastic tail. That's a sign of really good health.

Thank you 😊 I think she would have a very good chance of winning too, because not only that she's very beautiful and healthy with a fantastic tail, but she's also very smart. She often tries to open the window because she knows how the window slides open. Smoothie is a very amazing and precious squirrel 🐿️❤️

@@Squirrels_at_the_window I'm based in the UK and been feeding squirrels for a few decades, but it was mostly my wife feeding birds via bird feeders that got them really interested. They will chew away at bird feeders to get the seeds but we also used to put out various nuts for corvids and others which they would take. Eventually we had a grey who would come up the steps to the patio door and bang on it to get our attention. Because of her teets we knew she had recently given birth and she absolutely loved Brazils, so we called her Brazillia. She eventually started taking the brazils out of our hand which felt like a real connection with nature. Even though we knew that a lot of what she was taking was getting buried. We have seen magpies watching Brazilia burying nuts and then digging up where she had buried them which is a pain, but it is all part of nature and has to be accepted. Sadly, Brazilia must have died many years ago because she stopped turning up, but we have others that are almost as bold today.

That's wonderful, thank you for sharing this ❤️ I'm sorry about Brazillia, but like you said, is part of the circle of life. And now you may care for and feed some of her offspring. I had many squirrels who stopped coming at some point, and I got very attached to some of them. I miss them very much, but I'm glad to be able to continue to feed and bond with their offsprings. 😊🐿️

How adorable! I remember one of my regulars would come and get her own stash of peanuts or corn while the others did communal chaos feeding ! They were all amazing- and I love how you do the same types of things I did (not the nifty cakes, but toys and interactive stuff). :)

I took care of several neighborhood squirrels for 3 years.. if I wasn't looking when 1 would run up to me, I'd suddenly feel a little tappy-tap-tap on my lower leg.. and of course a little squirrel is up on his hind legs and tapping me just below my knee with his little paws, it was always incredibly cute

I have one that does the same thing he'll make a racket and then he'll sit there and stare at me. Sometimes he gets so anxious I'm afraid he's gonna come in when I open up the patio door.
