Yes, we know that “live” can actually be altered and that there’s a lot of “magic” nowadays that singers can use to sound better. But this precisely is why singers in the Philippines are so good. First of all, they didn’t just get recruited off the street for their looks and made into a pop star. Usually singers in the Philippines would start off singing live in local events or fiestas, or in family gatherings. Then, they would probably join competitions in their small towns. None of these places would have the technology you were referring to. Then, they would try to make it in Manila among thousands just like them and be signed by a label. All the while they keep singing and singing. Then, on interviews, I know overseas they don’t randomly ask singers to sing, but as you saw, that’s normal in the Philippines. If the singer is dependent on studio effects, they’ll get found out almost immediately and they won’t make it past the first album.

I'm glad you reacted to it, I had the same lingering doubts. Those doubts used to be relatively small since the Philippines have a surplus of "once in a generation" voices that have to stay competitive. I think they need to change the metric "once in a generation" is no longer applicable. Meanwhile in the US, Billie Eilish is arguably the biggest mainstream vocalist in terms of Billboard charts, Radio. She can't get a B4 live...she got mainstream vocal success without any mastery of her voice which should have been a prerequisite.

Is it necessary to be able to sing the key correctly to say one has perfect pitch? I thought it wasn't and that it was more about the hearing part (as your ears and your voice box are different parts). Because I have a friend and she has perfect pitch and she's a pianist... but she can't really sing that well hehe so she doesn't really like singing because when she gets something wrong she knows it all the more.

I don't want to name names but there is one vocalist that mimes songs 9 out of 10 times. Reactors both coaches and not are doing more harm than good by praising that person out of fear the fanatics will steam roll their careers. The fans treat that person like a god they worship. They all know that person is lip-synching almost instantly with their facial expressions. Stating this because I agree 100% my lingering doubts are gone.
