With this episode, we’re starting our study of the period after the Second Vatican Council. Over the next twenty or so episodes, we’ll be diving into topics like the Novus Ordo Mass, Religious Liberty, Collegiality, the Hermeneutic of Continuity, Feenyism, Obedience and its Limits, Sedevacantism, Ecumenism, Infallibility, the new Canonizations, Supplied Jurisdiction, and much more. But today, we’ll start with the reforms that started to take place just after the Second Vatican Council. Father John-Mark McFarland will take us through the immediate aftermath of the council, and show us how the Council, and the “Spirit of Vatican II” meant an immediate overhaul, and deformation of everything in the Church.
If you'd like to learn more about this series we're doing on the Crisis in the Church or go back and revisit our previous 21 episodes, please visit sspxpodcast.com/crisis
If you have the ability to set up a monthly recurring donation of $5, $10, or $20 on sspxpodcast.com it would help us immensely to complete this Crisis in the Church project.

I was very young when they switched from Latin to the vernacular. I remember later when the NO was instituted, and even though I was young, I was struck by how unserious and even contemptibly silly it seemed.

I was born in ‘54. I also remember the early days, going to Mass as a little girl with Gramma. (Her last name was Crowley, my Mom’s maiden name. 🙂). But anyway, it was just interesting as a kid that everything changed so fast. Now, I see with eyes wide open. We attended the NO Mass for years, just not realizing that our beloved TLM even still existed.🤷‍♀️ yikes! Now I know! I was thrilled to learn about Archbishop Levebvre and the SSPX. My husband and I can’t get to the SSPX chapel near us fast enough! We’re absolutely in love with them and their beautiful liturgy. People there just seem happy. God bless Archbishop Lefebvre and all the priests on the SSPX! 🙏✝️💖

I'm from India and have been a Novus Ordo Catholic all my life. I have been faithfully following this series and I can't thank you enough for each of the episodes. They are exceptionally well presented by knowledgeable SSPX priests. There is so much depth and insight into the reasons behind the collapse of the faith. May God Bless your efforts abundantly. I an eagerly looking forward to all the rest of the episodes especially the one's on the New Mass.

I am not Catholic nor even a practising Christian and in fact I am from the protestant tradition but the clarity and depth of Fr McFarland's arguments here and in other discussions I have sought out have greatly impressed me. Modern evangelical Protestantism and Catholicism seem to lack something. I have been greatly impressed by SSPX and the desire for a more traditional and honest return to a true faith. For the first time in my life I am seriously considering the first steps towards seeking to become a member of the Roman Catholic community. In listenin to Fr McFarland and other SSPX priests I hear a calling to God. Something I never thought I would ever say.

chris b. So glad to read your comment. Yes, continue learning of the Catholic Faith. At the laymen's level, both SSPX and FSSP are identical. These societies do have theological differences, but they mostly influence the Priests and not the people.

I was born in '60. I remember the terrible changes between 1967-1970. We went from Adoration/Benediction in Latin to BS hand-clapping Kumbaya guitar mass over night. I hated the changes as did my classmates and siblings, most of whom left the Church to this day. I remember all the teaching nuns running off leaving us to be taught by a Baptist lady. Thanks a lot Modernists, I will never never forget this.

Yes. I guess the modernists wanted to please the youth with those awful changes, but the youth like me and others I know, actually hate it and love Tradition

M5guitar , Very well stated . Thank you . Isn't it ironic that by turning their backs on God to please Protestants , they emptied out their churches ? Soooo many left for protestant churches . Sooooo many just left . I was among them , but just recently returned . Returned to the Latin Mass . The New Order Mass and it's lack of REVERENCE , modesty and worship is too upsetting .

I was born December 9, 1965 the day after Vatican Ii commenced. Ad a very tot, I remember there was much weeping in the house as the "reforms" were implemented. When the "new Mass" was ushered in,y family stopped going to Mass for a time as there was no known Latin Mass available and there was much confusion and bitterness. These men that did this screwed up a lot of people both spiritually and psychologically and have facilitated an ease in morality and a belief that there is no truth. Pontius Pilates and Judases....may they repent of their errors and may those of us who have been raised under this false Catholicism be saved from the this obfuscation. Thank God for Archbishop Lefebvre and the SSPX. It seems to me from the very lowly place which I occupy that he will have a very high place of glory in Heavenly Kingdom. Thank you to all of who are involved with this series. It is priceless and essential. God bless you.

This excellent series deflates the comments and views espoused by neoconservative Catholics, that there was nothing inappropriate in any of the documents presented by the Council, when in fact this simply was not the case. The Council hatched the Modernist eggs that had been incubating in Church circles for some time.

Thank you so much for these informative episodes. They have been helping me learning my true Catholic faith. I am 51 years old, I attended a Catholic School in Ontario, Canada from grade 1 to 12 and was not taught this. I first came to know the Traditional Latin Mass in January of 2020. I am so grateful for Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre and the society he established. Had he not sacrificed and had he not done all he did to preserve the truth, I would never have come to know it.

After hearing what Father explained about the reforms to the religious Orders after the Council, I understand why during my years at a Catholic monastery in the late 90s and early 2000s, there were so many things that shocked me, and why I found so revolting the novice master's explanation that after the Council the religious life had been "humanized". To that I answered that those novelties were not "humanizing", but watering down; not becoming more human, but becoming worldly. It is no surprise then that the monastic life is dying. A real tragedy. What the devil had been aiming at, no doubt.

Hello, I've watched all 22 episodes of 'Crisis in The Church' podcasts (& I've just now, downloaded the 'Google App' so I can keep abreast of all SSPX releases). I think the one comment that summarises the whole series, is the amount of times per episode, the interviewer says, "wow". Exactly put! It's at least 10 times per podcast, I'd guess? Thank you for a wonderful series - I was going to write, "thought provoking", but realised Vat II itself was at the very least, 'thought provoking'. The jury decided within weeks of it starting, as Archbishop Lefebvre quickly realised, that 'thoughts had indeed been concluded' & all further 'fruits of that tree', would be rotten. How the Pope downward, can't look at the state of the Catholic Church around the world & conclude, 'something's gone very wrong' since The Second Vatican Council, I don't know?

I'm with you. I’ve been saying “Wow” as well. If I'd had seen this series earlier in life, maybe it's not as impactful. I'm 59. I was being a lazy Catholic for many years. Things are changing now.

Sometimes I have great sympathy for sedevacantists, because when I think about everything that went wrong at Vatican II, sedevacantism does make a certain amount of sense
@GABRIELLA3254
@GABRIELLA3254 3 жыл бұрын
Be careful brother. Sedevacantists are often like the modernist, because they call anyone who isn't a sede, a modernist. They call the SSPX modernists, some sedevacantists fight with each other because, tho most Sedes say Pius XII was the last pope, some say it was Pius IX! So, the problem with sedevacantism is the obstination, like they can't prove their theory is right (Yes, it could be right, but we don't know). But they treat sedevacantism like dogma and get aggressive if you don't agree. So, stick with the SSPX I would advise

It might be helpful to address directly some of the claims from the conciliar apologists such as Michael Lofton or Michael Voris. I think they do a lot damage to souls.

Well , they emptied their churches out , didn't they ? I remember the old , magnificent , inner city Catholic churches filled to the MAX for Latin Masses in the late 50s and early 60s . Tragic .

A few things I know make me uneasy of these recent changes in Church governance and teachings. How does SSPX knowing all these changes integrate its outlook of the Church?

V2 was the only Council convened to "correct" the Church, rather than heretical teachings. It was the only council that didn’t attempt to teach faith or morals. It was the only council that was implemented in a way that is not consistent with the documents it produced. The smoke of Satan has entered the Church. Our Lady of Fatima, Pray for us. 📿

Speaking of the reign of terror the bad guys are following the French Revolution inside the church...you see the revolution was stifled and tradition came back ther was a slowing of it, then the bourbon king abdicated.then it came back twice as worse ...but benadict if he's like the bourbon king ,and summorom pontificum the slowing, pacamama scandal and what German prelates and theologians from quasi cath/Luther... schools wich is insane....but basically thee great terror is happening in the church by the day (in their minds)so we have an idea of how they are thinking....but all this war on tradition and certain abominable things are about now ... deliberately I feel.... this is the next step in Thier plans... because they have the highest places apparently....father Kramer is good at explaining it...but they are going to take it too the extreme now..I fear
