The sound of the Stagg EDB as well as a few other things. The Stagg EDB 3/4 is well worth the money & plays nicely. It has lots of tone variation also clarity, it sounds very much like an upright bass amped up. The electronics are extremely quiet, perfect for recording purposes.

When I got my Stagg EDB I had pain in my arms and shoulders after playing for only a few minutes. At first I thought it was because I was a novice, which I was. But after watching and studying videos lessons of several different upright players(and actually playing a couple of upright basses) I realized that because I was having to use my hands, arms, and shoulders to balance and hold the EDB steady, I was getting fatigued quicker. Traditional upright bass technique involves leveraging the mass of the instrument's body against the player's body so that the hands, arms, and shoulders are more free to execute; something you can't really do with a stick EDB, even with the stomach rest. My workaround was to purchase a upright bass stand and I rest the EDB on it while playing. Its helped tremendously in stabilizing the EDB while standing or sitting. Now my hands, arms, and shoulders have more freedom to focus on technique instead of trying to hold the EDB steady, and I'm not nearly as fatigued as before. Just my two cents.

Hi Daniel thanks for your response. I hope that you enjoy the bass as much as I do. It takes a little getting used to & it is far more physical to play than the electric bass but more rewarding I feel. Your shoulders and arms will tire quickly at the start but then they will get used to playing in that position after awhile. I feel it's a great upright for the money & I hope you find so too. Please let me know how you get on with it, it's a beautiful looking instrument. Try & get the stand if you can afford it, again it's well worth it. Bless

I bought this Stagg EDB in 2015. After trying to play with it a few days, so much shoulder, left wrist pain, that i parked it for a year before I touched it again. I am a 5 string electric bassist in a few local bands, blues, rock, country etc. I may attribute that initial pain first few days to a new playing position and not taking lessons for a DB, as many should. I bought that same stand for this bass and found I can play it much easier while it's on the stand. So I now gig this EDB in one band using the large stand so that I don't have to hold the weight of the bass with my lefthand as before. I couldn't get used to those little plastic coated bars that you install on each side of this bass to simulate a upright. Much happier and able to use it now on the stand and I am getting so much better and compliments on my playing of this Stagg bass. Cheers.

Hi Ernest, I'm pleased that you found another way of being able to play this instrument without causing yourself any more pain, clever thinking. It's probably like playing an NS Design NXT 4 upright bass. I played my Stagg EDB in a blues jam session with a decent bass amp & it sounded incredible! The other musicians kept commenting on how great it sounded & looked. I'm sure that if you were to strip back it's beautiful paint work there would probably be a few frowns, but the electronics sound great & for the most of it, it seems like a very. solid build. I bet that you look cool alongside the other musicians, you must constantly draw attention. Thanks for your message & I wish you all the best also keep enjoying playing. if I start getting pains from the instrument I now know what to do. B-) Bless

Great review and playing. Thanks for this. I play a Kay upright but, at 67, I don't know how much longer I can lug the thing around. Play in several geezer groups so loading and unloading several times a week. This sounds really good. I thought I'd have to look at an EUB costing $1500 to get even close to an upright sound. But this is quite doable I think and you seem to agree.

Hi Frank Thank you for your kind words. I don't know about my playing, as I messed up big time, but I'm not too worried. Maybe you could give me lessons. I really do feel that it's worth the money, you ought to look for one in a music store & give it ago, it's the only way to make a good sound choice. Let me know if you try/buy one, or something else. Keep playing Frank. Bless

Hi Maximus, Yes the bass is definitely good for studio use, mine is ultra quiet using the amp jack, but the headphone jack has a fair amount of hiss. The electronics are very good also very varied tones, I find that it sounds very nice. I have never used the amp you have so I can't comment. I hope that you enjoy the bass. I wish you a very happy & safe Christmas.

Hi , please help I'm not sure what this knob/strap attachment , thing is for ? Where the back of the neck joins the body there is a silver knob/thing ? On a electric bass guitar it's where you'd attach your strap. Please can anybody inform me it's use... Cheers. Gavin.
@garywillacey9979
@garywillacey9979 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gavin The strap knob is of no use, it isn't needed, I removed mine immediately & found I never needed it. It's a stupid feature like the extra triangle bit that screws into the side to replicate the shoulder of a double bass, makes it look ugly, also it's an advantage of these basses to have easy access to the lower fretboard, why would you want to put something unnecessary in the way? The metal frame which is attached to the side of this bass & rests on your side/stomach works well I always use that. Bless

Hi Louis Sorry that I've not been keeping up with KZfaq, but thanks for the message. If you are saying that the sound on my video is low, that may be down to my camera's mic. You would be best to use a pair of decent headphones or pc speakers, don't rely on laptop or phone speakers, you won't hear any of the bass tones. I haven't noticed the sound being that bad that the bass cannot be heard, only on devices with tiny speakers. Regards.

Alright .. crazy question. . Could this be held horizontal like a traditional bass?
@garywillacey9979
@garywillacey9979 2 жыл бұрын
Yep, that's a crazy question. No it can't be held horizontal like a guitar, not comfortably & easily, it's long & awkward. I have a question. Why would you want to play this horizontal? If that be the case, why not buy a bass guitar instead? There's lots of weird & wonderful shaped bass guitars that may suit you better if you want horizontal position. Bless

@garywillacey9979
@garywillacey9979 2 жыл бұрын
No, you don't need to remove the battery. As long as the guitar cable is removed when not in use, the circuit will be off. I've never had a battery drained with mine when not in use, provided the guitar cable was removed, I found that the battery life was substantial. An on/off switch would be nice, but not necessary.

Ha! :) Alfredo; such a hateful person. I hope that you can find peace in your life at some point. It's only a bass; no need to be so bitter. I never claimed to be anything more than I am. The Bass is all I want people to know about. I'm sure that you are an amazing player, just do what you do & i will do what I do....Very badly. Some may find it useful, others will not. The Bass is for anyone who wishes to learn, whether they play perfectly or not. You should try to encourage people to learn & correctly with Constructive Criticism. I'll keep up my work, sorry you won't like it, so you may as well stop watching, Mr Angry. :) Bless you Alfredo

@@garywillacey9979 Alfredo is a very good player but he is a bitter jazz snob,too. I do not think you are a bad player and there is no reason for excuses on your side and mentioning that you are just a hobby bass player. At least Alfredo is no loud mouth and can back up his statements with some very good videos. Few people on youtube can usually do this. There is always somebody who is better or not as good.But it gives Alfredo no right to put others down that way. Especiially solid players like you. I realized that you never uploaded any other bass video. I am sorry that Alfredo's aggressive comments stopped you uploading some other bass videos. I would have been interested to watch them. This bass is absolute garbage. It has no tone whatsoever, just loud. The support brackets are weak and wobbly and does not do the job for which they were intended. I bought the bass during the pandemic Aug. of 2020. I sold it by November. Luckily, I got what I paid for it. It sounds like a cheap fretless bass guitar. Don't buy it. (Also, the endpin rattles on the inside of the bass while you're playing, and the rattling gets picked up by the pickups).
