I see you use the charcoal pan under the grate. Is that just to help clean up, or does it even out or lower the heat?

I honestly only use it for easy clean up. I don't notice any issue or changes in temperatures with it.

Wher did you get the firebox wood rack? Does it make a difference?

Yes it makes a difference, the wood burns cleaner. I had it custom made to fit my smoker by a freind of mine at a local sheet metal shop. Thanks for the question.
