As an Englishman of a certain age, this brings back memories of my childhood growing up in a small village in northern England. It is a quindecinnial part of Old England along with the village cricket match on Sunday. It was danced to welcome the spring and the end of winter, the Black Morris was danced to welcome the Winter. Don't often see people "Doing the Morris" nowadays and I haven't seen a "Black Morris" for maybe 45 years.

Its great to keep the old traditions alive. I wonder if in about 500 years people will be doing the Michael Jackson dance on the streets.

When i got married back in June '85, the whole countries Morrismen (or it seemed) were having a meeting in Abingdon, in the same building as my reception.....they all came in and did a fertility Dance and i had to kiss every single one of them! Result!?? ....... 4 children in 7 years! 😳

@@adolflenin4973 Vindaloo is when a bunch of wallies are left to themselves. 5:30 is when everyone is together, across communities, villages, towns, a people. England. "A great place to live, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else", so said Timothy Spall.

Why does it not feel 'right', what colour should they use? There are numerous groups of ' colour' around the world who put white mud on their faces as part of their cultural celebrations, are they wrong?

@indie blackface was worn to ridicule the law that outlawed blackface as poachers used blackface to hide their identity......nothing at all to do with race.
