WOW! Great video. What a beautiful place. And I like that you actually provided some information on the site, which most vloggers don't do. But one error, Buddha was born in Lumbini, Nepal. Nepal is NOT in India. They are two seperate countries.Anyways, I wanna visit, but I was gonna just book an 8 day tour with a guide. Is it an easy country to travel around on your own?

Don't go to myths with buddhism .misunderstanding is dangerous .grasp your fast moving mind and come to meditation and explore your mind.then you can understand what is hell heaven and how world is created and how can be destroyed.only human mind is the window to see it .no God or any other soul can see it.

Dear Yasmin, bravo to your attempt to video Sri Lanka but sadly you have missed out on the best. Anyone who implies that most elephants in Sri Lanka are in chains, is just talking utter rubbish. Then again anyone who's worth their salt would never go to a temple to see elephants in Sri Lanka. We have the largest gathering of the wild elephants in Asia and perhaps even in the whole world. The elephant orphanage in Pinnawala is the best of its kind and it only makes sense in Sri Lanka because of our culture and the past, other countries can have transit homes but an orphanage wont make any sense. As for the rock where you have been is nothing like Sigiriya, nor can it hold a candle to Dambulla. Please at least try to do a bit of credible research before spreading serious misinformation about a treasure of a destination. Cheers!!!

GARF UNKLE I know but at the time of his birth the state Nepal didn't exist and if I'm not wrong the whole area was known as India. I should probably have said in modern day Nepal.

Yaiyasmin , you are so right. At that time, it was the greater India that stretched quite a bit in the north and south. It is generally acceptable to say that he was born in India as his father's kingdom was a combination of what are today Nepal and north-eastern India.

+Altafzaman yes I agree with you. I'm mixed with both Indian and Nepalese, and the kingdom that Buddha was from actually included part of Northern India in Uttar Pradesh where my great-grandparents are from (I live in the U.S. And I'm mixed with a lot of ethnicities, but I am mostly Indian and Nepalese and speak the language). Most of Buddha's monastic life was spent in Northern India (Uttar Pradesh and Bihar) where Buddhism flourished, and he was even enlightened there. He also passed away in India. Buddhism had a very large following in India for a time and from there it was brought to China and many other East Asian, South Asian, and Central Asian countries. If I'm not mistaken, I even heard that it reached as far as Greece at one point. Anyway, have a great day!

Yasmin, sorry to say this, most of the facts you hv mentioned here are wrong. That is not the biggest statue, not even close. If you really wants to know about SL Buddhist history you should visit Kandy. There you will find many amazing places including the "Shri dhalada maligava". June/July is a good time to visit Kandy. And please next time hire a good tourist guide to help you with information.( or, there are plenty of world-class tourist service providers. I highly recommend to hire one of those than taking info from unreliable sources.) wishing you good trip next time.

Does any knowledgeable person(s) know the difference between the philosophies (NOT RITUALS) of Hinduism and Buddhism and Jainism ? The baseline of all those appear to be the same as explained to me by my Hindu / Buddhist / Jain friends. Apparently, some Sanskrit hymns are common to all three. Thanks in advance.

+Altafzaman no sanskrit hymns are common to each other... atleast not buddhism
@Altafzaman
@Altafzaman 8 жыл бұрын
+sirdudeus, appreciated. I was informed that hymns in Nepal and Tibet among the Hindus and Buddhist there are common and are of sanskrit origins. The other similarities are: (a) Karma based on individual deeds and actions (b) Materialism, or desire and attachement to worldly things and feelings are the root cause of suffering (c) Reincarnation in next life based on you deeds and actions in this life (and in this life based on those in your previous life) (d) compassion towards all beings (and therefore, vegetarianism, even though not practised by many Hindus and Buddhist) (e) Several dieties or 'gods" (f) meditation, yoga and chanting as ways to achieve enlightment. .... .... CAN SOMEBODY TELL ME THE DIFFERENCE(S) ?

+Altafzaman Buddhism and Jainism belongs to sramana culture (atheist culture) , Hinduism is based on Vedic culture (idol worshipping, animal sacrifices, caste system etc) Sramana culture existed way before Vedic culture.sramana as a atheist didn't believe any deity taking control in your life. Sramana believe your karma (actions) decides where your life will go. So you are the controller of your life. Sramana also practised yoga meditation. Vedic people (Hindu) adapted many concepts from sramana (Buddhist and Jains) the concept of karma, meditation, yoga etc was adapted in Hinduism from Buddhist and Jains Karma in Hinduism is different. Karma is mostly like getting a reward of better life in your next birth. For ex, if you are a shudra ( a lower caste person) according to Hinduism, it's a lower caste persons duty to serve upper castes, and if he serves them well, in his next life he will be born in higher caste Buddhism karma isn't about getting a reward.

+Altafzaman Buddhist don't have reincarnation. Buddhist believe in rebirth. As I explained you Hindu reincarnation is based on the religious duties given to particular caste. If they perform it well, they are born in higher caste. In Buddhism karma is not based on religious actions, it's based on morality. Positive actions brings positive things in life, negative brings negative.buddhism the highest goal is nirvana About vegetarianism , Theravada Buddhist (orthodox Buddhist) do follow vegetarianism. My family don't eat meat. About Hinduism, again, ancient Hindus used to eat cows, goats etc. You can find the references in rigveda (Hindu holy book) . Even Brahmins used to eat cows in ancient India. Vegetarianism was again another thing Hindus adopted from Buddhists and Jains. But it's not followed anymore in Hinduism. However Jains and Buddhist in India are mostly veggies .

No, buddists try to attain the state of nibbana.when you achieve this state you will be no more . This is only found in Buddhism .and the way of practice is very very UNIQUE to buddhism. many non buddhists were fooled by hindu purana books. Those similer looking hyms were later adopteded because they had actual values. But there are only a very of them .but every single idea in the core of Buddhism(the bodhi pakshika damma,...)is unique ,and found nowhere else. So don't be fooled by those idiots saying Buddhism is created from hinduism or blah blah blah. In fact from the history we can see hindus were very jealous at Buddhism.later in the guptha ira they created false information about Budda in order to make Buddhism a part of it. But the truth is real BUDDHISM AND ITS PHILOSOPHY NEVER WAS AND NEVER WILL BE RELATED TO ANY OTHER RELIGION OR PHILOSOPHY. using the same or related language /having similer words/......doesn't mean Buddhism or hinduism or jainism have same roots. If you study them to their greatest depths.you'll find out the three religions are unique. (Hinduism was created long after.before then there wasonly a bunch of philosophies.if there was anything true in those,buddha pointed out them as true abpnd good for well being.eg some dyaanas which were fpund by early people( RISHIS ,not hindus)were actually real.so buddha also pointed out them.saying same things doesn't make one, a part of the other. I think now you have understood that.

Is it really necessary to film yourself in front of the murals your trying to depict/explain? It kind of spoils the potential mood of a holy place of worship with such behaviour, if you make yourself minimal and make the material maximal it would be better if Indeed the idea is to educate or just show the place for what it is rather than idk...get views
