St Laurence O'Toole Pipe Band, under Pipe Major Terry Tully, playing their medley at the World Pipe Band Championships held at Glasgow Green on 14 August 2010.
The medley is preceded by the announcement of the World Grade One Champions for 2010. To skip this go to 00:51.
The tunes being played are The Big Yin, Kenny Gilles of Portalong, Jimmy Ward's, The Rose, Buntata's Sgadan, Sabhal Mor Astaig, The Ferryman, The Blonde Haired Maid, and a reprise of The Ferryman.
The band pretty much swept the boards winning the Grade One Drumming Championship, and being placed first in the March, Strathspey and Reel (MSR) and the Medley as well as taking the World Grade One Championship. The MSR drawn on the day was the same as won the band the European Championships two weeks previously in Belfast (see separate video).
Warmest congratulations to the band on their achievements in 2010, their centenary year. This was a tough competition; the standard of playing in the Grade One competition this year was as high as I can remember it.

First time at the Worlds - while not a good player of bagpipes - I felt it was easy to see that overall your performance stood out from the others in all sections being pipes, middle section and side drumming. You made made my trip a memorable experience. Enjoy the outcome of a lot of hard work, you all deserve this. Wayne Clarke from Australia.

I was in the grandstand for the 2010 worlds..great day, and whilst I am a big fan of SFU..SLOT deserve their glory and it is nice to see that for once SFU, Shotts or FMM didn't win it.

Was an incredible performance and what a celebration of pipes and drums from Ireland and Scotland that day. Plus the Celtic Diaspora from around the world. Well done on your continuing high standards. I thought the results in 2011 were a bit off and while I loved Field Marshall Montgomery last year I felt SLO'T were a close second. Inveraray are very exciting but a long way to catch the Standard of the 2 top Irish Bands in my book.

Ireland has produced alot of top pipe bands over the years..they are close celtic brothers of the scots and kilts are also in their culture...Field Marshall Montgomery is consistently their best though...in the last 20 years it has been Field Marshall, Shotts and Dykehead, Canada's Simon Fraser Univeristy that have won all of the championships bar two..

"the notion that the "Irish Warpipes" were a distinct instrument from the Scottish Highland bagpipe is suspect. evidence is scarce, but there are reasons to believe that the old Irish and Scottish pipes were the same instrument. For one thing, Scottish and Irish culture were not isolated, and artistic trends could be copied and shared. In 1785, John MacPherson played “Piobrachd Ereanach an Irish pibrach”, some of this “typically Scottish” piping music comes from Ireland"
