PART 1 - Days 1 & 2 on the water. This series covers 531 miles on the St Johns River between Sanford FL and the Atlantic. We explored as many springs & creeks as we could during this 3 week adventure, on our 1971 HOBO houseboat.
Sanford - Emanuel Bend / Guava Is / Blue Springs State Park / Stark Loop Landing.

Lived in south Florida for 36 yrs. and always wanted to cruise the St. John's River from one end to the other. Unfortunately, I'm 78 with health problems and unable to do these things anymore. The Saint John's river, I know it all too well , silver Glen, silver springs. Hell I even water skied the saint johns river in the early 80s, for like 7 miles until I couldn't walk anymore

St Johns river is one of few rivers in North America that flow north. The river begins at Lake Hell and Blazes in Brevard County Fl. The distance from Lake Hell and Blazes to Jacksonville is 310 miles. The Elevation of Lake Hell and Blazes is only 30 feet more than Jacksonvilles elevation so the river flows very slowly. Good to see such a great couple enjoying their visit to Florida.

@@oldhobo5610 It looks like you enjoyed some peace and quiet on your trip. If you go to Lake Hell and Blazes (AKA Helen Blazes) expect a lot of noise from airboats. It might be too shallow for your boat, I remember the prop on my canoe with a 2 HP motor was chewed by freshwater clams. Otherwise a good destination.

Very nice! You make a good crew. Our little trawler drafts 2'11" and we're planning on exploring the St. Johns going south from Doctor's Inlet marina. We just completed a cruise from Tarpon Springs via the GCW, the Okeechobee Waterway and the ICW to Jacksonville. Being used to deep water, it is often gut tightening to be cruising in the shallows of Florida water.

That's a great trip, good to be able to tolerate a little greater range of weather. For the St Johns we found the GPS charts fairly accurate, relatively speaking, with water a little higher than datum I think. Good luck!

I love cruising the St. John's River. I keep my boat at Boat Tree Marina which is just past those bridges north of Lake Monroe.

I was going to watch this but by looking at the map I see you ended the trip at Sanford... in my mind below that is the best.

Sanford is a nice town and the St Johns just north of Lake Monroe has a lot of places to explore. Upstream (south) of Sanford gets a little shallow for us. I had thoughts of going thru Lake Harney but changed my mind once we got there.
