When we leave bed in the US ( Australians) I adopted a very gentle Pitt bull who we managed to bring back into Australia. Everyone agreed to pretend he wasn’t a pitt bull as he was so lovely. When I adopted him I realised I needed to know what I was doing. I watchedThe Dog g Whosperer. Cesar Milan. Thank goodness. Every three ng he said to do worked.

Hi Guy’s, I’m a lifelong owner of Staffys. I absolutely love them and my profile pic is my latest male whom is a Blue’ named ‘Bluey’ and he’s exactly three and half years old. We rescued him from Battersea Dogs Home in London in February 2019 when he was just eighteen months old. The history was he was very callously dumped in a park in North London in January 2019. I’ve always had Brindle coloured Staffys previously. The one thing that I noticed immediately when we got him was just how powerful he was compared to my previous Staffys? He’s the short legged and lean build type but extremely muscular and weighs in at around 22-23 kilos I’d imagine? The only behaviour issue that we’ve had with him since day one and we still have to this very day is the excitable behaviour when greeting myself, my partner or my young son as he still jumps up at us, but it’s far worse with strangers in the street or if people over to visit us at our home! We all absolutely love & adore ❤️ him to bits and he’s like my second son. I walk him once a day for a two miles walk so he’s well exercised and he has a very well balanced dry food diet. We would just love to know how to stop the jumping up at people as it’s embarrassing and due to his power he has knocked a few children over & a few elderly people also previously when he’s in an excitable state when people stop me in the street and ask me can they stroke him? I think to myself oh no so I do the common courtesy thing and warn them at what might happen? And it very often does happen unfortunately and I’m forever apologising because of his extremely excitable behaviour! He’s an absolutely beautiful & fantastically loyal family pet in every way except for this one thing only? Thanks so very much, Mickey Shone

It's so true about the staff being in the grey area of size which lets them get away with this. I've got a small blue staffy girl. She would never jump up at me but does to all my friends when she sees them or when they enter the house as she's always gotten away it with them as she's small. Saving grace is that she's is smart and never does this with kids. Super gentle around kids. The behaviour for her is directly connected with the excitement of seeing knew people or people she knows. Great vid again though

So happy to find this channel! We recently adopted a rescued 10-month old “lab mix” from another state’s high-euthanasia pound. After adoption, doggie DNA shows instead she is 75% American Staffie, 12.5% Border Collie, & 12.5% Husky. I live in a townhouse with a portion of unfenced yard so have been taking her to the dog park and long walks to try to get her exercised but she does jump on us and also try to herd us sometimes by trying to nip gently at our feet. She seems extremely intelligent and picked up some basic commands right away but just gets carried away with exuberance at times. So glad to have found this channel as she’s family now 🙂

Thanks for the information. Wish I knew about your material before paying 400 quid to a behaviourist who didn't even dent my staff's jumping issue. She was 2 then and 3 years later the problem is worse than ever. I'm going to have a really good crack at this now using the technique you described. She's a rescue staffy cross presumed whippet but i think she's more half kangaroo! I'll keep you posted.

@@willathertonstaffyshow6068 we've only had 2 visitors since trying this technique but I can say that it is having a positive effect. The habit is that embedded that I do have to keep her on a slip lead for the majority of the visit for physical correction before trying just verbal commands. Keeping it calm and consistent as you say has improved my relationship with the dog and I've noticed little improvements in other areas too. So the progress is marginal but I imagine over time this will build up. The other area I need to tackle though is that initial rush to the door when people enter the house as we have baby gates at the moment which isn't ideal. I appreciate you following up on our progress - thank you! :)

My staffy is 14 months old he does really well at training classes when he’s given a task to do, however, he doesn’t seem to know how to “switch off” and settle down when it’s his turn to watch, he’ll start biting his lead, jumping and pulling…or when he’s at home he’s always on the go which is tiring and frustrating for us. Do you have any advice?

Cheers for the vid mate - i have a blue half American, half english staffy who is almost 7 month. I am consistent and i am firm but he will NOT stop running up to and greeting people this way. It’s sending me over the edge, how do you do this if he get’s tunnel vision and how do you advise strangers to not encourage it? They all say ‘Oh no, it’s ok’ as i insist that no, it isn’t. Getting to the stage i feel where i might have to leash him constantly, which is no fun for either party.

i have this problem but the thing is in her first 8-9months, i lived alone with her and she didn't jump on me, sometimes on friends but just once and that was it, it wasn't that bad or anything. but then i had to move back to my mom and in the first months my dog jumped on her & my mom starting greeting and cuddling her so she reinforced it there and since then it got so much worse that she now jumps on everyone of my friends, a lot more than once, and sometimes even when i walk by someone, she just jumps on or at them (when i pull her back) & she doesn't show any warning signs and her body language doesn't show it as well. she doesn't do it much, it's like once every 3-4 days and i don't know why she does that. i can't even train that with her cuz she just doesn't jump on me, we got other ways of greeting each other and she respects me. but with friends & my mom she's sooo excited that she just can't control herself and i don't know how i should do that, i tried so much already and it just doesn't work & with strangers it's just so weird cuz like i said it does doesn't happen everyday and it's not if someone passes by her close cuz many people do that and she does nothing. & then on one day she suddenly jumps on someone and i just don't know why she does that

1 yr ago I was looking for a PIT Bull but I wanted a young one that I could work with because my 5yr old Catahoula leopard needed a friend to play with because my 9yr PLOTT was getting to old.So I found a Red nose pit bull at a Rescue he was 1yro.Very play full you couldn't ask for a better one.So I did a DNA and they said he was 80% Staffordshire but he does have the habit of Jumping on me every time I leave and come back then I started to notice he was doing this to everybody he met and I was always telling him DOWN and sometimes he would sit and soon as I moved he would jump again.and last yr. he bit my neighbor 3 or 4 times as my wife let my neighbor in the house but I was in another room and heard screaming and I came out I called for Thor to come and he did but I still have not found out WHY? this happened. But I just wanted to give a little info on Thor he will be 3 yrs this March I will never give up my THOR and he will never see another shelter either and I will work with him.But yesterday I just happened to come across your video on Staffy's and ended up subscribing to it. Is there a certain type of leash I should use for him? He is about 80# Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated....

(So they say) everybody says oh it’s OK but it’s not OK and I have told them it’s not OK so I got the problem. He doesn’t jump up on me, but he jumps up on others. Also why do Staffy’s lick ? he is a constant horrible licker. He licks anything and everything.
