Staining Lino to See Your Carving More Easily

2 жыл бұрынIt can be hard to see where your carved marks are on a piece of lino. Staining the lino is a good option to make cut marks more visible. There are a few ways to do this - this is easy one method you can try.

Hi Holly, Great Tip on the staining . Would I be able to use drawing inks to stain the lino blocks or is acrylic paint better?

Hi Holly, thanks for another great tip. Will the acrylic stain work for oil based inks and inks like Caligo Safe Wash. I can imagine that the oil based won't have a problem with the acrylic transferring during the printing process but just wanted to check about the Safe Wash as well. Logically, it makes sense that the acrylic "stain" won't transfer but have you tested it please? Otherwise, I'll do so myself (just being lazy really and checking whether you've done it already!!).

Hello Simone, yes, I have tested this and it works well with Caligo Safe Wash Inks. You're right, as it's a stain it shouldn't affect transfer. I would recommend giving the block a bit of a clean before inking up if you're worried about it.
