Since I used to live in Ireland and love st. patrick's, I'm going to go to a German pub masquerading as an Irish pub, drink Scottish whiskey, wearing my green st. Patrick's day shirt bought from Polnd via an American online shop while listening to a Canadian Irish folk band. is there anything more Irish than that?

The first St Patrick's Day parade was in Florida in 1600, and it was organised by protestants. The first parade on Ireland was in 1903. St Patrick is also the patron saint of Nigeria and Montserrat. Nigeria also has the first Guinness brewery outside of the British isles, and it was built in 1962. Montserrat has a history of (not necessarily willing) Irish immigrants, and there are a few videos on KZfaq of people there discussing their Irish roots.

@@somehistorystuff4859 Oh it was a fair few years before that. They found a gravestone from about 200AD of a woman called Regina who was a former slave freed by a man called Barates, who came from Palmyra in Syria. This proved Syrians of the day were in Britain during the roman period and not long after there came this idea that St George was from Syria. All packaged in BBC Anti English nationalism/racism/football hooligan kind of way.
