At its best, this show had better acting than any 90s sci-fi action TV series had any business having. It's easy to praise Patrick Stewart, but Michael Dorn's acting was just as excellent.
@hughlion1817 Жыл бұрын
The entire cast were not only quite talented but the inter-personal chemistry they were able to portray over the course the show was a wonder unto itself. There's no doubt everyone *and* everything was about as good as any show could ever get. cast writers and crew; the whole lot. Even the nitpicks are interesting, like the addressed-once-and-never-expounded-upon warp pollution episode which was such an intriguing way to shoehorn an environmentally conscious message into the show. I think they actually approached it rather respectfully. Now granted, here the real world the link between our obvious environmental impact and any potential rapid onset climate apocalypse is currently only agreed upon or completely dismissed by a sea of various partison political activist groups hawking fallacious arguments and deflecting attempts at clarification, HOWEVER, even if it's true our current emissions didn't significantly impact the environment that doesn't mean that the current smog and air pollution isnt a condition worth trying to improve right now! And I feel like that TNG episode presented this topic in a way that highlights how these issues can be explored in not only an entertaining way but a genuinely thought provoking manner that looks beyond simple political framing and addresses the mystery and encourages humility in the face of that uncertainty. And we never got another episode on it!!!! ScreamingInternally.gif

imho the single most important scene in all of Star Trek. The incredible soundtrack of this episode itself replaced by the quiet whir, the simple yet oh-so-potent camera angle - Frakes was just the best - Worf's realization that even one as pragmatic and skeptical of others' true intentions as he could be so duped by zeal, and most of all, Picard's unequaled statement... even more indelible on me than Sisko's observation at the end of "In The Pale Moonlight". It is a dire warning to us all in these troubled times, filled with Admiral Satie-villains and less-than-perfect but still-innocent and harmless crew member Tarsis-lambs and scapegoats. I believe this episode should be required viewing for all politicians and generals, with refreshers every so often.

"The last western nation to end slavery, Brazil, did so in 1888. And the first totalitarian dictatorship arose in Russia in 1917. There was barely one generation between the suppression of one form of monumentally brutal subjugation of human-beings and the creation of another. Yet these dehumanizing dictatorships were often founded on stirring rhetoric and lofty visions that resonated with many leading intellectuals in countries around the world. There could hardly be a clearer example of the need for the historic warning: eternal vigilance is the price of liberty." - Dr. Thomas Sowell - Discrimination and disparities.

There are two types of Star Trek episodes, well more like ten, but only two at the core. There's episodes revolving around the fictional universe of Star Trek, such as spacial phenomena and episodes that deal with it's many alien races. The other type is episodes that use the fictional universe of Star Trek to provide social commentary on the real world. I personally prefer the former and think that the latter is very hit and miss. This episode is definitely a hit!
