I use one for jazz and soul, and I gotta admit it plays and sounds fine, there is no electric upright that can compare with a double bass on tone in my opinion, but these stagg upright basses are pretty damn good ( cost 1 10th of a double) and through a Markbass rig the overall sound is really good.

I totally agree with you still in the year of 2022:) I think the length of the strings matter for upright sound; the sound of stagg edb is way closer to acoustic upright than more expensive shorter scale electric upright. Thanks!

It actually sounds like an acoustic. If I didn't see it and just heard it playing, I would think it was an acoustic. Very good sound quality. I have been wanting to get into upright and I wanted something to travel with and I came across this video and I think I know what I will be going with.

I played one of these at the weekend. Never played a DB before, though did used to play cello, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was easy enough to play straight from a fretted bass guitar and I got some lovely tones out of it. Only trouble is I SO want to get one now.

I really appreciate the thoroughness of this review, and your enthusiasm for the instrument. I have a various assortment of 5 electric basses (Rickenbacker, Fenders, Ibanez), and really want to venture into something upright. Your review makes me think this could be a very reasonable and quality place to start. Thank you, much!

Thanks for posting this demo. I purchased this EUB a month or so ago, and I've got no major complaints. I'm happy with the tone, portability, and playability of this instrument. I do agree that the fret position markers on my EUB were off-pitch as well. No biggie, I ended up covering them up with electrical tape and kept things moving. Besides, playing in tune on a fretless instrument should be done by ear and feel rather than by sight IMO. I really don't understand all this anti-EUB rhetoric from purist/traditionalist camp of bass playing. EUBs are just tools for making music. The Hammond B-3 didn't replace the pipe church in church music, yet its contribution to music is highly notable. Now let's all stop arguing plaids and stripes, and go practice...
