July 8, 2024 Calgary Stampede Grandstand Show (excerpt)
The best new component in this year’s show was a choreographed multi drone light show. While a few fireworks erupted, multiple points of light began to drift slowly heavenward like fireflies. This video begins about 30 seconds in, when the lights formed their first image in the sky. The Stampede website describes it as “mind-bending displays of state-of-the-art technology including a drone light show and Boston Dynamics dancing robots…a never-before-seen sensory experience.”
The preprogrammed drone lights morph from one formation to another (words, images, symbols), each light changes colour as needed to complete the new image. Simultaneously, on stage, Boston Dynamics’ robot dogs are “cutting loose and showing off some dance moves.”
