In today's video I am going to working on my Stamperia Alice In Wonderland Junk Journal or interactive book. What I am doing today is showing how easy it is to make the hinges for my Alice In Wonderland Junk Journal. If you want to make your own journal, or just want to see how the hinges are made, this is the video for you! I will walk you through the entire process, from scoring the cardstock to finished junk journal hinge. This is so easy you can make your own journals!
DIRECTIONS FOR MAKING THE HINGE:
You want to cut your cardstock 1/8 less in height than the size of your book pages. My book pages are 8 inches tall. So, I cut my cardstock at 7 7/8 of an inch tall.
I like 2 inches on the inside of my book before and after my pages. I also put 3/8 of an inch between my pages in my book and the front and back cover.
So, if these are your measurements you want to use then cut a piece of cardstock at 7 7/8 inches tall by 12 inches wide. Next, score at 2 inches then count over 3 to give you 3/8 of an inch. Next count over 4 to give you your first 1/2 inch and then count over 4 more to give you your second 1/2 inch. Then count over 3 to get your 3/8 between pages and continue until you have as many pages as needed. I have a total of 4 pages in my book. When you are finished scoring your pages cut off excess at side of cardstock.
To apply the score tape: flip cardstock over to bumpy side and take 3/8 inch sore tape and put a piece in the 1st of the 1/2 inch spaces. Next, flip the cardstock over and put 1/4 inch score tape in each of the 1/2 inch spaces close to the scoreline but not on it. This is what is going to hold the pages inside the book. Now, flip cardstock over and put 1/4 inch score tape in the 3/8 inch spaces between the pages. Now, you will also need to cover the rest of the area with score tape or score sheets and burnish down well. Refer to video for how to fold to make the hinge this would be of more benefit to you.
