Community excavation on Lismore has identified an Early Christian monastic site which includes an enclosed cemetery, one oval stone building and evidence for a specialised craft workshop area in which fine pieces of jewellery and other intricately decorated objects were made, antler was worked, leather was embossed and stone was carved.
Dr Clare Ellis runs Argyll Archaeology, a commercial archaeology business- 20 years of digging mainly in Argyll - 5 seasons running the excavations on Lismore, committed to getting Lismore written up and published - funded by Society of Antiquaries to run the dig on Lismore on a number of occasions.
Dr Gemma Cruickshank is an artefact specialist and manages the post-excavation service at National Museums Scotland. She has a particular interest in the evidence for later prehistoric and early medieval metalworking and other crafts.

Wonderful - castle Coffin seems under represented archaeologically speaking but was likely contemporaneous - I lived on Lisemore in my teenage summers 60 years ago and the castle and Salen were my go to places….my hair stood on end literally the first time I went there….the famous Carmichael Sisters ( Carmina Gaedelica) explained some reasons why that might have happened…apparently I was not the first… Anyway this was fascinating- I have hungry for this work all my life-I recently I learnt that Columba’s diplomatic/political role was very partisan indeed and he was not a unifier of Scottish clans at all. I assume Moluag was not an alternative but was on Columba’s team. Is it known where he came from in Ireland? I expect you know Moluags ‘church’ still exists on the Black Isle

The "unassuming" piece of bone may be a tuning peg of a harp.

Great suggestion, Stephen. Is there anything in particular that makes you think that?
