I had my M-Audio M-Track Plus for a decade. I always thought it could've been better so I got the SSL 2+. But I'm not happy the sibilance on the SSL 2+. The same microphone on the M-Audio sounded more natural and I had never thought about the sibilance even once. I'm feeling I should've bought the Focusrite 6i6 instead of the SSL 2+.

Hi. Great Vid. What version of Protools are you using on the ssl? PC or Mac? I have Protools 8 but not sure if it would work on the ssl. Thanks

@RV_Music did u switch on the phantom power using the rode NT1? Good job anyway
@Rv_Music108
@Rv_Music108 Жыл бұрын
Yes it requires phantom power. That clip from the video was just b roll to show the 4k button being engaged

Hey nice video!! May i ask something?? I have lately problems by connecting my microfone (i have the same as you have from RODE) to the ssl 2 audio interface. It dosn't give any signal. Do you think that happens becouse of the microfone or the xlr cable?? Thank you in advance!!
@Rv_Music108
@Rv_Music108 Жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you, I assume you are turning on 48v phantom power? If that’s not the issue I would try a different cable. If that fails then it must the the microphone. Good luck!

Overall would you say this is an upgrade to the focusrite scarlett 2i2?
@Rv_Music108

I would say so. I used to have the 2i2 and it is great but the ssl sounds noticeably better.

What's your experience on gate gain required for the NT1A. I noticed you hadn't the phantom power engaged, but maybe it was reused B-roll footage. Also, you gain was set to 8 out of 10, is this the case also for the NT1A? I cannot figure out if it's normal that I have to crank up the gain on my condenser to have decent levels.
@Rv_Music108
@Rv_Music108 Жыл бұрын
Yes, that was reused b roll footage. The amount of gain depends on the source. I speak into the mic and adjust the level accordingly. Same with acoustic, i play and get it as loud as possible without clipping. I look at the level going into pro tools and as long as im not clipping its all good. With a dynamic mic like an sm57 you will need to turn it up quite a bit more to get acceptable level from speaking or an acoustic guitar. Especially an sm7b for example. What kind of mic are you using? I would’t worry about it too much, if you are getting a healthy level into the daw without clipping then you are ok.

@@Rv_Music108 Thanks for the reply. I have a Neumann KM184 and as I am not too experienced with phantom powered mics (only USB condensers) and the SSL2 is new as well I feared that it should show higher levels at less gain, but you are right. It's not really a problem to reach the gain but when using it live one would have to pull the gain very high to reach high enough levels. It might also be that I expected this SDC mic to be more sensitive i.e. to be used further away from the source.
@Rv_Music108
@Rv_Music108 Жыл бұрын
@@megajonson9075 oh cool, nice mic! Yeah just play around with it and watch some tutorials on the proper distance etc. I bet you can get some excellent acoustic guitar sounds with that mic and your ssl interface. Turn up the gain as loud as it needs to be to get a healthy level.

So really is the SSL interface worth getting cause I'm thinking about it lol ok check this I got a focusrite 2i4 2ndgen I like the mic pre but looking to upgrade and if the SSL the real deal I will upgrade to that. There for I dont got to spend close to $1,000 plz let me know I love the video to💪🏿

The focusrite interfaces are nice. I have had the scarlett and sapphire stuff. I think the SSL sounds better. You'll definitely notice a difference. You can still capture great recordings with the focusrite though! It's up to you, but it's always exciting to get new gear. I'd say go for it! You wont be disappointed

How is that monitor mixing thing working? Is the signal on the input setting dry, or is it possible to make a zero latency mic recording with say a reverb or delay?
@Rv_Music108
@Rv_Music108 4 жыл бұрын
Great question. I Should be able to record with some reverb and delay with no audible latency. I need to record some vocals for a song later today/tomorrow and I'll let you know for sure.
@Rv_Music108
@Rv_Music108 4 жыл бұрын
So the knob all the way on input is totally dry. The more you blend toward the monitor mix there is some latency. I was able to get a decent blend of reverb/effects with no audible latency while tracking. I had a ssl vocal strip running and reverb on an aux track

Im am torn between this and the steinberg ur22c. Can i connect the SSL 2+ to iOS devices using the USB to Lightning Connection Kit by Apple? Does this have the features that ur22c has? This is the ref: download.steinberg.net/downloads_hardware/UR-C/Manuals/UR22C_Operation_Manual_English.pdf

Also, it looks like the Steinberg has all of the same features as the SSL 2+ with the exception of the 2nd headphone jack. The phantom power switch is on the back of the Steinberg which seems inconvenient.
