Great video, just one question: does the SSL2+ drive 250 ohm headphones without having to turn up the volume completely during recording and mixing? Thank you.
@Rv_Music108
@Rv_Music108 4 жыл бұрын
I've only used sony mdr7506 headphones and never need to turn up passed 12 o' clock. I pulled this from the ssl website: [Typically a pair of headphones with a very high impedance (250 Ω, for example) would suffer from a lack of power when used with a very low source impedance output. SSL 2/2+ is designed with professional audio quality in mind, which means that there is ample power to drive any headphones from SSL 2/2+ headphone output]

Love the way your voice sounds. The song is cool haha. Do you have any thoughts on the latency when it comes to using virtual instruments? I have a powerful enough computer, and normally work on 48 or 192 KHz, so if you've tried virtual instruments or plugins for recording, I would really like to know if you can record without latency problems with the buffer at 512 or 128, hope you can share something with me, thanks!
@Rv_Music108

Thank you! I typically use the slate virtual mix rack on almost everything while tracking. I havent experienced any latency issues. I track at 48khz. I cant recall what my buffer rate is, I'm away from my computer but i think its 512 samples. I recall having some latency when using big reverb plugins like slate verb suite. Not an issue cause they're usually on an aux send anyways. I dont have any issues with virtual instruments either. I use ANA 2, Xpand and SSD drums with no problems. I'm running a 2015 macbook with 16gbs of ram...I think? I hope this helps! Cheers

I noticed too much sibliance with SSL 2+ connected to M-Audio Nova condenser microphone. I had no problem with the mic connected to M Track Plus for years but suddenly the recordings have more sibliance than ever. In fact, I never knew what sibliance is until now.

Interesting, i can see there being a bit more sibilance with the 4k switch on but not too much, i’ve used many different mics and the pre amps are crisp and clean. Maybe you can correct it with EQ or a de-esser plugin

@@Rv_Music108 I'm not happy with my purchase. I think I should've got something like the Focusrite, but I'm hoping the SSL with work fine with other microphones I will purchase in the future, but it's certainly turning out to be very costly.

Hi, great and short video. I have a question for you. I have a Saffire Pro 24 and I am between the ssl 2+ and the audient id14 mkII. Sometimes going to one, other to the other. What worries me in the ssl is that I do voiceover and if I want to record with low latency but following the original which is in the DAW, you have to mute the recording track and play with the mix knob to get a better balance and in the focusrite and audient as well, you can route the mic direct to the phones as well the daw out without muting anything. This is the conclusion I had so far trying to understand how to solve my problem and adapt to my usage if by one or the other. As an user of the saffire and now the ssl, what was your impression? Thanks
@Rv_Music108
@Rv_Music108 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, thanks for the comment. I’m not sure I fully understand your question. I haven’t had any audible latency even with many tracks and plugins running. Im using a 2017 macbook. Ive never needed to adjust the knob on the interface. Are you referring to the mix control software thats used with the saffire pro? Is that how you would monitor the dry mic signal?
@EduardoZanotti
@EduardoZanotti 2 жыл бұрын
@@Rv_Music108 Hi, sorry, I have to admit that I was not so clear in my question. Basically in my focusrite, the audio you receive in the phone is a mix you prepare in the app mix control. On it, I put the direct analog input and DAW audio, so I have best of both worlds. My worries were with the SSL, because it has no app to manage, only that mix knob (similar to the maudio fast track) and was thinking how can I receive the direct mic audio and the daw audio with that knob. I know that this sounds a stupid question, but it is linked to my flow of work. Anyway, your answer that you don't move the knob is the same as a friend of mine. So, I bought it. Thanks for the information and sorry for the mess! :)

@Rv_Music108
@Rv_Music108 Жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for the comment. Yes, it has plenty of headroom to work with. Does your guitar have active pickups? My telecaster used to have active pickups and they were so hot it would clip the preamp even when turned way down.

@@Rv_Music108 hi man. No my pickups are Bare Knuckle passive humbuckers on a LP. Even on my tele, the preamps on the 2i2 clips. What I do now is I use a di box. Great to know the SSL has enough headroom.

Hi, nice review. I did get the SSL2 the other day, but I need to set the mic gain on my phantom powered condenser mic (yes it's powered up) to 9/10 to peak at -3 dbFS when at 30 cm distance and speaking. And at least at 7-8 for reasonable recording levels. How much gain do you need for the Rode? I also think it is very sensitive there at 8-9, easy to be too low or to clip..
@Rv_Music108
@Rv_Music108 Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I typically just speak or sing the loudest part of the song and back off the gain until it isn’t clipping anymore. I’ll typically stay 3-4 inches away from the mic when singing or speaking. About the distance of a fist between your mouth and the mic. I have several mics and they are all different. I just try to get a healthy level without clipping.
@megajonson9075
@megajonson9075 Жыл бұрын

Haha thank you! I usually just the leave the knob turned all the way to the output, or USB. I havent had any latency issues. Sometimes I use it to balance the level of playback while tracking to better hear my vocals or guitar.

If you have latency issues, blending the knob to the input will lessen the latency signal, but it's still audible. Putting verbs/delays on an aux send helps. Or changing the buffer/sample rate. Hope this answered your question

Do you think is better than Focusrite 2i2 3gen?
@Rv_Music108
@Rv_Music108 3 жыл бұрын
It's hard to say if it's better. I had the 2nd gen gen scarlett and I can say that the SSL does sound a little more detailed. I've never tried the air button on the scarlett but I really like the 4k switch on the SSL. The focusrite is more affordable so it really comes down to the amount of money you want to spend. I would probably go with the SSL but I'm sure you'll be very happy with the focusrite as well. They're great. Cheers!

Which one is better UAD Apollo oder SSL 2+?
@Rv_Music108
@Rv_Music108 4 жыл бұрын
If you can afford the apollo, go for it. But for almost 1/4 of the price the ssl is a no brainer. I dont think there is much of a noticable difference in quality. I've never owned the apollo but I've used one. ✌

@@Rv_Music108 the two plugins in the ssl2 box cost more on their own without the ssl2 ! That's great value. The ua system is the opposite. I had the Apollo and it was great but the AD meh. The plugin cost is super high and is what the true benefit of the uad system is. You can track through a number of plugins which you will find is great unless you already have the hardware it emulates. For the price you pay for the best quality options you could buy a used version of better hardware and the hardware doesn't ask you to upgrade it to a better version of itself in a few months or keep you from working on your tracks if its not plugged in or you have more instances that the number of chips you bought as the apollo is a big dongle with each version limited to the dsp on it.

@@AnthonyMartinsRock great points! The included ssl plugins are awesome. I have the slate everything bundle so luckily it includes all the updates and stuff. I can understand the frustration of owning a plugin and seeing updated versions come out that you cant have.
