What's funny is I actually had that experience with a friend. He got our shift (firemen) of guys (8) to help move. We all showed up and nothing was packed. He was eating breakfast with family. Guys were not happy. What was really funny was his wife knew nothing about us coming. In 3 hours, we got all the furniture loaded into several pick ups and one van. Took to new house and placed in rooms. Wife gave us money for beer and wings at Hooters. Only stipulation was her husband wasn't going. He had to stay back and help her finish up the next 3 days. We offered to come back after things were packed. She said nope, he needs to learn his lesson. We never let him hear the end of that.

Sadly, this might be normal in most English speaking countries. I'm from Canada. We were supposed to load up a moving truck in the morning in about 2 hours, and we were packed up quite a bit, but we had so much clutter to work on still. We ended up finishing packing after about 12 hours. It was a weird situation, too, because both owners bought each other's home, and the new owners were already tearing up old carpet and eating pizza for supper while we were still packing. It felt like such a nightmare.

It makes you think twice about buying some ridiculous thing. You don't want to have to work your whole life because you're broke from all the stupid little chochkies you bought all your life. I know people with houses FULL of the things...those dusty little things that cost $1 to make, but YOU paid $20 for. Hint:. Your family WON'T treasure them as you do .. they'll be in a dump within a month of you going to your reward...also you apparently CAN'T take those things with you either.

Growing up this way is what made me into the start packing a month before person that I am. Last moving day came and the professional movers were even impressed...everything was at the new place in 45minutes...only 15 minutes for them to load up the truck! I am also a master unpacker and have the entire place together (sans things that need buying) by that evening. I always make sure I have wifi and furniture that I know I want arriving and in place 2 hours after I've moved everything to the new house. I had all the praise from my friends in the last move. It's how I deal with the trauma of my parents coming upstairs on moving day and saying "throw your clothes in plastic bags...throw everything into plastic bags!" and then living out of boxes and bags and air mattresses for weeks.

One of my more recent moves my roommate and I were headed to different living places. I spent three weeks weeding out things I didn't need (filled two Bagsters!), packing boxes, disassembling furniture, donating things to the Salvation Army (five trips with my car), and cleaning. - My roommate waited until two days before she moved to fill a handful of boxes and put the rest in trash bags for her move. She was not done when her truck rental was scheduled and had WAY too much stuff to fit in her storage unit, since it was mostly full already, leaving the rest to overfill her new living space.

If you own a truck, you are legally obligated to help at least one person move something every year. And they always promise to pay for gas, but it never happens. 😔
@chrish4439
@chrish4439 Жыл бұрын
This is only true in your 20's. Once you hit 30 you only have to offer to drive your truck and aren't obligated to move anything. Also if my friends ever didn't pay gas and provide pizza and beer then the truck wouldn't leave their driveway lmao

Not anymore. I offer them a $50 contribution toward them hiring movers. Then I hide my truck keys. When it was my truck I was stuck there all day while other friends flit in for 2 hours then leave. And I always pulled a muscle moving heavy furniture with someone who was weak and uncoordinated.

You need better friends. I've helped a few people move, but they've rewarded me well. Then again, my truck looks like it went through a war zone, so they know they'd better take care of me or their stuff is toast! X3

Yep pretty much the same here in Germany. I like to help with movings, but make sure to provide some decent food, snacks right from the start and some warm meal at the end. And make fucking sure everything is packed, cannot stand when the guys that are moving don't carry a single box cause they're still busy filling these. And last but not least, return the pleasure on day.
