Wow people are harsh. He said the the method of barbell presses isnt what he liked. I think ppl missed the point of the video though, which was to create better mobility of the shoulders with his knowledge and techniques. It was a very great and informative video.

Mike challenges status quo. Period. Great thinkers like him, Cook, Gray, etc has evolved their thinking for the better, and boldly opposed bs for a long time now. How refreshing! And as a younger Movement Coach, it’s an honor to take these truths and apply them to both my clients, as well myself🙏

Great advice...I wish planet fitness had kettle bells, but for $10/mth I adapt and use dumbbells...just an observation about the rotation of your arm during the lift...Schwarzenegger was credited with coming up with that move back in the day (Though he started with palms pointing at the body and did a full 180...but I do feel they are more structurally sound the way Mike suggests, with the palms facing each other)...anywho, they are still referred to as Arnolds in the body building community.

but when he press up he is internaly rotating the shoulder not externaly....rotating externaly is ending the press with the thumb pointing out and palm facing backwards and he is doing the opposite

mike, you are great, but one thing. at the first extercise: for me it is an internal rotation. put your arm overhead and IR / ER and you will see that he actually internally rotates

If overhead press with a bar is 'bad' (I'm not disagreeing), then all of the machines with bars should be bad too (and maybe for more reasons than the free-weight bar has)?
@jarretbeck1633
@jarretbeck1633 2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure how Mike would continue getting his athletes stronger with only dumbbells or kettlebells. Barbell presses can be loaded and progressed for a long time thus increasing upper body strength. A stronger athlete is a better athlete. Also, an incline bench press is not "specific" to any sport in that when, in any sport, do you push on your opponent with your back against a fixed object?

+Barry Lovelace I didn't give it a thumbs down but the idea that athletes should not do an overhead press is incorrect. And most of us who train hard follow Mark Rippetoe.

Yes we all have our ways of training 😆. Can you explain to me why they should? Always love hearing from both sides, although i have always liked mike's thought process. Thanks!
@oceanspringsmartialarts939

Sure, there's a bunch of articles about the overhead press on Coach Rippetoe's website. I'm not clear on why we shouldn't be squatting either with a barbell and with a bunch of weight on it. Same way we should overhead press. I like anything that gets the masses moving since we have a lot of people overweight but for athletes training heavy is what we need to be doing. And perhaps for the masses who don't want to learn how to overhead press and squat correctly, this is fine.

+OceanSprings Martial Arts yeah, the comments for the his "don't two legged squat" video are disabled funny enough. If the low back is the weak link, then why does almost everyone deadlift more than they squat? especially novices. Nothing wrong with barbell pressing either, if done correctly.
@oceanspringsmartialarts939
@oceanspringsmartialarts939 8 жыл бұрын
+Mike Basic I saw the comments were disabled on the squat video. I'm guessing because any athlete that trains heavy is doing that to get strong (and would strongly disagree with not squatting with a barbell) and as Coach Rippetoe says, I don't know how the heck you can get stronger without putting more weight on the bar. And your question about deadlifts is spot on. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is why would any athlete lift weights to do anything other than to get strong? You can get your cardio from doing your sport - not lifting weights for sets or repetitions of 15 or 20 or whatever. I can tell anyone watching this video that the overhead press (if done correctly and IF done heavy) will protect your shoulders better than just about any type of exercise out there.

if you're looking to gain muscle mass, Strength, size, longevity and overall health than Mike Boyle is probably the last person you should be listening too. His trainers and himself look like they've never stepped in a gym in their entire life, and the majority of their clients are rich spoiled high school kids which fortunately for them Massachusetts has a high abundance of. . I actually feel bad for the ones that hire this guy or any of his scrawny employees. Good grief

Jonathan Zak I looked at Boyles website of "professional" athletes testimonials..lol..there weren't many. One of the first ones was by a guy by the name of Andrew berry Washington redskins.. the problem is he never even played for Washington or in the NFL. He had a try out. He also claimed Boyle decreased his bf% from 5.4 to 4.3 while also adding 9 pounds of muscle. Very few pro bodybuilders can even get below 5% so I call bullshit on that. I call a big bullshit.. the rest of the so called pro athletes on there all had a bunch of bs resumes just like the other guy I mentioned. 99% of his clients are spoiled high school kids with rich parents and in Massachusetts there are an endless supply of those. These training methods Are A joke.

@@collin355 ignore his website. The dude was the head s&c coach at Boston university and their men's hockey program for even longer. He was with the Boston Red Sox for a while, the Boston Bruins for a decade, the Olympic women's hockey team, multiple Olympic athletes, and developed the US Olympic National team development program. He's also a consultant for multiple NFL and MLB teams and started off training NFL prospects for the combine. One of the biggest athletes he trains in the off season is Christian McCaffrey. He has also contributed a lot to sports science research. That's a long list of accomplishments and I left our quite a bit. Then there is the fact that all these training methods which are supposedly a joke according to you have all been scientifically backed for years now.
@jugjivan
@jugjivan 2 жыл бұрын
@@collin355 you can stick with age old bro science religion or you can take the scientifically proven methods of training. There is a reason why top pro athletes and training programs follow certain methodology and why said methodology takes over among the masses a decade later. You can be ahead of the curve with proven science or you can play catch up later on.
