Thanks to you, I now know that I can actually replace the broken preload on my xct fork, whereas a local bike shop told me that I would need to buy a new fork cause the preload would be pressed in instead of screwed in. I ordered the correct preload and the corresponding wrench for a little fraction of the prize of a new fork. Thank you very much.

Thank you very much! I've done this service with my XCM30. But, this time, I'll do the service in the bike of my friend, equiped with a XCT, and was in doubt if it would be similar.

This might be a stupid question, but is it possible to remove the lockout mechanism and just put in a spring like the other side?
@joharissazali42752 жыл бұрын
Hi, I love your videos. Can we clean the sleeves inside and replace the bushing too? just like the video you did without the lock out mechanism. Thank you!
@crossedhelix86982 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words. The sleeves can be removed and replaced, I forgot to do it for the video though, oops! I documented the process of removing them a little better in this video on the M3010 series, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q6eBrbuisZ61ZHk.html just skip ahead to the 3:00 minute mark and the same technique applies to the XCT!

How do I find out how to get a stiffer spring? Or do they make some kind of preload spacer I can put under the preload cap? I have forks similar to this on my E bike, but they have no labeling of any kind, but I believe they are SunTour

am trying to find out how to fix a stuck preload dial on that fork, mine is stuck past weak tension.
@need4speed2902 жыл бұрын
Hi, Before removing everything did you close or open the lockout.
@crossedhelix86982 жыл бұрын
It's best to open the lockout so that it moves freely, but you can still take it apart with the lockout engaged! You can stick a hex key in there to adjust the lockout once you've removed the cap if it becomes an issue

Great video!! Can left spring be changed to different spring tension/compression?
@crossedhelix86982 жыл бұрын
It looks like if you have an XCT LO model, there are soft, medium and firm springs for sale on SR Suntours site, but I haven't been able to find any direct aftermarket springs for this particular model. I'm sure there are some out there that fit, but it might take a little experimentation to find one that matches up well!

1:44 How much will that mechanism cost if it's broken?
@crossedhelix86982 жыл бұрын
It's been difficult to get typical pricing lately, but these cartridges can be bought for about $40 dollars or so right now on SRSuntours main site. I'm not 100% about the fitment, but they have some on ali express for $30 or so dollars too.

I bought a bicycle with this fork and it doesnt have this 1:41 element inside but it works,what is this part called?
@sihilius25 күн бұрын
Don't know if this is still relevant to you, but I will explain it anyway. Also I don't know your experience level, so I will go rather detailed. There are some variants of this fork. Some have two steel springs inside some have a spring and a dampener (the part you indicated), but both tubes should be populated by either of the two. A dampener basically is used for slowing down the speed that the spring contracts and extends with, e.g. through increased friction or flow of a liquid through a tiny opening (there are many ways to achieve this, some rather simple, others more complex). It also takes energy out of the system, which means if your spring was oscillating, with each oscillation the dampener would take out a bit of energy and translate it to heat, making the next oscillation cycle a little shorter in length. Actually on suntour's webiste you can find the construction plans of those forks including the part numbers of individual parts. Make sure that the name of your fork matches with the name of the fork specified in the document. Be careful: a comma used in the name in the document might indicate that the document specifies 2 slightly different forks. e.g. the document for the "SF16-XCT-DS-HLO-29-80,100" specifies two similar forks with 80mm travel on one and 100mm travel on the other fork, thus the name of your exact fork will either end on 80 or 100, but not both, eg: SF16 XCT DS HLO 29 T 100 (that's what might be written on the fork somewhere). Variations in the parts can depend on the exact model of the fork, the wheel size... For the fork named above, intended for a 29 inch wheel, the number for the dampener would be FUN050-14 (don't ask me how they came up with that part number😂). The parts can be found online for sale.
