One of the ideas that goes around which I tend to agree with is that Jimi is undoubtedly more influential of a guitarist and pretty much wrote the book on modern electric guitar but SRV perfected it. They get compared a lot because Stevie covered some Jimi songs but they are pretty different honestly. Jimi has strong blues influences but was really discovering it as he went and was in the psychedelic rock era. Stevie is blues to his core and perfected his aggressive, cut to your soul playing style. In my opinion they are one and two all time and whoever I think is one depends on which side of the bed I wake up on that day. Both are perfect guitarists for what they wanted to be.

SRV was heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix but Jimi probably never heard of SRV but there's no doubt that Jimi would have loved and appreciated SRV's style. The bottom line is, Jimi and Stevie were both extremely original and gifted guitarists and they were both the best at what they did..

It`s not a competition. Jimi paved the way, Stevie mastered & built on Jimi`s foundation. Both are awesome & it`s okay to love both. I do.

My Mom was friends with SRV's wife in Austin back in the day. I was raised by "Hippies" having been born in 1966, and my parents were friends with a lot of musicians. I was always of the mind that through knowing people such as that back then it wasn't about who was "Better" it was a communal sense of enjoying what others could do. Just a perspective. I would say Hendrix is the king. SRV is amazing, but as my dad used to say- "Hendrix never did covers of SRV songs..." Granted, SVR came quite a bit later than Hendrix, but he also might be the most influential guitarist of all time. Hell, SRV himself was inspired by the man, and even idolized Hendrix. My uncle is the best guitarist you've never heard of(primarily blues) and he would disagree with me. But i have to go with what my soul says when I listen to both, and Hendrix is my man. Mr.Video- Hendrix predates SRV and was a huge influence for him. In fact the reaction you did for Voo Doo Child is a Hendrix song.

Jimi died in 1970 at age 27. SRV was only 16 at the time. SRV really is the GOAT, but Jimi remains the Legend on the Throne. When you hear, “Hendrix” it has an entirely different affect than when you hear, “Stevie Ray”. Hendrix is like, “here world, let me show you all how it is done”. “Stevie Ray is like, “thank you master, let me show how I’ve perfected what you showed me”.

Jimi came first and was a huge influence on thousands if not millions of guitarists including SRV and Prince. SRV and Prince influenced the next generation. There is no "best ", only your favorite. Even that can change depending on the mood you're in. Keep exploring new music besides your reaction videos. There's so much good music out there, it's nearly impossible to hear it all.

Hendrix was around about a decade before SRV. SRV is my favorite, but SRV looked up to Hendrix and other Blues Musicians. Another thing Hendrix died at age 27 and SRV died just shy of his 36th birthday.

You’ve got to try Jimi’s Voodoo Child, it’s the ultimate guitar song, and yes, SRV does a hell of a rendition of it too. SRV may have perfected his technique to a higher level than Jimi, but Jimi was the song writer and creator. He developed all on his own. SRV picked up what Jimi originated and added a bit more flash and polish to it. It doesn’t take anything away from him, but without Jimi trailblazing the way, SRV would have been an entirely different player.

Side note at the festival no one wanted to play after him, he said if he was going on last he was pulling out all the stops. So his first American appearance as The Jimi Hendrix Experience was this legendary performance you just saw a portion of.

I'm an old timer from the 60's. Growing up there were lots of live bands playing black clubs from Thursday night through Sunday night. I grew up in Chester, Pa when it was jumpin'. Not only was Chester jumping but the whole Philadelphia area had some outstanding black bands, Saw lots of cats who could play with their teeth, behind their backs, etc. It was an imitation of what Chuck Berry was doing back then. Although Chuck never played with his teeth he popularized other ways of playing his guitar. It was considered to be part of "the show". This was standard fare at the black clubs back then. Hendrix just exposed what was happening in black clubs to the rest of the world once he had an opportunity to let loose and play. He just killed it, period. But he wasn't the only brother doing his "thing". He was fortunate to meet Chas Chandler who took him to England and exposed him to the world. I'll stop here because if you weren't there, you'll never understand what I'm talking about.
